CoHPhasor
Does anyone else have their time reset every time they boot into Windows after booting into OSX? x.x I never noticed, but my MBP does that when I use Bootcamp. :-) Regarding the 9800 GTX video... The fan on mine is running like crazy. I don't think it could blow more air if it tried. Is this normal? It does this even when sitting idle... (nothing going on, just with the Finder and desktop) Macpinhead The 9800 GTX+ Runs like a striped ape, sorry. Either you'll need to PWM it on your own, or get a different card. There might be something in the Windoze drivers that keep it turned down, but as you aren't running Windoze you are SoL. Can always put in a different card. HAVEC
Yes, Windows 7 jumps ahead 8 hours after restarting from SL. Another problem I've just noticed with a Windows 7 system in the same box as our SL hack is that Win 7 will not sleep or hibernate. Win 7 lacks the hibernate option on the start key and when manually told to sleep it wakes right up again. I guess I should be happy that SL sleeps and wakes perfectly. Anybody know why Win 7 on a separate disk doesn't like the Hackintosh environment? As I was typing this I decided to test Win 7 with a F12 boot instead of selecting the system reserved drive in the boot loader. A F12 launch of Win 7 allow the system to sleep but still no hibernate option. Something keeps waking windows up when launched from the boot loader. The time still gets set ahead by about 8 hours with the F12 boot after restarting from SL. Better for me to have a buggy windows 7 than SL. I have enough other Win 7 machines and I built this one primarily has a Hackintosh. Wowzer42
I'm running the Lifehacker right with two exceptions: a. The PCI Ethernet card is NOT needed. The onboard ethernet works just fine. b. I'm running with an ATI HD4870x2. Easy install, but had to go back to 10.6.1 as the QE/CI drivers cause 10.6.2 to panic. Runs like a dream. The PCI ethernet is needed if you want to use TimeMachine (IIRC). ironmang
I'm having a problems with netflix streaming, getting the 8152 error DRM error. I've read a bunch of different suggested solutions for different OSX systems, but wanted to see if anyone else here was able to correct this issue as I have the exact build of the lifehacker build. One thing I've read in some places, is that the network card needs to be en0, but is currently set to en1 as a result of not using the built in NIC. FYI Silverlight 3.0 is installed and I can validate videos play from the test site here: http://web.sldrm.video.msn.com/d1/sldrm.html , but when I turn on the DRM option the video does not load. Anyone have any ideas? pianoplayer
I am getting stuck on boot at "verifying DMI Pool Data" I have followed the lifehacker guide and my hardware is roughly the same, definitely same mother board. Anyone else run into this? It is pre-booting into SL install. I have yet to get that far. I am using Kingston 8GB flash drive. I have 2 identical ones tried them both. I think the hardware is OK I did boot to a windows 7 RC DVD. FYI: Thumb drive was partitioned with GUID. Also I did run the UD3PSnowLeopard package to the flash drive... Thoughts?? I used the package (several times, actually) and it never worked, so I resorted to just using the Terminal. I have a 1.5TB drive and 500GB drive. My plan was to install Win7 on the 500GB drive and SL on the 1.5..so I may just install Win7 on the 500GB drive for now while I wait for input from you folks here. Thanks in advance for any help! My audio is working well within iTunes, but I get no audio in Final Cut Express 4. I am not sure why? edit: I found it, for some reason I had to go to View / Video Out / Canvas Playback. Same thing happening to me (booting from different HD, if important) but when I connect to internet it sets it... but it sometimes resets in SL, but not always... To any and all having the time changing itself issue: Have you looked around on the internet anywhere, or are you just running in here hoping for a fix? I understand the want to have a "perfect Mac", but this isn't it. It's a hack. Beyond that, this is an issue with real Macs as well. I already mentioned that from day one using my MBP with Boot Camp to run XP I've had this problem. That's right, the Apple solution, 100% legit option does it too, for years. If you are hoping someone in the OSx86 community can come up with a fix for it, please, either find another thread in this forum already addressing it or start one. Thank you for your understanding. Olroc
Hey people, I wanted to give an update with my hack system. I am having a power issue where there is a continuous on/off sequence on bootup. I dont know whats causing it but i might have something to do with my processor being overclocked. For now I switched back to stock settings and will keep testing this. I havent checked the thread yet as there are many pages but i will and if any of you feel the need to pop in and suggest a solution then lemme know! Thanks guys Peace! lt4ryan
Just wanted to pass along a HUGE thanks to stella and Adam for this guide. My only difference was that I used an Nvidia 9500GT rather than 9800 because of cost. The installation worked beautifully, and was pretty easy, since I already have an intel Mac Mini I could use for all prep work and internet research. Tonight I just got wireless working via WG111v3 USB stick. It's not airport, but it'll do. One final note...there's something really satisfying about running the software update and seeing NO pending upgrades Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/44/#findComment-1389189 Share on other sites

leppy700m
I am having a power issue where there is a continuous on/off sequence on bootup. Double check to make sure your RAM is well seated in the motherboard. ********************************************************************** I've got a EP45-UD3P, Version 1.6 with a FD bios (supplied with the board). The NVIDIA autodetection didn't work for my 9800GT card, so I fixed that with an EFI string. I am running 10.6.2 with sound, dual monitors, fully accelerated video. The only issue I have found that "About This Mac" crashes finder, which will restart. System profiler works as expected. I saw an earlier post that an upgrade to this version of the bios caused this problem. I can confirm. His solution was to back out the BIOS update. Edit: I was able to back off to Bios version FB, and that solved the problem. EP45-UD3P, Version 1.6 with FB bios Q6600 4GB GSKILL DDR2 800 mhz memory 1TB WB Black SATA HD LG Sata DVD Nvidia 9800GT with dual monitors, Accelerated Vid Sleeps just fine Only mod from Lifehacker method is a EFI string for vid. Thanks mate that worked I also have a few niggling problems My cd/dvd drive only works when I restart my machine it seems to go to sleep after awhile. I have tried different jmicron slots and all. Also sleep seems to be a bit unreliable as the fans do not stop. One other thing is my hack can see my MBP all the time but my MBP cannot see my hack which is quite anoying and it would be great if some knowledgeable person would post a overclocking guide for us newbies This thread is a wonderful source of knowledge and there is more help here then a apple support discussion when I have trouble with my other mac Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/44/#findComment-1392175 Share on other sites

pkh540
I recently built my own hackintosh with a couple of modifications to the Lifehacker build - notably I used the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R board which has the same specs but instead it only has 1 LAN port vs. the 2 on the UD3P (didn't need 2 LAN's and if I might have to use the PCI NIC why get the the UD3P?). Bottom line, the build went smoothly and I was quite grateful for this forum as a resource - Thanks to every one! Also wanted to report that I am using an 24" HP monitor with HDMI and was able to update to SL 10.6.2 (I'd hate to jynx myself so that sound in the background is me knocking on wood!). My PNY 9800 GT has 2 X DVI and I am using a DVI:HDMI adapter on the lower port. But I do have a few questions: I intend to make this into a multiboot with Win 7 Ultimate and based on the info in the forum I am sure that too will go smoothly (just waiting to get another copy of Win 7). I have an ATI TV Wonder (HD 650PCIe Dual Tuner) card that I want to use with the Win 7 build. Any thoughts as to what will happen or if it will cause a conflict when I use SL? Is there a way to remap keys on my Logitech LX710 keyboard so I can have an "Apple/Command" key - or would I be better off getting the diNovo for Mac keyboard noted in post #952? I took a lot of photos of my build that I will eventually post on my web site. I used a USB compactflash reader to import into iPhoto and it took forever(!) to transfer (perhaps 30 minutes to upload 1.5Gb). Any thoughts? After several minutes of idle time the hackintosh stops sending a video signal to the monitor (I have sleep turned off on the monitor). When I wake it, I get snow on the monitor for a few seconds and then get a clear picture. But on occasion, I've had to turn the monitor off and on to rectify. (Based on the fact that I can run 10.6.2 on my HDMI monitor, I'm not complaining... so take it as an observation!) I'm a noob so please tell me how I can determine my CPU temps - With Win 7 there is a gadget I have on the desktop; is there something like that for SL? Where can I get it? Which leads to my final question, while InsanelyMac is an awesome site, are there other sites you folks could recommend I visit to gain more insight in the world of Apple and hackintosh's? Again, many thanks to all of those who have contributed to this forum (and a special shout out to Stella, Adam/Lifehacker, SBMac and CoHPhasor - sorry I know I left off a couple of other names but after reading 50+ pages my mind is close to capacity!). Is your USB reader USB 1.0? Was it plugged in via a hub or directly to the mac? These can affect the speed. I sometimes see the snow when my monitor wakes up and I'm using DVI. At worst case, I've had to turn the monitor on/off. That's about it. -Ed Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/187440-lifehacker-guide-with-ga-ep45-ud3p-motherboard/page/44/#findComment-1393796 Share on other sites
