I really have to agree it is only 30 euro but to say it is superior to windows is harsch.

I am writing this from windows :P

Eh, it's not harsh. I've been an MCSE since NT 4, so I use a whole bunch of Windows systems as well. But I'm finding for people who don't really know much about computers, as well as power users like myself, OS X just seems to be a better OS. It's my opinion sure, but hey I value my opinion... :P

Can i Buy only the update? this one... h**p://store.apple.com/pt/product/MAC_OS_X_SNGL?mco=MTEzOTE2MzA

Believing me or not.. i just wanted to try out the Mac OSX and know if it really works.. then i would buy if I really liked it... but since I can't make it run in my computer it's dificult for me to give money to a thing that i don't know if it will work... =/

The method is solid and does work. You can buy the Snow Leopard upgrade package, but you should really buy the box set (if you don't own Leopard already).

So this install guide will result in 100% functionality? All 8 SATA ports? Sleep?

I'm about ready to order this board, CPU and ram. I'll keep my 9800GTX.

I own 2 real Macs, and this is working just as well (only faster).

I have sleep, shutdown, restart all working. I am using the JMicron RAID in SuperSpeed mode for the OS, and have 4 other SATA drives plus a SATA DVD drive (7 of 8 total SATA ports in use).

Thanks for the reply.

I have leopard 10.5.8 installed on my current machine and will use that to create my "magic stick". So when I build my new machine with a P6T board i'll go straight to installing SL. I'll have to order a SD card to use for the magic stick. Since I can't setup the magic stick on a P6T board perhaps someone could provide me modified com.apple.Boot.plist for a 9800GTX just to make my life easier?(or whatever files I need so my card will work on first boot)

Also in the guide it says:

"Get SL retail and using Disk Utility restore it to a USB flash drive like we did when we made the EFI Magic Stick."

How big does this USB flash drive need to be to restore a SL retail copy on? I'll have to order one of these too.

Sorry peeps - I got called in on assignment but I am off today and tomorrow and have the files to revamp the guide - posting by Sunday afternoon/evening for certain.

As bamf put it - this method does work but has rarely worked with pirated copies - I WILL NOT support anyone nor give advice to ANYONE that has an illegal copy - sorry to sound harsh and I don't mean to sound rude but consider the fact that your already getting a Mac for around 1/3 the cost of one of equal value - Just BUY SL - You didn't steal the hardware did you? Why would the software be any different?

The following is just an opinion but it is my belief that the more Apple sees sales/profits from their OS and the more we support the product in that manner, the better the chances that Apple will eventually come to their senses and make it available to the masses (or at least keep it fairly simple to make work on a standard PC). It is simple economics.

Thanks again bamf for filling in for me and your contributions to the community.

Regards,

Ryan

i did steal the HW

Archer - pm me with an email or wait till tomorrow. My default EFI string in the pre-hidden EFI magic stick in the new pack will get you going straight away!

Either that or wait until tomorrow night when I officially release the pack - all you will have to do is restore the Magic Stick on a small SD/MicroSD/CF/Whatever that is at least 256MB and copy the retail disk to an 8GB flash.

Let me know...

what cpu temp's are people getting?

im 50-55 idle.

68-72 load

this temps ok?

Once the final pack is released and you recreate your magic stick your temps should go down. I am getting ~41 C idle and 78 C full load OCed to 3.6 Ghz with a cooler master Hyper N520 heatsink. The original magic stick does run a bit hot though.

Can I make it work if I buy the Upgrade or family pack even if I don't own the Leopard? What is the difference to the box set?

Yes it will technically work with the upgrade or family pack. The box set includes iLfe (which I like) and iWork (which I don't use). They will ask you at the apple store if you are currently running Leo if you try to buy the upgrade or family pack.

Thanks. I will wait. I haven't even ordered the parts yet so I still have time. I plan on doing the build next Sunday assuming I can find the time then. I still need to order a copy of SL too.

Right now i'm looking at the P6T, i7 920 and some CAS 7 6gb of Mushkin ram. A cad reader, SD card, flash drive and copy of SL. I'm also going to get a new sata dvd burner and will reuse my BD drive.

it seems that i have problem with my network

everything else work fine

sound on 1st boot etc

but my network cant access internet

it show as connected and i can login into my modem

my other computer can go online but my snow leopard cant

any help?

btw,just want to add something

make sure your magic stick is mount as "Volumes/EFI" and not "Volumes/EFI 1" or "Volumes/EFI 2"

because the mount point is not right, i stuck with magic stick restore for weeks.

ok if you garantee that it will work i will then tomorrow buy the upgrade which is cheaper.. then i will ask for help if you guys could help me.. thank you very much

As long as you follow the guide, then this will work for you. We're here if you have questions... :P

Try booting with -v -f and see if the network works. You'll have to reboot again to get sound to work (it won't work that first boot I don't think).

I first want to thank Ryan for putting out an amazing guide. If you read carefully and follow all the directions this guide works perfectly!!

Ryan's knowledge of the OS is impressive. I had the chance to chat with him and I was blown away. I am new to hackintosh but not new to the mac word and I encourage anyone to follow this guide.

Thanks again

has anyone dual booted with xp. I know we made a hackintosh to use mac os but there are a few programs that I can only get pc version of.

Dual boot

How anyone managed to dual boot snow leapard and xp with the technique. I know we made hackintoshes to run mac ox but there are a few programs that I need to run windows for.

I'm dual booting Win7, and I would suggest using a 2nd hard drive for XP if that's what you want to run.

What questions do you have?

I will use a second drive. Are you using parralels or vm ware. any tips

You won't need either if you want to dual boot. I do use VMWare Fusion as well, but that is b/c I have virtual machines I run while in OS X.

If you are going to use Fusion 2.x for something let me know and I'll help you customize your com.apple.boot.plist to make it work.

A second drive is the best way to go IMHO - I have one machine that I made a 200GB NTFS partition on my primary mac HDD but it is better just to use an additional drive. I had odd issues with Vista on ocassion not wanting to install on a GUID partitioned drive - Others

I have not used anything since I upgraded my clones or real Mac's to 10.6 - I either boot into Winblows or Mac depending on my needs (3D Studio Max, Mach 3 and Turbocad are my ONLY reasons for windows).

When I used parallels on a REAL Mac it screwed up my Vista install on two occasions so I finally just did a VM with Windows XP and a true boot to Vista for utilizing the full power of my computers.

I am personally not fond of ANY of the VM solutions but that is a matter of opinion.

On to other news - I am now testing the final files and almost done with the re-wright of the guide - I am doing all of this on site at a client location since I am testing anyway so bear with me - sorry it has taken so long for the revised guide but I have had the weekend from hell!

I would say within the next couple hours there will be the boot132, FINAL MagicStick - pre-hidden and a battery of pre-built com.apple.Boot.plist files for various cards.

I put windows on it's own drive and use the bios boot menu to select which drive to boot. On my current board I hit esc during boot and select the drive and that's that.

I have to use windows for my bluray ripping.

Why not just use the bootloader selection screen in Chameleon? Or do you have it booting in quiet mode?

I still use Windows 7 predominantly for gaming and work files. I don't think I'll be able to get rid of Windows altogether.

P.S. Hey, I'm getting a second video card (GTX 260) for backup and SLI when gaming in Windows. What will be the effect of this in Snow Leopard? Will the second card just be ignored, or will I need to physically remove it to prevent problems? I know SLI won't work in OSX.

already try -v -f but still the network cant go online T_T

i use the IONetworkingFamily.kext attached too

any other help?

You are sure you have the P6T, and not the P6T SE or P6T Deluxe? Those boards have a different network controller.

Edit: You can also try to rebuild your kext cache as described earlier in the thread using Kext Utility.

wow what a fantastic guide, thank you kind sir, what has baffled me for nights has been solved by you and it only took me a few hours to do! Everything is working (after I replaced my ATI 4850 with a GF 7900GT), I might look at the ATI later... or maybe not..... Big Thanks!
