i have tried installing mac a bunch of times... ive done 3 distros... and different brands of DVD's... and i kno that my DVD drive is functional... this computer is less than a year old and the drive has functioned for windows and linux installs... never failed on me yet. And ive seen in the wiki that a CPU the same as mine has done this so im sure i can too... im on a Dell E310/3100 Dimension

NOTE: ive burned at x16,x4,and x1!

so back on topic i have used 3 distros:

-Mac OS X 10.4.6 x86 Install DVD (JaS)

-MyZ

-HotISO

i have tried all those and still no success... the only error i get is an error during installation when its running the "script" itll tell me: "There was an error during installation, Try Again" and it gives me a restart option... thats the farthest ive gone!

so my question is what options should i enable in the JaS distro as its the most popular around here...???

thanks people

here are my PC Specs along with CPUID and etc.

did u disable ht in bios.. friend was not able to install with ht activated in bios

try another dvd brand..

u have to enable all the intel patchs and the gma 900 patch.. but i think if u select the wrong patches then u could end with a successfull installation but u will have a kernel panic after reboot.

i think your problem is the rolling or the dvd rom. if u are not able to install the native way try with vmware..

good luck

I have the same problem on a dell 4700. I have a working 10.4.3 system, but when upgrading to 10.4.8 I get stopped with that same "try installing again" deal. Let me know what you find. I have a P4 530, and am installing to a PATA drive, though the machine has SATA. 10.4.3 works fine....well enough to make me leave it alone. But it's been easy to try an upgrade as I have a Ghost backup of my 10.4.3 install. BTW, tried the Jas "SSE2 SSE3 Intel AMD" and also the one with the new Diskutil fix....though as I'm upgrading, i don't need diskutilities on the DVD.

thanks for the replies... the Disk reads fine... i hav tried many brands... and the things i select in customization are Intel Patch, (tried both) SSE2, and SSE3 and the GMA900 Patch... thats all and still no go... and i will try diabling HT but id rather have it :thumbsup_anim: but for mac ill do it lol

OK...I haven't had time to try this, but some research I've done on GMA900 video suggests this error is generated as JaS package GMA900 is installed. We may be able to install without that patch and apply one of the other patches once install is complete. There is a big thread around here somewhere on Intel GMA900 and 10.4.8

Let me know what you find about the HT...I tried installing without GMA900 support, and same thing, so the theory from the previous post I made doesn't fly. BTW - I'm running 10.4.3 and it installs and works fine....I'm considering a new video card. so would like a later version that can do Nvidia. I've looked around here and found few references to "try installing again" - I'm not even sure now which package install is generating this error. Seems to come near the end of installation with the custom stuff?

i tried what the wiki said and a few other posts on the forums who had the same comp as me and no success with HT off! im still going to try... i love mac :hysterical:

You might want to try, if you haven't already, putting the DVD drive as the master and the PATA drive as the slave on the same chain. I could never install OSX untill I did that.

Good luck,

Chevy

umm i wud have to do this in the BIOS right? and i would but im afraid it might mess up my OS installed boot up... maybe not but i do have a reset button for BIOS just in case of failure... and one more question i only get the installation error when it starts the Installation Script and it writes to 1% and then fails... files were still put into the partition... sometimes more then other times usually around 500 MB are loaded on HD

V3RT1G0: start with a newer iso: find the JaS AMD/Intel SSe2/SSe3 DVD v2 in the green demon and start from there

once you got that. make a partition (anyway you feel like doing it), make it FAT32 formatted.

now once that is done. pop in your newely burnt disk as stated from above. and once you get to the installer, click on utilities> disk utility

find your newly partitoned and FAT32 Formatted partition and select it then click on the erase Tab.

Name your Partition to whatever you want. now select the format (choose mac oc exteneded, journaled or not doesent matter)

click erase. give it a sec til it done then exit disk utility and then start installing.

*note* ALWAYS start with a bare/zeroed out disk/partition if possible to save yourself headaches.

i just downloaded the JaS 10.4.7 Rebuild Disk and it didnt seem to work either :jester: it failed after writing one 1% again as always and diabolik i kno how to install the thing as far as i kno... but nothing seems to work! others on my same computer have done this and ive tried same as them and still nothing!

EDIT: where can i find this newer ISO? ive done searches on mulitple torrent sites and latest version ive found is 10.4.7 by JaS nothing else

I'm pretty sure that OSX won't work with your CPU, you need to have the new Core Duo or Core 2 Duo processor in order to load OSX.... But who knows.

wtf? no you dont, i have run osx86 on p4, pentium d, pentium extreem, and lots of amds

i have the exact same problem..and yes it took forever to dnloag the 10.4.8..ive been downloading it for 5 days and it haven't finish yet..maybe there's another solution regarding this problem?
wow never gone that long lol... longest ive done was 2 days and this was for 10.4.7 and im going to try the slave/master combo in a bit... seems stupid on how i have to take that clip thing out and move it lol

That's what I had to do. I had one dvd drive on secondary ide and an ide HD on primary ide chainl and for whatever reason I couldn't install OSX. As soon as I put both on the primary ide chain it all worked fine. Now if you have a SATA hard drive then you wouldn't have to do this.

Cheers,

Chevy

i do have a SATA drive lol... but i just found one of my externals... im going to use that for the install but im having a problem... i connected it a ghetto way look at this pic:

i had to connect to the same IDE cable that the DVD drive uses... but i have a problem my primary SATA drive (Windows) is on a SATA cable and not IDE... but this HD doesnt have SATA on it i think... but one thing amazes me... the one i just connected comes out as Hard Drive 1 in Norton Partition Magic and then comes my primary as 2nd... but why? can i get some help and will the HD be safe where its at? i left it open so it can get some air but im not sure what to do since all cables are taken in the mobo

EDIT: looking at what dell just gave me it seems i have Ultra ATA drivers... does that mean im not on SATA?
