ok i really need some help with my usb. I have 10.4.8 with kernel:

8.8.1 Darwin Kernel Version 8.8.1: Sat Dec 9 22:18:27 AZOT 2006; semthex:/nebukadnezar/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386 i386 i386

The problem im having is that my system wont boot up or boots so slowly that i would take all day when i have IOUSBFamily.kext 2.6.1 loaded and apperantly my keyboard and trackpad would not work either (Havent gotten far enough to find out others that have this setup say that it happens. So i loaded IOUSBFamily.kext 2.4.6 cause it was a fix for the keyboard issue and my system boot time returns to normal but i only have USB 1.1 support. When the 2.6.1 or the one that goes with 10.4.8 is loaded my boot slows at:

checking disk

Mounting file system

kextd parent task timed out waiting for signal from child

If i have 2.4.6 loaded it boots fine but has a yellow error in verbose mode saying:

Failed to load extension com.apple.usb.ehci

So i have tried the fix pcgenusbehci from above for 2.4.6 and 2.6.1

with the following errors durring boot:

2.4.6: PCGenUSBEHCI-256.4.2a : Failed to load extension .....

2.6.1: PCGenUSBEHCI-261.4.2a.zip: cant determine immediate dependencies for extension com.OrByte.drive.PcGenUSBEHCI Can't Alloc AppleUSBEHCI

any help or instites would be great my system configuration is in sig and my bios is so limited i cant turn off legacy support

Thanks

PCGen-256.4.2a is for Kernel 8.4.1 (10.4.7), USBFamily 2.4.6 is for 10.4.6.

Also, IOUSBFamily includes an AppleUSBEHCI plugin which will conflict with PCGen. I m not sure whether any of this will help you, but it is what comes to mind.

Best.

thanks for the reply but i have to use 2.4.6 its the only version that allows my keyboard to work. and when i tried pcgen i removed appleehci

thanks

again though

USB DOES work with 10.4.10. The following files are needed for USB external volumes incl. certain mp3 players and USB sticks to work with Mac OS x86 10.4.10:

BugsBunny, please upload it somewhere. I can't download it =(

hey old man, don't step on that beard, it's grey .. ;)

@ all: I reupped the 'USB with 10.4.10' kexts here in my old posting, this time as even smaller .rar because I am on a slooooowwww modem connex right now.

so orByte, I guess you won't even bother getting into compiling EHCI for Leo for yourself because you are satisfied with 10.4.x and don't even have da.big.cat installed ;) ?

Cheers,

Bugs

.. but big daddy, kiddies wanna do it for themselves .. :D

no just kidding - coding & compiling is more than just installing XCode and pressing a button, it's an art; my compilation efforts also never produced the desired results ..

Do you have Leo running on your iHack? I have not had a chance yet to download any of the releases because temorarily I am in the 56k wormhole-switch between 6 and 16 MBit right now ..

Hmmm... yes let's see what challenges this one will throw  . I don t have Leo running yet but hope to have so by the weekend.

orByte, so hows the leopard version coming. im interested to see what you do with this one. I tried your old one with leopard, obviously it didnt work as planned. anywho thanks for all your hard work. keep it up

ps. let me know if u need anything for the leopard install. I had just about every problem go wrong, while doin so, grabbing just about every help file out there for the install. I ended up patching my own disk. worked fine then.

Thanx! for the offer. Just begun the process of getting Leopard to purr like a kitten!!

I installed the generic driver into my Leopard install. Seems like USB2.0 is working fine (USB drives, apple alum keyboard), but my Logitech MX1000 and Bluetooth dongle don't work. I have to go back to an old PS2 mouse for now. So, looks like USB 1.2 doesn't work for me with the generic driver. BTW...I am running on Asus A8R32-MVP.

OK, Leopard is now up and running on my main unit... But I am slightly distracted... I have also been setting up Leopard on a Gateway ML6227b laptop (Celeron 520) and this is cool so far: graphics (Intel GMA 950) fully supported, Marvel 88E8038 supported by 88E8053 after adding the device id and as the x053 is Gigabyte setting in the Network the speed manually to 100. RTL 8187L Wireless OK after using realtek's supplied driver (website). Have not looked at Audio yet... And so on. On the USB front neither unit suffers from the EHCI restart problem so after the coding I ll definitely need some testers.

Best

Only problem: The laptop unit does not fare well for USB booting - both GRUB and the Darwin loader will not boot through USB - probably getting confused by drive geometry or something... Have not tested under windows though (And probably never will :-) )

Hey all,

I have leopard installed, and USB worked perfect for me, never had a problem. But I updated my BIOS yesterday and now all of a sudden, USB does not work in Leopard anymore. I can see my USB connections in the info manager, but nothing I plug in works. Also, if I dont have the USB Legacy emulation, or whatever you would call that, enabled, I get a KP unless I boot with -legacy boot flag. By the way, I'm on a Toshiba satellite p105-s6064 laptop if that helps. I saw this thread and was just curious if my problem could be cured with the Leopard drivers when they come out or if I may need to go another direction. I am also willing to test drivers, so just say the word and I'll test for you.

Thanks,

Geiman
