So you blame the OS for your rampant stupidity? Or the stupidity of the people that spend their days writing exploits and hacks for an operating system because they have nothing better to do with their time?

Oh, that's just soooo smart... and the question was "Are Apple Users Stupid?"

I wonder... I wonder...

WHAT!! :) You wiped your HD only a whole day after buying a machine with Windows on it?

Aside from the sarcasm, I recently picked up a kickass Core 2 Duo laptop for a great price. Got it home, unpacked it, plugged it in, made sure it worked, and 5 mins later XP SP2 was installing. Within the hour it was all set up and rockin' much better than any OEM install could ever dream of...

Yep, I usually pull the drivers off any new XP machine then reload with a (genuine) VLK installation. Sometimes don't even boot the original OS, just mount the disk or get real up-to-date drivers off the net. Wrt cracks, I use Kerio and Sandboxie (highly recommended) when running anything suspicious.

The last laptop I bought which was sporting the inevitable XP OEM underwent the following treatment:

* unpack

* plug into the mains

* POST and open the BIOS to see if the main components are recognised

* put a Mandriva or Ubuntu CD in (don't exactly remember which one) and restart

* format entire HD to ext3 and install

* sit back and watch the install while having a nice cuppa

Virus? what virus?

:)

Well, I'll confess to using XP more than I use OSX, mainly because of my work. I do have a work-owned G5 for a lot of stuff and I own a G4 Powerbook, but XP is my bread-and-butter system and the only way I can access work applications (there's no work VPN client for the Mac and a lot of the stuff is Windows-only).

I have a carefully-honed process for installing XP which basically turns off a lot of the fancy bits and hand-holding. I use Kerio Personal Firewall, SAV (though you have to configure it carefully), and I do a lot of stuff from the command line because I feel comfortable with that. Usually I can keep an installation in good shape for up to a year before reinstalling everything. I hate bloated apps that take 30 seconds or more to load and I won't go near Media Center. I have a dedicated hardware firewall on my inbound internet connection and have yet to see a virus or malware on my systems, so it is possible to keep clean. But I don't surf porn sites and I use a dedicated ancient laptop for going to places like astalavista, just in case.

I'm not praising Windows unconditionally; frankly as delivered it sucks big time. But if you train it to do what you want, keep it grounded and take some of its more dangerous toys away, it's not a bad OS at all.

I guess the only thing this thread proves is how truly ignorant Macs users are, and nothing more.

I'll bet you'd sleep with 1,000 different women without a condom as well, wouldn't you? ROFLOL

I'm a Mac user and I don't think I'm ignorant ... and for the record, I have no desire to sleep with even one woman (and where would I put the condom?) :worried_anim::hysterical:

Totally :worried_anim: - but before someone offers suggestions as to where Macgirl and I should (separately) put the condoms -

Donald Duck is staying at the Hilton when he meets a very nice lady duck. By the time the bar closes, he knows he's in luck because the lady duck agrees to go to his room with him.

"But I don't have a condom," says Donald (in his incomprehensible duck-speak)

"Ask the receptionist for one," says the lady duck. "They probably have some, this must happen all the time."

Donald goes to reception and asks if they have a condom.

"Certainly, Sir," says the man on reception as he hands over a packet. "Shall I put it on your bill?"

"What do you think I am, a $@* pervert???"

(For those who don't speak fluent English - a duck's Bill = Beak)
