OTTAWA, Feb 20 (Reuters) - Just because you're the daughter of Bill Gates does not mean you get to play on your computer all day long.

The Microsoft founder said his 10-year-old daughter, his oldest child, was not a hard-core Internet and computer user until this year, when she started at a school where the students use tablet computers for almost everything.

"She became very avid and discovered a lot of computer games, including one that runs on the Xbox 360 called Viva Pinata, where you take care of your garden," he told a business audience in Ottawa.

"She could spend two or three hours a day on this Viva Pinata, because it's kind of engaging and fun."

Gates said he and his wife Melinda decided to set a limit of 45 minutes a day of total screen time for games and an hour a day on weekends, plus what time she needs for homework.

Kids may think it is wrong for parents to restrict screen time, obviously. But entertainment units will cut into a young persons social life and that is a big no-no when you are maturing. There's plenty of time to spend with yourself when you're and adult.

So let me get this straight he is the world biggest nerd and he doesnt even let his daughter to play with his own game platform products of his company .

So you make bussines with game makers, you throw vista Dx10 and Xbox360 and he thinks that his own daughter should play 45 minutes .

it makes you think at least.

Now you be quiet... let me have my delusions. :(

i am fricken glad he aint my dad.

my dad is a dumb@$$ wen i comes to technology. he once seized my computer from me so he could remove all my non school related applications, he then asked me how to empty the trash

I know I've heard claims like this before. I honestly don't know if I believe it. I just don't see a strict set of rules that he would constantly be willing to control.

Well, he said it himself. I don't believe Reuters would report unsubstantiated gossip.
