Hi Everybody,

I installed 10.5.8 to my Hp Dv7 1245ef successfully. Everything is working just perfect except wireless card (UPDATED check this thread) and Sleep. I will try to replace my wireless card with another HP manufactured Broadcom chipset wifi. I will update this topic when i got my replacement wifi. Now i use Trendnet TEW 644UB Pen wifi.

No more talk, lets install; :thumbsup_anim:

First Part - Installation

First I downloaded iDeneb 10.5.8 Lite edition distro. ( Google is your friend! ) and burned to a DVD.

Then i booted from DVD drive. I started iDeneb installation. Don't forget to Customize your installation.

Otherwise probably it will fail!.

For HP DV7 1245ef you must choose these;

+ IDeneb Main System (Default Selected)

+ Bootloader

----- Chameleon V2

+ Kernel

--- - 9.8.0 Kernel Vanilla (Original Apple Kernel)

+ iDeneb x86 Essential Patches

--- - AppleDecrypt

--- + Apple SMBIOS Driver

------- + Apple SMBIOS Enablers

---------- - SMBIOSResolver

------- + Apple SMBIOS Patched

---------- - Apple SMBIOS 1066 Mhz

--- - Disabler

--- - DSDT Patcher

--- - Time Machine Fix

--- - OpenHaltRestart

--- + PS/2 Drivers

------- - Voodoo PS2 Controller

------- - Voodoo PS2 Trackpad (This will fix your trackpad, look System Preferences for settings)

--- - AboutThisMac Fix

--- - SystemProfiler Fix

+ Fix

--- - SD/SDHCI Drivers

--- + Drivers

------- + Audio (Voodoo HDA is working but have problems. We will fix audio after install)

------- + Chipset

---------- - AHCI SATA/IDE

------- + Network

---------- + Ethernet

------------ + Realtek

--------------- - RealtekR1000

------- + Wireless (Dont choose. Builtin Intel 5100 is not working. There is no driver right now)

--- + System Management

------- + SpeedStep

---------- - VoodooPower

------- + VoodooBatteryManager

--- + Video

------- + Nvidia

---------- + Nvidia Enablers

------------- - NVEnabler (This driver is a lifesaver, others have always problem 9600M GT)

- Cleanup

Thats It !

Start install and wait. After installation complete, you will see Restart counter.

Normally after complete it will automatically restart. But probably it will stuck on rotating loader screen.

You can manually restart.

Second Part - Fixing

If everything is correct, you will see welcome video without sound. If you want to hear sound

you can select Voodoo HDA under audio during installation. It will fix your audio but unfortunately it is not working

normal. You cannot adjust your volume level. And has some noises while playing music.

But before audio we have more serious problem!

You must download and install latest Chameleon, even if you choose V2 during installation.

Because after installation i couldn't find Extra folder. This is why we have to install chamaleon again.

I added latest Chameleon (2.0-RC2-r640) to this thread.

After installation restart your computer and VOILA! You will see Extra folder on your root volume.

Open this folder and copy com.apple.Boot.plist to your desktop. And open this file with TextEdit (default software). You will see Keys and Strings. Add these keys to end of latest string tag. You can understand structure

if you look syntax so you can copy to right place. It is easy.

<key>EHCIacquire</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>UHCIreset</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>USBBusFix</key>

<string>Yes</string>

Then save your file and quit. Then copy edited file to Extra folder and replace with old one.

This will fix your USB Mount problems. Before this operation if you plug a usb disk

to your computer it will not work.

Normally this will fix your USB problems. But for more stable system first extract and install another two kexts

with osx86Tools (added to this thread IOUSB.zip). It is easy just choose Install Kexts button.

Then choose these 2 kexts then choose your system disk. It will install, repair and emtpy cache. Then restart.

Now Lets fix our sound card; it is easy!

Extract and Install VoodooHDA.zip with osx86Tools. (I added to this thread)

This is the old version of VoodooHDA. It worked more stable with my system.

After restart Voila again, you can listen music

Last thing, if you have french keyboard, i will add french keyboard layout too.

Just install this layout to /Library/Keyboard Layouts and restart. After restart open your

System Preferences - International - Input Menu and choose frenchpc layout.

Log out log in and it will work.

I hope you like this guide.

I will update this entry if i can fix sleep problem.

And as i said before when i got my replacement wifi card, i will inform.

If you have similar HP Pavillion, you can try this method.

Here is my computer specs:

HP Pavillion DV7 1245EF

2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P7450

3 MB Level 2 cache

4096 (2 x 2048 MB)

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

500 GB (2 x 250 GB) (5400 rpm)

Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN

Intel WiFi Link 5100 (Not Working I will replace)

3D Sound Blaster Pro compatible sound 16 bit integrated

UPDATED WIFI FIX FINALLY WORKING GREAT

My Hp Dv7 1245 has Intel 5100 Wireless. But unfortunately there is no driver for this card. So i decided to change this card with another mini Pcie card. First i bought a HP Manufactured BCM4311KFBG card from ebay. But unfortunately it didn't work because of famous HP blacklist error 104.

Then i found another card from getpartsonline.com

This card is HP500 - BCM94312MCG and it has Broadcom Chipset. I changed my Intel 5100 card with this one.

Finally my Hp accepted this card. And i successfully started my Leopard. But unfortunately it didn't work immediately.

I tried to enable it with a few method like bcm43xx enabler etc. but no luck. Then i found a driver !!!

d. Just download and install. After restart you you can set from system preferences.

Here is the driver

http://rapidshare.com/files/280405923/Broadcom_802.11n.pkg

Finally, I hope you like this guide.

Thanks

Unfortunately there is no working driver for Intel 5100. 3 days a go i found a HP Broadcom 4311. I changed with Intel but no luck. Bios is blocking. There is a solution if you can change your wifi sub ID. But it is not easy, i installed Fedora linux and tried a few guide but no luck.

Yesterday i ordered another model from Hp. Seller say that it is compatible.

When i got wifi, i will try and inform you if it works.

I tried to install Snow. But no success for me too.

I will use 10.5.8 for a while.

I have HP Pavilion dv7-1250en, which is a similar comp.

I couldn't install Snow leopard. It couldn't recognize HD-s and so on.

Leopard 1.5.8 work like a charm. Really good machine for Mac OS otherwise.

With regards to SL, go here:

I put a link there to a site which gave me success booting Snow. There are issues, but its a start. And the more people who can get SL booting, the more people who can try different things out.

Hi All, I have the HP DV 7 1045eg standard DV 7 configuration. I've finally installed Snow Leopard after 2 weeks of trial and error. I am short on time at the moment but will get back really soon with the details. What I can say right now is that the boot CD, USB flash drive, and external did not work for me. I used a combination of installation procedures. The 32bit works great, still a few small tweaks to do, the 64bit side also works fine with a few more problems that I am working on, what annoys me most in 64bit is the fan noise, it seems to run continuously in high speed which is very loud and annoying. I do hope that all the HP DV 7 owners would put their heads together and begin to discuss problems and solutions for the DV 7 series Notebook. I be back soon with more details.

2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T6400

4096 (2 x 2048 MB)

NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT

17” WXGA High-Definition AG with BrightView Infinity Display (1440 x 900)

Lightscribe Super Multi DVD Writer (+/-R +/-RW) with Double Layer support

Integrated 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet LAN

Intel WiFi Link 5100

5-in-1 integrated Digital Media Reader for Secure Digital cards, MultiMedia cards, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, or xD Picture cards

4 USB 2.0

1 eSata connector

1 HDMI connector

1 IEEE 1394

HP Pavilion WebCam with Integrated Microphone

Is most of it working? My setup seems to be. The big exceptions are the (obvious) wifi, and I can't get the webcam to worked. It was fine with 10.5.8 with the IOUSB kexts, but not so much in 10.6. I'm not sure to the extent of the working ability of the card reader. But thats about all. Everything else seems to be in working order.

Let me know if you have either of the two (Webcam or Card reader) working. I've been looking for a while for how to get them going. Worst part is that the webcam worked one time 10.6 was installed, but never again afterwords.

I tried this guide on my Hp Dv7 1130el but it wouldn't boot due to the USB problem....as i was installing on an external hard drive. However I got a working install which boots in 30 secs by choosing apple smbios 667 , voodoo ps2 only and not the trackpad prefpane, usb fix, no audio, chipset ICH10 and not the AHCI SATA/IDE. I did not install the chameleon bootloader again or edit the boot.plist.com but booted directly with -v and without the ethernet plugged in. I set up the registration and then installed the IDT audio package from iDeneb 10.5.6 which got all my audio speakers and mic recognized perfectly. Rebooted again without the -v flag and hey presto!! My webcam still won't work even though it lights up. Sd card reader not working either but will try the voodoo fix on this. I have bought the 94312MCG broadcom pci wireless card which should arrive tomorrow, so i shall be trying that out instead of ethernet. Many thanks for your guide.

I tried to install Snow Leopard to my HP DV7 1245ef. No luck. I tried every method around,

but lots of problem, crash on boot etc etc.

But yesterday i tried SNOWOSX distro. System is stable ! but i have problems.

No WIFI - Ethernet and Sleep! Otherwise everything is normal.

If you want to try to fix problems, Here is my way for stable system.

- I installed from SNOWOSX dvd. In customize part, choose everything.

- When installation finished restart and boot with "-v" (without quotes) .Otherwise it will crash.

- You will see welcome video without sound.

- First install Chameleon RC2 640. Customize installation and dont install Custom Kexts!

Probably it will say failed to install at the end. Nevermind. You will see EXTRA folder on your root.

- First download nvenabler64 or 32 for snow leopard. (google is your friend) Then install with kext utility to Extra extensions folder. It is easy just copt Extensions directory from Extra folder to desktop. Then copy your kext to Extensions folder on desktop. Then drag your Extensions folder to the kext utility. It will create Extensions.mkext.

Copy both two to your extra folder. It will ask your admin pass. Then RESTART. After restart you have Hardware accelerated Nvidia 9600M GT.

- For the USB support, go to /Root/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/ then copy com.apple.Boot.plist to your desktop. Edit with texteditor. You will see Keys and Strings. Add these keys to end of latest string tag. You can understand structure. if you look syntax so you can copy to right place. It is easy.

<key>EHCIacquire</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>UHCIreset</key>

<string>Yes</string>

<key>USBBusFix</key>

<string>Yes</string>

Then Restart you have USB !

I dont have time, so i will not try to fix WIFI - LAN and Sleep for DV7 1245ef.

But if you have time please fix and share with us.

Thanks

Hello, great thread. Do you think the USB fix will work on my

HP Pavilion DV7-1196EG, too ? Would be very cool, cause it's a fast, good laptop and it got never crashed in OSX or anything, the only problem was the usb (and lan) for me..

My problem:

I can only use usb & ethernet if I connect these cables / devices BEFORE booting OSX. After / while OSX / after unplugging and re-connecting them, they aren't recognized.

Also only the left usb port works for me.

Does it really work that great for you ? I mean the usb fix(es)....

Because I just can't use my 2 on the right, only the left one (I mean yeah it's better than nothing, but,... hmm.. not that happy about this situation.

Mine is the HP Pavilion DV7-1196EG and I use the iDeneb 1.4 10.5.6.

Can I just upgrade to the official 10.5.8 through updater and then install these fixes etc. again ? Or is it not recommended ?

10.5.8 works really great on HP dv7 1250en 100% reccomending! The beast! But Snow Leopard is still the problem, at least for me. USB needs the fixed kext. I dont remember the link yet, but with this fixed kext it works fine. The only issue is Intel 5100 agn wifi driver, which is under development yet.

Hmm sounds okay.. I think I'll update later..

But do you guys have the same problem that only the left usb port works ? I did everything but my other 2 usb ports don't work.. =(

edit..

Updated it but sound doesn't really work. Every time I want to change the volume I need to go to Voodoo HDA in system settings and then after clicking on the icon there comes first 2 errors (ERROR Can't map Memory) then after changing something again there are those 2 weird errors.

How can I fix them ?

That really sucks.

Oh and my other 2 usb ports don't work, thought this could be fixed but no.. =( Any idea ?

edit:

Nearly everything works except the Wifi 5100, the sound (under 10.5.6 I used the "IDT" driver, if it works on 10.5.8 I'll install it again if I know how to uninstall this voodoo {censored}.. because IDT 100% works.. tried it under 10.5.6) and the 2 usb ports on the right side.

Any idea ?

Hello,

I didn't understand what you meant with your sentence...

But can I use the "IDT" which is on the ideneb 1.4 dvd ? Because it works 100% ! Otherwise I don't know, I mean I don't like this voodoo thing.

I can't use the media buttons for the audio in my notebook and I can't use the icon on the task bar (or whatever you call it in osx!)

And except from that I also sometimes use my laptop on my lcd through HDMI, does THAT work on voodoo ?

Or could I get a kernel panic in 10.5.8 with the IDT kext from 10.5.6 ?

Other thing, my laptop hangs sometimes... I don't have more than 3 programs open (I got the ralink driver - app, adium and safari) but sometimes it freezes a bit.. don't know why but then the audio playback from youtube hangs and it needs to stream the song again.. or anything else, like the safari is just crashing or something!

And, to be honest, did you get your 2 other usb ports to work on the right side ? Or do you have them all on the left side or what ? Are there fixes ? I really need them!

I mean my laptop is not that far away from yours and it's a DV7, too. I mean I like this laptop but there are some things which I really would like to see fixed and then everything's fine. I'll get myself a supported wifi card but the other things need to work, too.

Kind regards,

Kevin

I mean there are 2 different voodoohda package around.

One is supplied with System Preferences Pane. I think your error is related with this.

Check this link

http://forum.voodooprojects.org/index.php?topic=139.0

You are right about IDT. It was working perfectly on ideneb 1.4 !

You can try on 10.5.8 ! But be careful and backup your kexts.

Hello,

anything new ? Anybody trying in Snow Leopard ? Hmm..

I mean I'm lucky that my dualboot works (even though I don't use OSX cause it really isn't as useable and stable as windows 7 x64 is)...

But it would be great to hear from you.

Kind regards,

Kevin
