Where do I put this? Does it work from Extra folder?

I need to remove HDEF and Legacy HDA first I guess.

This is meant to be put in /System/Library/Extensions/

and yes those other audio related kexts (apple's & legacy) need to be removed. But no need to remove HDEF from dsdt.

well, in the meantime I patched voodoohda's nodes. and since then no kps (since some days).

If u want to test it is hereVoodooHDA.kext.zip

:) At first, I had with problem recreating caches as it gave kp and wouldn't start without -x. But then I noticed that I hadn't removed AppleHDA.kext. Instead of removing this kext, I removed HDEF from DSDT, which actually loads AppleHDA.

I hope it was totally because of AppleHDA as it seems so.

 

Now, it seems to work fine except mute. It changes audio icon to muted but I have still sound coming from speakers. I use play/stop button to mute sound while using ITunes. Audio after sleep is working :) Also it seems to be a clean kext as I don't have any error on Console in both booting and while playing a song.

 

Lets hope that it doesn't give us no more KP.

 

Edit: When I said that mute wasn't working I meant the touch button. Otherwise, pulling the volume level icon to the bottom from menu bar mutes sound.

Mine is working. I also had cleaner sound; plus I've managed to get bottom subwoofer working.

Hmm. in my case it is not working. I tried it by touch button and also by clicking on Mute in Sound Preferences.

Are you able to use play/pause button like me?

Also, how do you test if subfoower is working?

 

Do you think that we have some nodes different?

this is what I did after aggregating devices on Audio MIDI Setup Utility:

I don't know if this has any effect on subwoofer, but sound is 100% crackle free.

Do you think that we have some nodes different?

I tried to do the same settings in Audi Midi Utility. However, I can't have audio icon appear in Aggregate Device. In order to do this, I have to right click and then choose "use this device for sound sound output". But when I do this, the volume icon becomes greyed out and volume control button don't work. Audio is still working and I can change format to 16 Bit and it takes effect though.

Also, today also I witnessed KPs during boot which didn't let me to boot without -x. I did restart the machine and once i'd managed to start the OSX with -x and it booted normally. Here is the screenshot.

I also tried to dump the codec info. There were two utilities to do the job and I used both of them. I dumped the codec after making the changes you'd suggested.

Edit: I found a post from Slice related to KPs which reads

And one more thought. May be panic related to /System/Library/Extensions/OSvKernDSPLib.kext? Do we need it? VoodooHDA uses own DSPlib

It seems KP arises when the driver wants to send some command to non-existing address/device/node.

Also you said that the format changes fixed the crackling sound but I didn't have that problem in the first place. I play songs from ITunes and it seems to handle it well.

 

Edit: It seems like VoodooHDA tries to load itself too early. I can boot into OSX with -f or -x. Normal booting is not working. I tried a couple of times.

I feel like we 're having different Node-IDs. I fix them for u if u'd provide me with some dumps from windows. Do u have it already installed mate ? or maybe someone with same machine as u, has it ?

Unfortunately I don't have Windows installed. But I have a live linux dvd, would that do the job?

do u mate use the GenericBrightness.kext from ivik ?

btw, u can go to this topic, at the end of the first post u can download a script to dump those values (for sound) made by hoob. boot with live cd, launch it (need internet access) and get me those dumps.

No I don't use that. I was planing to give it a try when I had a full backup though. Did it work for you?

Yes I noticed that wifi is working on Ubuntu. Also I realised that I missed built-in wifi working on OS :rolleyes: Xmas+bad weather, I couldn't collect the delivery of the wifi card yet.

 

Anyway, I managed to dump the system information. It took me for a while to figure out that I needed to put bash at the beginning of a shell script to run it on terminal. I attached all the files that had been extracted in case you might need them for your bootloader work.

Well Ive been at this for a little over 3 or 4 days now and finally decided to post. Ive tried just about everything, followed your guide to the letter and have one compile error. Ive even tried starting fresh over 10 times and still cant get it to compile.

Holy {censored}! Today, I used compressed air to clean the dust from the fan and airflow of HDX. Guess, how much difference it did make (: Now temperature is around 38-44.
nice! also, u should have known that the hdx18's case is badly designed by hp (dunno about 16). I gained about 4ºC when I elevated the mobo from the desk (about 6cm). Pay attention to not block the any airflow.

People having HDX 16/18 with F32 bios version(latest version) and 361B motherboard, can flash their bios with this modified one (no more 104 error on any card). No need to add dev id, vend id, just swap it with another card and you are good to go. You can obtain the modded version of bios from the download link below.

I have it installed on my HDX 16, and have tried bcm4312mcg (my friends) with the bcm43xx enabler script. I don't get 104 error at all. The card is recognized as Airport card. You can flash your bios without any worries.

you were right to ask. But, u got me wrong. What I tried to tell u was: if u want to see the impact of the boot-loader's tweaks on the cpu, u could use msrtools (that runs in 32bit mode only). Those tweaks are there, in 32/64bit mode.

keep in mind (in case u want to go that far) that the wifi button could become unusable (as somebody previously mentioned).

 

p.s: regarding voodoohda, I could not go any further. probably, because I needed u to dump from a linux with alsa drivers (latest) installed.
