@Peerke: Use the latest prebuilt binary. If it doesn't resolve the issue, get another NIC as the I219 has a serious hardware bug which is the root of all problems.

Has anyone experienced ethernet not working after a reboot?

 

Since updating to the latest driver, every time I boot OS X I have no internet access and in my network prefs my interface has the yellow light next to it and says, "this computer is using a self-assigned IP and will not be able to connect to the internet."

 

If I delete both en0 and en1 from my network preferences and then reboot, my ethernet works fine - but if I start OS X up another time, I have to repeat this process.

 

This is my X99 classified on 10.11.6.

Probably, I just don't know why it's happening. The driver is the only thing that has changed to my knowledge - although in order to get the new version to work I had to delete my networkpreferences.plist, but that's never been a problem before. Any advice?

The yellow light indicates that the link has been established, anything else is beyond it's scope and has to be done by the network stack. By the way, I would check the DHCP server too.

What am I looking for on the DHCP server (just a router in my case)? All other devices on my network seem to be fine.

There are two things which may cause this behavior:

  1. The Mac doesn't send a DHCP request.
  2. The DHCP server doesn't respond to the DHCP request.

Hi Mieze,

I've ran into an issue after installing the most recent security update through the App Store. I'm on 10.11.6 and the security update brings me to build number 15G1212. My motherboard NIC is listed as an Intel I219V2 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet under System Report -> Ethernet Cards. I'm also injecting your kext using Clover r3961.

Every time I reboot I get the "Your computer was restarted because of a problem" screen. I also can't properly shutdown anymore. It will just reboot instead and display the problem message. I've confirmed this behavior on two separate 10.11.6 installs.

The panic report mentions com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily(3.2) and com.insanelymac.IntelMausiEthernet(2.2) so I figured I'd check with you.

I installed the Debug version of v2.2.0 of your kext and then replicated the problem. I've attached my grepped system.log output to this post. The top of the log is where I initiate a reboot. By the end of the log I'm back in the OS. I've also included the panic report if that might help.

Let me know if there's any more details that I can provide.

This is not a driver issue but a DSDT error preventing the system from proper shutdown and reboot. Fix your DSDT and the problem will disappear.

Well, it appears I spoke too soon... I'm still having a problem with the DHCP lease. I'm not sure what the next step is... How do I check if my Hack is sending a DHCP request and if the router is responding to it?

Create a packet dump with Wireshark, or switch to a manual configuration.

It appears my problem has something to do with rebooting from Windows. Rebooting in OS X I'm unable to replicate the problem. I took a couple of captures with wireshark... One is after booting, the second one is after removing and re-adding en0 in the network preferences.

 

I'm going to try a manual configuration as well, although I basically have no idea what I'm doing as far as that goes, I've never done anything like that beyond just a static IP.


EDIT: Tried setting the IPV4 manually to Subnet 255.255.255.0, router 192.168.1.1, DNS 192.168.1.1, IP 192.168.1.253 (same as what it defaults to aside from the IP). After rebooting to Windows and back into OS X, it showed the interface as connected, except that it won't connect to anything, just sits there loading forever... Here's another packet dump from that.

@jamiethemorris: Looks like the DHCP sever gets confused when you are switching from Windows to OS X because the operating systems don't know of each other but the DHCP server sees just one client and isn't aware of the switch. Ok, this might be an explanation for the strange behavior.

This isn't the first weird thing that's happened with this PC switching between Windows and OS X... The other one was a strange kernel panic, I don't recall how I resolved it.

 

Anyway, check my post again, I'm not sure if you saw the second packet dump, I posted it around the same time you replied.

 

If it won't take the manual IPV4 settings, is there anything I can do about it, perhaps something in my router configuration? Otherwise I could probably try one of those cheap gigabit ethernet cards that work OOTB and see if that helps.

Packet reception works as packets have been received in both configurations. According to the dump, transmission works too but in order to make sure that the packets really appear on the wire you would have to create a packet dump on the other endpoint. At least I can see that the NIC's transmitter is processing packets as there would be a chip reset in case of a transmitter hang. All in all there is no indication of a hardware or driver issue.

 

Are you sure that the manual configuration is correct? In both dumps I found MDNS packets received from a machine with IP address 192.168.1.3 which appears to be a Marvell NIC. Is this another machine on the network or your router?

192.168.1.3 is my media server/htpc. I'm not 100% sure the manual configuration I used is correct, however it did work before I rebooted into Windows and back into OS X.

 

How do I make a packet dump on the other endpoint (I'm assuming that would be the router?)?

The best way to test hardware is when you connect 2 machines directly so that interfering devices can be ruled out but you could also try to create a packet dump on the media server. Trying to ping 192.168.1.3 with a manual configuration should deliver at least some ARP requests on the other side.

I just recently stumbled onto the MausiEthernet kext and I'd like to add my 2 cents.  I really appreciate the time it took to make this kext.  Thank you.

 

With this kext I was able to get 802.3ad link aggregation working with internal ethernet cards from different manufacturers (Intel I217V and Killer E2200).

 

After beginning to study Cisco networking in college; we discussed Jumbo frames and their advantages.  With my ISP now offering Gigabit speeds, it would probably help if this kext supported Jumbo sizes.  It really opened my eyes to see the huge overhead of information in a frame compared to the data payload.

 

Just thought I would share.  Thank you for helping me get this working.  Very good work.

At the moment I have not worked on my MB intel DP55WB when i try Mavericks and it generates this error. I need a hand, thank you.

The UEFI network stack or some kind of remote management software is still in control of the NIC preventing the driver from taking control. Check you UEFI settings and disable it.
