manmal
It would be really great to remap media smart button! I will try soon the FN keys mod to be able to use them in OSX , like brightness and so on. I found a dsdt way to add them . I just need to adapt them to our laptop. Another couple questions ... 1) has anyone found a "stable" way to use internal card reader for sd in hdx18? voodoosdhc or iosdhci kext? 2) has anyone found a way to use remote control with frontrow and other software, like a true macbook or imac? 3) has anyone found a way to use internal aver tv tuner of hdx18 under osx with any software (eyetv and so on)? Most urgent parts are , in my case , battery stuff (not voodoohda, better if native with dsdt injection code if some experts may explain it to us) and audio enabling after sleep (here too... if any expert may help us to find the right dsdt code to inject to enable audio after sleep and where). Thanks! Mal Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/215233-guide-the-macbookpro18-project/page/11/#findComment-1586572 Share on other sites

pepeducks
Did you check you sleep mode? On HDXs, we can only use Hibernate only and Sleep only mode. Use Smartsleep and change your sleep mode. Thank you JBraddock I used sleep mode 3 in SL 10.6.4 and it's ok. But in 10.6.5 It can't, So I must change to sleep mode 0 as you said. Now It's work I saw a lot of HDX have problem with audio. But I use Voodoohda Ver 2.61 (Fixed). This is the one of voodoohda that can use volume control and audio jack Here VoodooHDA.kext.zip Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/215233-guide-the-macbookpro18-project/page/11/#findComment-1586924 Share on other sites

Kext file, fixes, DSDT file, pretty much everything. Valv and I never had S3 sleep working. So, it is surprising that it was working for you. Regarding the audio, the problem with the audio is that it doesn't work after sleep, otherwise everything seems to work fine. Do you have no-sound-after-sleep-issue with VoodooHDA.kext? Also, some people reported that they'd had random KPs due to VoodooHDA.kext. Do you have this problem as well? Just some random kp at startup sometimes but at next reboot with -v everything runs fine and audio resumes after sleep (perhaps they embedded some code for auto-awake inside the voodoohda kext) . I am sure there is a dsdt solution for that, but we don't know how to handle it. We have to find a solution for that, because i am sure there is! In this way we can use applehda . Another step-forward is to use native battery management with some dsdt injection of power settings ... Also, you shouldn't have a SSDT.aml table in Extra folder. Anyway, I am testing a different way of enabling speed step thanks to Valv. I'll let you know. By the way, guys, good news. I contacted the guy who sell HP Atheros AR9280 802.11a/b/g/n and he said it is compatible with my laptop. Previously, I tried a toshiba one and that didn't go well. Apparently, the bios is also check for the sub system id. I purchased the card but it'll take a while to collect it. So, I let you know if it works. MacKonsti
Guys, sorry for posting here despite the fact I don't own a compatible laptop... I just wanted to share my input on the legacy kext (well, part of it) that you posted, regarding the built-in iSight reference. I wanted to also make my webcam on my Dell Mini 10v reported as iSight. So I added a field that was missing from you guys, namely idVendor (for Apple as 0x05ac): <key>IOKitPersonalities</key> <dict> <key>Dell Built-in iSight</key> <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>com.apple.driver.AppleUSBMergeNub</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>AppleUSBMergeNub</string> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOUSBDevice</string> <key>IOProviderMergeProperties</key> <dict> <key>USB Product Name</key> <string>Built-in iSight</string> <key>iProduct</key> <integer>2</integer> <key>idVendor</key> <integer>1452</integer> <key>kSuspendPort</key> <true/> <key>non-removable</key> <string>yes</string> </dict> <key>idProduct</key> <integer>41257</integer> <--my stuff <key>idVendor</key> <integer>1614</integer> <--my stuff </dict> </dict> Can you tell me why the idProduct has value 2? Just out of curiosity... Nevertheless, it's reported in my System Profiler as Apple (vendor) but still SuYin as Manufacturer (guess it's the actual maker of my webcam). Thanks in advance. manmal
Maybe not in that way, take a look at these ones (untested):batterysleep.zipbatteryhibernate.zip Hi valv, i finally put my hands on such battery script. In the way you modified it, the problem is that when you power the laptop on again, after sleep (ie while battery is charging), the hibernate mode is set to 3 and i have to reboot to have the script running again... not a big problem tho, but In the meanwhile decided to use hibernate mode 3 for the whole script(no matter if it takes some seconds more to sleep), and found this nice command: pmset sleepnow . I have another problem tho, that system awakes itself suddenly (perhaps due to the script process that lets it powering on again). So i decided to hibernate when the level is lower than 5% . The problem is that the script ends when it hibernates. Is there a way to modify it so that it is constantly running ? Perhaps we need a repeat-until conditional statement that runs forever and that has a "permanent" check that doesn't end when battery is lower tan 5% (without it,like it is now, the script ends when battery is lower than 5%!). Perhaps we should find a way that keeps the script active and checks battery, to simply wait (sleep 120 is ok) while battery is charging and lower than 5% . If battery is higher than 5% and charging, the script may be the same, but active again .... if battery is lower than 5% and charging , nothing ... otherwise if battery is lower than 5% and it is not charging, then sleep/hibernate. Perhaps in this way(running forever)? : #!/bin/sh batterystatus='100' until [ $batterystatus -lt -100 ]; do until [ $batterystatus -lt 3 ]; do pmset -a hibernatemode 3 sleep 120 batterystatus=$((`/usr/bin/pmset -g batt | grep Internal | awk '{ print $2 }' | awk -F % '{ print $1 }'`)) done pmset -a hibernatemode 25 pmset sleepnow done I didn't find a way to have a chargingflag that is 1 if battery is charging and 0 if not, ... i'd need to do this with such chargingflag : #!/bin/sh batterystatus='100' until [ $batterystatus -lt -100 ]; do until [ $batterystatus -lt 3 ]; do pmset -a hibernatemode 3 sleep 120 batterystatus=$((`/usr/bin/pmset -g batt | grep Internal | awk '{ print $2 }' | awk -F % '{ print $1 }'`)) done if (not(chargingflag)) then pmset -a hibernatemode 25 pmset sleepnow else end done the first until loop needs for running it forever (it checks if batterystatus has a value higher than -100 ... it has always that, assuming you have the correct value reporting battery status)... always positive Mal Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/215233-guide-the-macbookpro18-project/page/11/#findComment-1595812 Share on other sites
inovice
I did take a look at the DSDT file and actually it is not that different. Please download the following DSDT files of whose I fixed the errors and I added only DTGP method to it. DSDT.aml.zip You can go on and apply the rest. I checked your DSDT and noticed that most of the hacks apply to your machine. You may not find your Ethernet, Power Adapter and Firewire devices but it is ok. If you don't find them by searching their device names mentioned in the first page. Try using device id. For example, this is my power adapter. Device (ACAD) { Name (_HID, "ACPI0003") Name (_PRW, Package (0x02) { 0x18, 0x03 }) If you search for Device (ACAD) in your DSDT, you may not find it. But if you search for ACPI0003, you can. I didn't apply other fixes on purpose because I am pretty sure that you can do it. Post your troubles back here. You do this and I help you with the rest including speedstep. @JBraddock I have spent weeks, oh no I guess months now, I don't really know anymore how long trying to get my laptop to work well with Snow. I managed to have video, ethernet, camera and processor showing up properly under system info. However, I have 2 USBs (DV3500 has only 2) that keep dying on me for some reasons, I have added the config shown under USB/AHCI fix as per this thread and still it doesn`t work. I also found other USB fix on DSDT added hack, but when I change to it, I will loose my web camera. I am getting really tired of this hack thing. If I don`t get this fix by the end of the month, I am selling this HP and moving to a Mac-Book. I had enough of sleepless night, getting really depress of this Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/215233-guide-the-macbookpro18-project/page/11/#findComment-1601288 Share on other sites

valv
hey mal, honestly, adapting applehda to our mobos seems like going wild with too much things unknown as of now. sorry, I know this is not the best answer you liked to hear; but what about voodoohda, why not start from there and try to improve it (just a suggestion though nothing in plan yet). so far am happy with this version (hdmi is working with sound) except for kp. I'd study it. I think Valv is right. It might be easier to work on VoodooHDA. Sadly, right now I don't have an HDTV to use the hdmi port. So I'll stick with AppleHDA for now. I need to start using sleep so I can use VoodooHDA. Sometimes I totally forget that sleep is working and shutdown the computer right away BTW, how often do KPs occur? Does it happen while using the OSX or prior to booting? Finally, does it work in Extra folder. @Valv, also with the new bootloader, I managed to get 1 hours and 35 minutes battery life on battery mode with wifi open and surfing. For a two years old battery that seemed good to me. Also, I think while using the HDX on battery mode, CPU goes into deeper states than it does on AC. This is good news for me especially for my writings as this will be very convenient. I still couldn't collect the wifi card. I am desperately waiting for it.
