gizbug
Curious as to why you chose to run mac os x? I like to play games, and from what I've read mac os isn't the place to do that. My GF has a mac, and plays WOW on it (I enjoy that game also). I am currently running XP SP2 on the desktop, and Vista Beta 2 on the laptop. ALthough beta 2 is nice, I haven't found anything great about it, the looks are nice, but a lot don't work on it, and its still beta. So why did you make the change? Obvisioulsy not for gaming. GCY
about the Vista Beta, Will I run into problems if I replace that with my current installment of windows?? Like if I should keep my existing windows in case Vista Beta has problems cause its obviously only a beta. Wayland
Osx interface is outstanding. Everything runs smooth for me, every time! I love FCP, and the features of word, like the school notes format. And it works! and works every time, no viruses (few to none) and seems to run faster with my aps. Just to name a few Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19009-to-those-who-went-from-windows-to-mac-os-x/#findComment-124515 Share on other sites

ampTK
well to keep it simple and short: stability, security and reliability (it's a bsd) simplicity, ease of use the interface is not only beautiful, but practical and conformable to work with (even long periods of time) also it's pretty neutral so it wont affect your work if you are one of those creative types Of curse, no OS is perfect, and there are thins that i would change, but is really great. If you want to get more specific or technical we can go there too. Also, do you have any opinions on guides to use to install the OS (non-dual boot)? Finally, if after a period of time, is is possible to wipe this OS/partition and reinstall windows clean? I doubt you mean system 6 ; ) so I assume you want to say 10.4.6, I have have 10.4.5 but for no real reason, I just haven't updated it. if you don't want to dual boot everything just got easier. If you find a patched DVD image that works well with your system , just burn it, boot and install (but I installed 10.4.4 when the first patches came out in february so I'm not in the know of recent dvd images) And yes, if you don't like OS X and want to get rid of it just push Windows CD on the tray boot and do a clean install. zu1u
i sought to get away from winders too it's not a very user friendly os, less powerfull than OS X, a lot less secure.. sadly most linux distros didn't quite satisfy my needs.. OS X does.. plus it's an adventure Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19009-to-those-who-went-from-windows-to-mac-os-x/#findComment-124682 Share on other sites
xiberia
for the sheer simplicity of it (the OS I mean, not installing the bloody thing lol) for example, it takes 2 minutes to write an automator action that can take todays photos, shrink them down, post them to a website or email them to a list. then its one click. in Windows, you have to open at least 4 apps to do that in Windows. I could... but nah, life is too short Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19009-to-those-who-went-from-windows-to-mac-os-x/#findComment-124718 Share on other sites
jrsdead
UNIX power wrapped up in that beautiful aqua look who could say no!!! Plus the increased security and things just work. I only use windows to watch videos at full screen anymore as macvidia has no video acceleration layer yet. As for games that is why i have a PS2 and gamecube consoles are for games computers are for practical things. Sabr
So watching dvds or xvid files in mac isn't as good as windows? If you have an ATi graphjcs card, check the driver thread for OSx86 drivers. Then you will be fine for watching videos, etc... If you have an nVidia graphics card, there is currently a driver being developed which will (hopefully!) soon have full funtionality. Also, if you want to save burning an ISO to a DVD, you can follow my guide (check my signature). However, the quicker route is just burn the bootable ISO as an image to a DVD (I used Nero - it worked ok) and boot of it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/19009-to-those-who-went-from-windows-to-mac-os-x/#findComment-124763 Share on other sites

I have a clean partition/hd on my laptop and trying to install by using the JaS iso on a dvd, boot up with that, and install. Is that not the way to do it? I do have an nVIDIA card, go7400. Do you have a website with infor / progress on this new driver? Doesn't installing on VMWare kind of like run the OS ontop of another OS? You are not really running the OS, but using it inside a window in windows, no? I did this a while back with VISTA (did it via vmware on windowsxp) and found it slow, choppy running it in a window from within xp. Omega01
The main reasons for me to switch to OS X: iLife - there's simply nothing like this in the PC's world RapidWeaver - a tool to create websites easily, runs on OS X only Internet security - no viruses Easy of use / elegant user interface - compared to Windows If you like playing games, I think it's better to use a PC or console for that. But for nearly anything else, OS X is the system of my choice. It simply meets my needs... aberracus
LOL , i like that! really osx is sexier and stylish and much more stable and secure, with a wonderful full eye candy interface and i love their Mac only apps (ilife, Final Cut Pro Studio, etc), i dont run Windows XP now, i playe all my games in osx without problem; and cause my video card is fully supported i can se dvds and video and everything perfectly and better than windows. Thats it, i love it I am considering buying a notebook, and now i am sure it will be a Macbook. node64
for me its just alot better workflow, like in photoshop when u use expose, and garageband and logic are must haves 4 me now. these two apps combined do almost everything i need musicly. there is no app on pc that is as simple and to the point for audio as garage band and the best thing about garageband is that wen u do all the basic recording you can open it up in logic and finnish it off. There is no solution similar on pc. I have a feeling that mac game support will either get better becuase of intel chips or dissapear becuase of bootcamp... I guess it depeds what u use the computer for. You could alwasys duel boot and set up your windows with minimum services and a minimal shell, JUST for games??
