V3RT1G0
i have tried installing mac a bunch of times... ive done 3 distros... and different brands of DVD's... and i kno that my DVD drive is functional... this computer is less than a year old and the drive has functioned for windows and linux installs... never failed on me yet. And ive seen in the wiki that a CPU the same as mine has done this so im sure i can too... im on a Dell E310/3100 Dimension NOTE: ive burned at x16,x4,and x1! so back on topic i have used 3 distros: -Mac OS X 10.4.6 x86 Install DVD (JaS) -MyZ -HotISO i have tried all those and still no success... the only error i get is an error during installation when its running the "script" itll tell me: "There was an error during installation, Try Again" and it gives me a restart option... thats the farthest ive gone! so my question is what options should i enable in the JaS distro as its the most popular around here...??? thanks people here are my PC Specs along with CPUID and etc. EVEREST CPUID: AND SPECS IN TEXT: --------[ EVEREST Ultimate Edition 2006 (c) 2003-2007 Lavalys, Inc. ]--------------------------------------------------- Version EVEREST v3.50.865 Beta Benchmark Module 2.1.169.0 Homepage http://www.lavalys.com/ Report Type Report Wizard Computer JOSHS_COMP Generator Josh Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 5.1.2600 (WinXP Retail) Date 2007-01-31 Time 15:24 --------[ Summary ]----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Computer: Computer Type ACPI Multiprocessor PC Operating System Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition OS Service Pack Service Pack 2 Internet Explorer 7.0.5730.11 (IE 7.0) DirectX 4.09.00.0904 (DirectX 9.0c) Computer Name JOSHS_COMP User Name Josh Logon Domain JOSHS_COMP Date / Time 2007-01-31 / 15:23 Motherboard: CPU Type Intel Pentium 4 521, 2800 MHz (14 x 200) Motherboard Name Dell Dimension 3100/E310 Motherboard Chipset Intel Grantsdale-G i915GV System Memory 502 MB BIOS Type Phoenix (04/04/06) Display: Video Adapter Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family (128 MB) 3D Accelerator Intel GMA 900 Monitor Dell E773c [17" CRT] (6418059D021B) Monitor Dell E773c [17" CRT] (6418059D021B) Multimedia: Audio Adapter SigmaTel STAC9200 @ Intel 82801FB ICH6 - High Definition Audio Controller [B-2] Storage: IDE Controller Intel(R) 82801FB Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 2652 IDE Controller Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM Ultra ATA Storage Controllers - 266F Disk Drive WDC WD800JD-75MSA1 (74 GB, IDE) Optical Drive PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8701 (DVD+R9:8x, DVD+RW:16x/8x, DVD-RW:16x/6x, DVD-ROM:16x, CD:48x/32x/48x DVD+RW/DVD-RW) SMART Hard Disks Status OK Partitions: C: (NTFS) 60934 MB (4803 MB free) Total Size 60934 MB (4803 MB free) Input: Keyboard HID Keyboard Device Mouse HID-compliant mouse Network: Primary IP Address 192.168.1.100 Primary MAC Address 00-14-A5-58-D0-D8 Network Adapter Dell Wireless 1450 Dual-band (802.11a/b/g) USB2.0 Adapter (192.168.1.100) Network Adapter Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection Modem Conexant D850 56K V.9x DFVc Modem Peripherals: USB1 Controller Intel 82801FB ICH6 - USB Universal Host Controller [B-2] USB1 Controller Intel 82801FB ICH6 - USB Universal Host Controller [B-2] USB1 Controller Intel 82801FB ICH6 - USB Universal Host Controller [B-2] USB1 Controller Intel 82801FB ICH6 - USB Universal Host Controller [B-2] USB2 Controller Intel 82801FB ICH6 - Enhanced USB2 Controller [B-2] USB Device Dell Wireless 1450 Dual-band (802.11a/b/g) USB2.0 Adapter #3 USB Device USB Human Interface Device USB Device USB Human Interface Device DMI: DMI BIOS Vendor Dell Inc. djrobsd
I'm pretty sure that OSX won't work with your CPU, you need to have the new Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processor in order to load OSX.... But who knows. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40670-i-cant-ever-install/#findComment-290788 Share on other sites
V3RT1G0
who told you that buddy? OSX86 has been out before core 2 line of processors came out lol... trust i kno that OSX can run on my CPU... if you would read the post carefully i said why thanks for the reply though Edited February 1, 2007 by V3RT1G0 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40670-i-cant-ever-install/#findComment-290807 Share on other sites
djrobsd
Well, I thought the whole reason they were finally able to run Mac OS on a PC was because of the new Intel Core Duo/Core 2 Duo processors, I had no idea they got it to work before those processors came out. PC user for 20 years, this is all new to me. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40670-i-cant-ever-install/#findComment-290828 Share on other sites
eLMafUDd
It should work on any proccesor that has SSE2 or higher. I can't help you with your problem though. dvornik
It should work. What options are you selecting during customization? Try selecting just the Intel patch and nothing else. tomtefar
We need this info: *) How far in the installation do you get (not many people no where such an error might pop up), i.e. what steps have you been through already? *) If you got as far as selecting install packages, which ones did you select?? OsXsO
did u disable ht in bios.. friend was not able to install with ht activated in bios try another dvd brand.. u have to enable all the intel patchs and the gma 900 patch.. but i think if u select the wrong patches then u could end with a successfull installation but u will have a kernel panic after reboot. i think your problem is the rolling or the dvd rom. if u are not able to install the native way try with vmware.. good luck Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40670-i-cant-ever-install/#findComment-291155 Share on other sites
ccihon
I have the same problem on a dell 4700. I have a working 10.4.3 system, but when upgrading to 10.4.8 I get stopped with that same "try installing again" deal. Let me know what you find. I have a P4 530, and am installing to a PATA drive, though the machine has SATA. 10.4.3 works fine....well enough to make me leave it alone. But it's been easy to try an upgrade as I have a Ghost backup of my 10.4.3 install. BTW, tried the Jas "SSE2 SSE3 Intel AMD" and also the one with the new Diskutil fix....though as I'm upgrading, i don't need diskutilities on the DVD. V3RT1G0
thanks for the replies... the Disk reads fine... i hav tried many brands... and the things i select in customization are Intel Patch, (tried both) SSE2, and SSE3 and the GMA900 Patch... thats all and still no go... and i will try diabling HT but id rather have it but for mac ill do it lol Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40670-i-cant-ever-install/#findComment-291373 Share on other sites
ccihon
OK...I haven't had time to try this, but some research I've done on GMA900 video suggests this error is generated as JaS package GMA900 is installed. We may be able to install without that patch and apply one of the other patches once install is complete. There is a big thread around here somewhere on Intel GMA900 and 10.4.8 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40670-i-cant-ever-install/#findComment-292098 Share on other sites

ccihon
Let me know what you find about the HT...I tried installing without GMA900 support, and same thing, so the theory from the previous post I made doesn't fly. BTW - I'm running 10.4.3 and it installs and works fine....I'm considering a new video card. so would like a later version that can do Nvidia. I've looked around here and found few references to "try installing again" - I'm not even sure now which package install is generating this error. Seems to come near the end of installation with the custom stuff? chevy2410
You might want to try, if you haven't already, putting the DVD drive as the master and the PATA drive as the slave on the same chain. I could never install OSX untill I did that. Good luck, Chevy Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40670-i-cant-ever-install/#findComment-296790 Share on other sites

scguy318
You change master/slave via jumpers on DVD/hard drive and connect appropriately on the cable. DiaboliK
V3RT1G0: start with a newer iso: find the JaS AMD/Intel SSe2/SSe3 DVD v2 in the green demon and start from there once you got that. make a partition (anyway you feel like doing it), make it FAT32 formatted. now once that is done. pop in your newely burnt disk as stated from above. and once you get to the installer, click on utilities> disk utility find your newly partitoned and FAT32 Formatted partition and select it then click on the erase Tab. Name your Partition to whatever you want. now select the format (choose mac oc exteneded, journaled or not doesent matter) click erase. give it a sec til it done then exit disk utility and then start installing. *note* ALWAYS start with a bare/zeroed out disk/partition if possible to save yourself headaches.
