Well it's definetly something to get excited about, but I for one wouldn't pay that much money for a 12" Pro. Even widescreen. I want either a 12" or smaller Macbook or a new Tablet Mac, whichever will best serve my thirst for mobility. $1700 is crazy. Before the Intel era, you had two options for a small notebook: an iBook or a Powerbook. I don't think it's fair that Apple thinks they've chosen the best screen size for the consumer (13"), and until that smugness is reversed, I won't buy an Apple notebook. I'm a Prosumer and want choice but value at a lower cost than that outrageous price. I'd even pay $1500 for it assuming I'm getting a great deal, but not $1700 USD.

i just bought the new 15" macbook pro c2d and i think its a lil big, would have loved to get something like this, even for the price i dont need to big of a screen, im a student and not a desiegner, even though i use photoshop and other programs i need for a big screen i am at a desktop when i do that work so its no problem for me to hook up to a screen, DVI -> VGA works awesome i use my macbook in bootcamp for my church, i use a program called mediashout and it puts up lyrics and bible verses, anyways im happy with the 15" but i would rather have gotten a smaller and more portable 12" model.

Yes, me too, for me Screen Size does not matter at all but portability, and some time ago I used my 12" PowerBook as media center, It has no InfraRed remote but any BlueTooth mouse serves as remote control, even my celular phone has a remote control ability, and with a USB Soundcard with Digital out it can connect to a Dolby Digital Home Theatre so is very versatile.

This is great news! I'm planning on getting my first ever Mac early next year. I've been seriously waffling between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro.

I really need a small laptop that I can protect well enough to allow pilots to cram it into the cargo compartment of a helicopter, but I also would like adequate processing capability to carry out my school work.

The perfect one for me would be the 13" MacBook with the the power of the 15" Pro (with 256MB Graphics, and PC Card slot) Hopefully that's basically what this new one will be.

Well, the 12" PowerBooks never had the PC Card slot either, and usually skimped on graphics compared to the 15" and 17" PowerBooks. I never really though of them as full-fledged PowerBooks, but as high end iBooks, and apparently someone at Apple agreed, since their model number placed them in the iBook family.

Well, I ended up purchasing a 15" MacBook Pro 2.33 yesterday. (my very first Mac ever!)

It is a little larger and heavier than I would have liked, but I wanted a portable that's powerful enough to last me several good years of software upgrades.

Well that's the price for portability, if a 12" got all that then it will more bulkier.

I never miss the PCCard slot or a better Graphic Card, cause of course for that size of screen you don´t need a Graphic Designer´s size and speed "Card", or even a gamer's "Card".

But the 12" have Slot Loading DVD/CD recorder, the screen is better than the iBook, even the keyboard is better.

I'm glad they are going to do this... I've been saving up for MONTHS to get my first *REAL* Mac... I like smaller sizes, so I was inclined to get the MacBook, but I really wanted a MacBook Pro's performance... the only problem is that I really do want the high end graphics card... There will be times when I'd LIKE to be able to play high end games (even on my small screen) or even connect external display and utilize 256 mb graphics card...

As for the price, well, I don't like that it's expensive, but I guess I can't really complain... it is, after all, more compact and portable :-/

Bottom line -- I'm pumped about this :spam:

Usually ultra portable notebooks with 12 screens are PRicer than their most robust? kins ...

I've just payed about 2000 euros for a 12,2" lappy made by acer, it's worth it, waight is exactly 1500 grams, and has got everything i need including osx :hammer: and vista (i'm using vista cause it's fully working with my hardware, on osx i do not have wifi, lan, sound, cardreader, pccard, irda, webcam ;) ... maby i will stop here ) but i like osx on it much more than the best windows that bill can give me ,

I've paid that amount of money, because there was no apple computer that i need (light, aluminim, powerful, and 12" :)

i'm waiting for the new 12" panorama from apple , and i'm woundering wil it be so fuc*ed as the rest of intel macbooks or will it be something really better (cince G4 PB, apple for me has got very very good OS and very very crappy hardware.

cheers

P.S. one of my friends has got 13,1" macbook, last month the mainboard has been burned twice in a one week (similar problem like the G3 12" had with graphicks)
