drcreek
I work in a school as the IT handyman who comes in once a week. It's currently the school holidays in the UK and I'm going to Uni at the end of September. The head-teacher at the school is kindly letting me buy an iMac (and possibly a macbook) with their 10% EDU discount plus their 17.5% discount of VAT (sales tax) so i' m getting it pretty cheap. This is it's still £1200 I don't want to be spending that much and it being obsolete a week later with the rumour of the Core Duo 2 coming out. What i want to know is "Hypothetically" speaking If they release the core duo 2 and I take it back to the Apple store within the first 90 days with a "fault" will they change it for another Core Duo 1 or a Core Duo 2? If I can be sure they will change it for the Core Duo 2 i will make sure it has a fault. The last date i can order is the 6th of September. So if apple don't release the Core Duo 2's by then i will be stuck with the above problem.
rick taylor
Depends on the nature of your "fault", if the fault is a result of "accidental" damage then you wont get anything from Apple. It would be a matter for your insurance company. I wouldn't suggest you engineer any kind of accident though, insurance fraud is serious {censored}. Don't worry too much about the current Imac becoming obsolete, it's a great machine and as I understand it, you will be able to upgrade the processor to a faster chip when they become available. drcreek
That is the thing though. I can't afford to upgrade and i certainly don't want to be voiding my warranty within one month by doing so. I need a machine next month that is going to last me at least two years on a design course. Video and Sound editing will be it's main use. So the advantage of a Core Duo 2 would do me a lot of good. Also i can pull an old trick i pulled off on a laptop a couple of years ago. I put a 9 Volt battery across every connection i can find till it wont boot anymore. Non traceable. What I'm asking is if i take it to the apple store will they change it for a core duo 2? if not then I'll just put up with it.

Why not just wait a bit and not take a chance with your hard earned pounds?
drcreek
Actually. In the first term I wont be needing to do any hard core stuff. And I'm still keeping ties with work so I can still go back for summer and Christmas work during the holidays. I'll just wait for the first break and then buy one then. Yeah it's an awful lot of fannying about. Heh so young and foolish am I.
non sequitur
by the way, your macbook or imac will not be obsolete to the core 2 duos. i doubt they would make that much of a difference, seeing as how my mbp blows away anything else. computer processors cannot possibly advance in technologies that fast, so youd still have a great fast computer even if its not the top of the line product. asap18
Just make sure you stock up on ram which greatly improves speed in os x. Also in leopard e are supposed to see 100% speed increases.
U.C.
They replaced my 3g ipod with a 3g even though it was like 6 months after the 4g release. You probably will get a Core Duo. Also do you know how to royally f*** up a laptop, so that Dell will replace it completely

U.C.
but i have to kill it. Now how do I kill it completely. I was thinking pourin lemonade. Lemonade being an electrolyte should f*** up the mobo and cause short circuiting, causing a whole lot to screw up

unstatusthequo
Wouldn't selling it on eBay be easier than insurance fraud? I mean the risk/reward is really heavily unbalanced. On a side note, if it's a Dell with the exploding battery problem, just heat that {censored} up to about 170 F and see if it goes boom. Hehe. Swad
The battery idea is genius! If they could track it down, it would look like their fault.
