is there something newer or more comon what other AMD users use like the 10.4.8 AMD SSE3 DVD from Tubegirl?

I have the problem with my Asus X1600pro PCI-E, 512MB (1x DVI + 1xVGA):

With 10.4.6 and 10.4.7 Jas DVDs I always used the Borisbadenov package 3.2 and had via VGA out full QE and CI and my resolution (1680x1050) - now with the "new" kernel DVD nothing works for the X1600, the 3.6 not, the 3.5, the 3.2 and even old one 2.7 I found or asked for all result in blue screen with mouse cursor and nothing more...

I heard about the natit project, downloaded all kind of ATI kext files...don't know what to do with them.

The beta installer "Natit_Uni_1.0.pkg.zip" did install then reboot resulted in kernel panic at re-start.

Possible solution 4 me:

- another kernel

- natit kext info where to put and how

- natit uni hint

- other gfx card ie NVIDIA ??

Sorry for not replying earlier. I am very busy this period.

Look, I don't want to suggest anything, I still have to test before giving you an answer. I really belive that you should use 10.4.7 Jas with the update for 10.4.8. If this is what is fully working for you, use this, and enjoy your mac. In the meantime you can test other kernel releases, and other beta's. I am making 100 of tests and still keeping my 10.4.7 working like a charm. But testing everything that i still in beta.

Goodluck!

No problem...time doesn't matter...

Yes I stay with JAS 10.4.7 updated to 10.4.8 (10.4) old kernel.

The 2nd partition I mad I use for "testing" the Tubgirl AMD 10.4.8 version.

Here I figured out (lots of help from nice ppl here) how to use Natit - but my card didn't "respond" right so stuck to 1024x768. Got some xmas money from company and will buy another ATI card and hope I'll have more luck :P

Cause all iLife appl. run faster with the new Mac OSX...and that's all I use Mac for.

  • 2 weeks later...

i find that when i upgrade from jas 10.4.7 dvd to the 10.4.8 sse3 combo update (8.4.1) my performance decreases dramatically... also, i no longer have boot up commands... darwin just starts osx right away not even letting me in to safe mode.... what can i do to speed things up?

i am completely confused with the whole upgrade to the newer kernals for amd... no1 has made a clear guide for it yet.... i find osx usable but sluggish at best.... i know my hardware should be able to run it fairly well... what can i do?

btw... about this mac will not show the general hardware thread in system profiler :)

any help?

thanks

Hi Guys,

Was wondering if others are getting truncated output generated from

ioreg -bl -w0 > outputfile.txt

If seems to stop listing object properties before the AppleSMBIOS section. Maybe it has something to do with that.

AppleSMBIOS version

22	0 0x35167000 0x4000 0x3000 com.apple.driver.AppleSMBIOS (1.0.9) <11>

thanks

Hi guys! total mac newbie here.

i have successfully installed natively the vmware mac osx86 image on my pc. im excited and all, foremost because now i know i can do it, and second, finally, my mac osx experience.

now, i really need help to improve my mac user experience. what should i do next? here is my system:

Athlon64 3000+, 512 RAM (scheduled to upgrade to atleast 1gb next week)

Foxconn Motherbard , NForce4 chipset

GeForce 6500 PCIE Graphics Card, 256mb

IDE0, Master = Mac OSX

IDE0, Slave = LiteOn CDRW

SATA0 = WinXP

things id like to work on:

1. osx is working, but too slow. aside from increasing RAM, any suggestions?

2. increase screen size. right now im only using a portion of my monitor, like watching a widescreen movie;

3. other video performance tweaks so that i could get the best possible video experience from osx?

4. mouse response is not that good even at maximum speed

5. that kernel thingy. i used the vmware image, do i need to upgrade asap? to which kernel version?

6. looking at the bios, i know i have sse2 capabilities; but how about sse3?

sorry if i have too much concern in just one post

thanks in advance guys!

Hi. I'm having a weird problem. For some reason if I shutdown or restart with the Extension.kext files when I reboot the system hangs in a lnattach error that eventually ends up in Waiting for Root Device. My setup is as follows:

Compaq V2582 with JAS AMD SSE3 BETA 2 (10.4.8 with 8.8.1 Semthex kernel)

AMD Turion 1.8GHz (SSE3 compatible)

I have installed the following:

X200 ATA kext

AC97 Fix

OrByte's RT8139 fix for 8.8.1

Patched the wireless plist file too

My guess? There's probably a kext causing conflict with the ATI ATA kext that for some reason when Extension.kext is loaded when it was created on a past session, is loaded before the ATI ATA kext and leaves the installation blind to find the root. I can boot up in Safe mode, which ignores the file completely and boots as if Extensions.kext didn't exist, and I can go in to remove it and then am able to boot the system back up without a problem. The issue is what Kext is being loaded before the ATI ATA kext! Any ideas guys?

@zoo101

Hi. Athlon 3000+ doesn't support SSE3. You're actually lucky it even supports SSE2. SSE3 is supported by the AMD Turion line and above if I'm not mistaken.

I'm looking for a solution to adding ATA drives for video editing on my AMD system (see specs in my sig - I have 2-160GB ATA drives currently on a Sil0680 RAID card under Win XP x64)

Is it a lost cause and I need to go to SATA drives?? Problem is that my nForce SATA is non-functional currently with JaS 10.4.8 and Tubgirl's releases. If I can find a fully supported PCI HD controller card, I would be a happy camper. I understand the issues with nVidia and such, but otherwise, my machine smokes compared to Windows. I would switch completely in a heartbeat if I can resolve this issue.

PLEASE anyone???? :D

I have an ASUS M2N4-SLI with Athlon 64 4200+ x2 AM2 from a friend here to set up a x86 system. I have the 10.4.8 SSE2 SSE3 DVD from JaS, but it has too much errors (mainly the missing PCI support and the disk utility problem). So I want to use my myzar 10.4.7 again. But SSE3 is only running with a single cpu, so how can I deactivate one of the cores? I tried editing apple.com.boot.plist with kernel flags cpus=1 and/or platform=ACPI, platform=X86PC etc, no effect. In System Profiler and Activity Monitor always 2 cpus are detected.

Is apple.com.boot.plist the right file to patch? If so, how must be the exact kernel flag line? If there would be a way to fix the 10.4.8 image it would be ok, too.

  • 2 weeks later...

finally got my hands on jas 10.4.8 and patched it with jas v1p patch.

burn it to DVD/RW.

boot it up

installed on SATA hdd

reboot

"still waiting for root device"

i've searched around for the solution to this. what i can conclude is that SATA nforce4 not yet supported (please confirm), although i found it strange that during installation, OSX is able to see and erase my SATA hdd.

not knowing what to do with my SATA hdd yet, i turned to my PATA 30gb hdd. installed OSX

and wow, .......

i'm amazed...... it seemed that 10.4.8 is the perfect installation so far. everything seemed to work right after installation, no need to do any modifications whatsoever.

restart and shutdown works, QE and CI supported (hence DVD playback), network works, browsing with safari and chatting with yahoo also works. mail works. itunes runs without a glitch.

can't run iCal (dunno why), SATA hdd not seen.

my working hackintosh system:

AMD athlon64 3000+ venice

DFI Infinity nforce4

MSI 6600GT pcie

non-USB mouse + keyboard

PATA hdd

a very big thanks to the internet society here there and everywhere for this success attempt. a bit of problems but not in a hurry to solve them yet, although any comments would be welcomed.

You have to patch the following:

- Windows network isnt't working: restore smbfs.kext with 10.4.7 one

- nForce 4 SATA: restore 10.4.7 VIAATA.kext (funny: it works on nForce 3)

- CPU's gettin to hot: delete AppleThermal.kext inside AppleACPIPlatorm.kext (my 3400+ is about 6°C cooler with that)

- Realtek 8139 and C-Media 8738 sound aren't working (not tested by myself, search the forum)

- For AGP users: there's a newer AGPGart here: http://x86dev.org/forums/index.php?topic=46.0 But it's so slow than the other one: My AGP X1600Pro is fully supported in PCI and AGP mode, Xbench says in PCI mode about 39 and in AGP mode 44. So no big effect.

BAD PROBLEMS:

- no PCI support anymore

- disk utility has bugs: restoring a complete hd from a .dmg brings error -5308 or error 19 - drive not supported. Creating of some types of empty .dmg files also isn't working correctly. Disk utility patch is not working to solve the problem

- for AGP chipsets thre is the problem that Quicktime 7.1.3 is already installed on the 10.4.8 DVD, and its MUCH to slow to watch a movie on an AGP graphics card. Watching a DVD is absolutely impossible.

Haven't my signature finished yet, so here my systems in short:

Athlon 64 3400+ Clawhammer SSE2 only, Radeon X1600Pro AGP, nForce 3

Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego SSE2+SSE3, Radeon X1600Pro PCI-E, nforce 4

The problems of 10.4.8 are higher than the advantages, so I reverted back to myzar 10.4.7, my systems are running absolutely perfect with it. Especially the disk utility problem is reason enough for me 'cause I make heavily use of using disk images.

Hello,

I did every things correct with a install of mac os x 10.4.8 Jas SS2-SS3. When I start with the DvD-R, it start the loading but after 1 min it block at this sentence: "Kernel version: Darwin Kernel version 8.8.1 Sat Dec 9 22:18:27 AZOT 2006; semtex:/nebukadnezar/BUILD/obl/REALESE_I386"

The computer freeze there. I never see the grey (great) logo of apple. Always block in the prompt. buhuuuu :hysterical:

I never can start normally a install. I always have to use "-x" to arrive at the message that is onthe top.

PLease HHEEEELLPPPPPPPP, please...

I arrived to make it work in vmware for the install but after a will, I cannot use it or re-use it after install it again. Totoaly no sense...

My configue by cpuz:

Amd Athlon 64 x2 3800+ dual processor code name Winsdor

1 Gb memory

2x Sata 250Gb

256 Mb videocard

1x Dvd-Ram PATA

Try using the cpus=2 boot flag. I can't get my AMD x2 to boot OS X without it.

Try reseting the CMOS on the board and set bios to default or reset, go ahead and set anything that may be needed. If you cant boot after you reset, you should be able to reinstall and have osx recognize ACPI. If you have problems with stuttering, type idlehalt=0
