When I was browsing the Apple Store this evening, I noticed something different on the home page around the "Essentials" area on the center column. I googled for the cached copy of store.apple.com (which was dated Dec 14), and, sure enough, I found that the iSight link was missing from the current main page... apparently this had just changed in the past 24 hours!

It turns out that the iSight is, in fact, absent from the entire product index now! Does this mean that Apple is revamping the iSight and planning to release the next version sometime soon?

I'm guessing there is going to be a smaller and HD iSight. Unless isight is already HD? I also think it will be in their HD displays.

from i remember they are being replaced with ROHS conformative iSights. nothing different except for its mercury free.

No, that was handled back around October, if memory serves. If the product has been pulled from the store it might hint at a product revision. However, Apple Insider or Think Secret should've picked up on this if it turns out to be big news after-all.

Crazy idea: wouldn't it be cool if the new iPhones could be docked as cams or used wirelessly with iChat for even more flexible video conferencing? Nah... nvmd.

Apple will probably never drop the concept of having an external camera for sale. Although the latest trend is to integrate it above the display, an integrated camera isn't a total solution for a lot of reasons. I can see why it was used for iMacs and for notebooks, but I can't see them being built into Cinema Displays.

Unlikely to become true, but it would be a killer product.

When i was buying my mac pro, i had trouble buying one, and still haven't got one now. I was told that the plastics were not compliant with some EU rules, and they had to stop selling. But as the topic, yes, apple are relisng a new iSight.
