Gigabyte EP45-UD3R "perfect" setup ... (using retail disk)

Sleep works with AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement.kext and voodoopower.kext. But it takes very long before the System sleeps (like in 10.5.7)

If i select Sleep, the System goes down, Monitor goes off but it takes around two minutes till the hibernatefile is written (Drive access) and the Power finally goes off.

Is anyone else experiencing this? The system.log shows nothing.

Is anyone else getting a loud pop in their speakers before sounds? After updating to 10.5.8 I switched to the audio drivers in this driver pack, which at least with regards to the settings available seem much better than the ones i was using before, but with the old drivers i had i never had any poping, just perfect sound.

from 10.5.7 I installed 10.5.8 with a simple software update

backed up my extra folder

then installed chameleon rc2 over my chameleon rc1

removed the new extra/extensions folder and the extensions.mkext created by the chameleon rc2 installer

recopied my backed up extra/extensions folder back in place

used the gui version of the dsdt patcher with the HPET option checked, moved the dsdt.aml to the Extra folder for a cleaner Root drive

removed disabler.kext

reboot

SLEEP WORKS for me at least

woohoo

let me know if by doing the exact same thing I did you can get you sleep back

I also tried this, but all that happened was kernel panic on reboots now, and i have to use GRUB disc to boot back in.

And sleep doesn't work... :(

also, ever since 10.5.8 update my time machine will no longer backup.

How would I go about removing chameleon completely and fixing my boot, and getting time machine to work again?

Should I try a fresh install with the May 20th pack and RC2 form the get go.???

THanks,

Spen

Does anyone notice that the RealtekR1000.kext sometimes gives an unusable HWaddress of FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF on boots? This is pretty much why I removed it, but now I'm noticing that I can't seem to access my hack from my iMac for file sharing, even though it shows up on the sidebar.

Is this a known thing, or am I just doing it wrong somehow?

Hey all, have a question someone hopefully can answer. I changed my bios settings per the instructions, but when I went to boot back to Vista it would hang and reboot itself midboot. It gets to the windows load screen for about 20 seconds. I was able to get back into Vista by reverting the AHCI settings to how they were out of the box. Anyone have insight into this? I assume I need them set to AHCI for Leopard, but I definitely need to access my Vista and changing those bios settings daily seems to be a bit much.

*edit* I didn't disclose that I installed this mobo yesterday to replace another one. I probably have to do a full driver install(haven't done that yet, just installed leopard)to enable the AHCI drivers for this mobo with Vista, does that sound right? I'm at work so won't be able to try till tonight but throwing ideas off people here, thanks in advance.

try appleintelpiixata kext i am almost sure this is the kext i use for to be able to use ide mode in leopard with out the need to reinstall all my operating systems or going into the bios.

Yes! it works... followed the instructions verbatim

Sleep is working, albeit slower than 10.5.7

Well, after reading about the success here, I decided to give it one.. more.. try. SUCCESS! (it was like 10 more tries, but I digress...)

Not 100% sure what is the final thing that worked, but there was definitely a twisted combo of interaction between sleep, network, and sound.

Anyway, here is the final combination of files that worked for me.

Attached is my entire root /Extra folder - with my dsdt.aml, etc.

Extra.zip

Secondly is my changed /System/Library/Extensions files. Many things here might not need to be here, since they could or should go in the Extra folder. I found that the Realtek driver would not work from the /Extra folder, but it would from /S/L/E. Weird, and was probably a strange boot that a reboot would have fixed. But it works where it is now. :-)

S_L_E.zip

It sleeps - not the 2 minutes others have, but a few seconds longer than instant as 10.5.7 had. It wakes from sleep, and also reconnects all USB devices. I'm a happy guy. Just waiting for Snow Leopard now. :-)

Just wanted to ring in here and verify that this bug isn't an isolated issue.

I had never seen this error before (running 1 1/2 months solid until 10.5.8) until this morning. I rebooted the computer and it was fine.

One problem to report for an otherwise smooth upgrade to 10.5.8

The unsafe USB removal warning has reappeared. I find the following in the log file:

8/12/09 5:22:11 PM kernel Replacing extension "com.apple.driver.AppleUSBEHCI" with newer version (3.4.4 -> 3.4.6).

In order to force my kext from /Extra/Extensions, I updated the version number in info.plist to be 3.4.6. That forced the kext to be loaded fine. The warning message has disappeared, so has the Time machine drive.

But I see some other errors in the log:

8/12/09 7:44:32 PM kernel USBF: 149.601 AppleUSBEHCI[0x73ed000]::Found a transaction which hasn't moved in 5 seconds on bus 0xfa, timing out! (Addr: 2, EP: 0)

anyone else having issues with this kext?

As a side note, If i don't have the Time machine drive connected, the sleep is instantaneous as was with 10.5.7.

IIRC, you should always plug the USB keyboard (mine's Apple so the mouse is plugged into the keyboard) in the first USB port in the back. In other words, bottom right row and the first one on the left. Forgot where I heard that but it might help.

Thanks that seems to have worked. I'm having absolutely no problems right now with my setup.

Next will be the 10.5.8 update...

You installed Vista in IDE mode and not in AHCI mode. If you don't want to keep switching the bios settings everytime you boot the other operating system you need to get your Vista OS to AHCI. Here is a link on how to do it. It's for XP but you get the idea. I'm sure you can google a vista version for exact instructions.

http://expertester.wordpress.com/2008/07/2...hci-windows-xp/

I tried making a preinstalled vista work with AHCI but vista was super slow with file transfers and bootup.

You may be are I was better off reinstalling.

Thank you very much. Followed the instructions verbatim. I'm now on Chameleon 2.0 RC2 and sleep is now working.

On a side note, my DVD-R/W problems seemed to have disappeared. Weird. Nice to have a working box again.

Not sure what you mean in the first point - 2 hard drives installed and sleep fails?

Yes, I have 2 hard drives installed (10.5.7 + Storage partitions, 10.5.8 + Storage_backup partition), and sleep fails in 10.5.8, fine in 10.5.7

No WiFi at all, as it's a desktop with wired Ethernet.

What are you trying to figure out?

-Dan

Well I had the problem where if second drive with 10.5.x+storage was connected- sleep wouldn't work.

I have TP link TL-WN651 wifi which shows as native airport. Other users also reported sleep problems with this card...

After 10.5.8 update sleep wouldn't work so i folowed instructions on dsdt.ami and deleted disabler.kext in extra folder and now works perfectly :)

But, do I need to install disabler.kext in S/L/E folder when next update(maybe 10.5.9) comes out

?

Is anyone else getting problems with popping sounds in Cider games? It's almost like an infinite loop of sound in Warhammer online, Sims 3, and Need for Speed Carbon all give popping sounds. I used the Legacy 4outs2ins analog regualr headphone drivers and selected a Line Out "Built-in Line Output". I have tried the green, blue, and black ports on the back. How do you guys have your speakers connected? Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is the last hiccup in making this machine.

sure. i have a ps2 keyboard. i use the ps2 patch. look thru this thread. i usedthe ipc 10.5.6 install. search for ps2 kextx

But for using a retail disk, if you have a copy of the grub-dfe.iso you can extract the kext you need from it.

Look for ACPIPS2Nub.kext

No word of Snow Leopard? has anyone tested it or tried it yet on our Mobo ?

I am trying it but it is REAL shaky. Until things get sorted out and I am kernel panic free, there's no info to post. But it IS fast! I swear my startup time is less than half what it was.

I haven't had any problems with sound. My gaming is light. I've been playing Oblivion GOTY which is a cider game with no pops in the sound.

FYI, I actually connect my speakers to the front panel Headphone jack. I selected a Headphones "Built in Headphone" in System Preferences > Sound. I may be off-base, but I remember reading in the previous thread that you needed to use the headphone jack for sound output. YMMV.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try. This is actually my second build using the UD3R... but the first one is still on 10.5.6 with different audio drivers and I did select headphone jack. But it's plugged into the blue one on the back.

This one seems to be a bit different with these new audio kexts. I'll post an update when I mess with it more. It's actually my wife's gaming computer.

Sorry, this is a bit off topic, bear with me :-)

I'm reading the first post, Snow Leopard: Not Yet.

Could someone tell me what's not yet there? Is it some driver/kext that doesn't yet work with SL to gain full functionality?

Just being curious, and eager to try SL out!

Can someone explain this part of the instruction for 10.5.8

Please and Thanks.

used the gui version of the dsdt patcher with the HPET option checked, moved the dsdt.aml to the Extra folder for a cleaner Root drive

  1. Download the DSDT Patcher from pcWiz's website
  2. Open the application, make sure that the "New HPET" option is checked. Check "Apply to" and select the target volume (e.g., Macintosh HD).
  3. The utility will generate a dsdt.aml file in the root of your HDD. Move that file into the /Extra folder.

Best of luck.

I had no idea that the other ports worked. I haven't been able to get sound out of any of the back ports using the kext. If you find anything out, please post back, I'd love to be able to move the wire from the front of my case to a back audio port.
