From retail 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 (combo update) worked fine.

 

Needed to re-install (just like initial install from the retail dvd):

AppleAHCIPort.kext - drive icons

IOAHCIFamily.kext - drive icons

HDAEnabler.kext - ALC889A_1056 fix

AppleHDA.kext - ALC889A_1056 fix

 

Setup:

Gigabyte EP45-UD3P (stock BIOS) JMicro Disabled otherwise Kernel Panic

Quad Core Q9550

TWO BFG Tech 9800 GTX+ 512 with three monitors (Aquamac EFI String Way!) [no room for the fourth monitor on my desk :(]

4 Gig RAM - 4 more on the way

Chameleon-2.0-r431

Fusions - (2) XP sp3 & (1) Vista x86 Ultimate

Vista x64 Ultimate on another HDD - boots from Chameleon or Fusions as Boot Camp partition

I fell victim to my own impatience.

 

 

 

After attempting to boot once again, I was met with the same black screen I had mentioned earlier.  Fatigued and annoyed, I left the room.  When I returned over an hour later, my screen saver was active.  Hope!

 

Doing some backups and then going to install the Safari 4 beta update.  I'll wait for the black screen to subside this time...

 

Using Voodoo beta2c.  I also reverted to 10.5.5 graphics kexts in my attempts to restore the system... I'll put the 10.5.7 ones back and see how that goes.

I had ipc 10.5.6 working on ga-ep45-ud3r with q9550 and HD4870, though without audio or sleep. I figured a reformat and reinstall would be fine, so I just ran the combo update. Well, I get either still waiting for root device or a black monitor. So, I tell the bios to boot from cd, and...I get a black monitor after the apple logo? I had to -x the ipc dvd boot to get it to load. So, I am doing a fresh install on a fresh format from an ipc 10.5.6 dvd, then immediately updating to 10.5.7 with a downloaded combo update. Any suggestions for option selections on the install?

Applied 10.5.7 update to my Dell 620. Regretfully sorry I did as it stuck on reboot as soon it goes to load desktop or after it gets pass the gray boot screen.

 

My installation is from the universal 10.5.6 distro, 9.5 kernel, GMA950 video drivers. Bios set to one CPU.

 

System worked great for weeks before applying update. Now I've no clue hope to recover it and can't find my good backup drive. Oh well....

well..i tried updating my dell quad core...from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7..

first via the autoupdate..and then downloaded the combo update..

 

both times..

 

kernel panic on reboot...

 

so I'm not sure what's going on...

 

keep getting a message "still waiting on root device" when i boot via -s

Got a strange behaviour on USB...

 

Kalyway installation, vanilla kernel. Updated 10.5.6 -> 10.5.7 with combo update. Kext were saved before doing so and reapplied after upgrade.

 

Everything seems to work, except for any logical volume on USB ports: USB pens and memory cards on two different card readers.

 

They are detected on System Profiler, however nothing shows up on the Desktop, nor in Finder. :(

 

I have an Asus P5B Deluxe.

I already manage to install those USB drivers from OSX86 Tool, still no luck.

This is for a Lenovo SL500.

I've used Iatkos5i 10.5.5 without any patch, and i don't rememebr exactly if i've selected other options.

It started, i installed a patch to make sound working. Touchpad was working by default.

 

I successfully upgrade from 10.5.5 to 10.5.7 using "Combined update 10.5.7".

I've backup my audio patch of course and uplied it after patch and it worked.

I've lost also the Touchpad option on the "System configuration" menu. I installed a Touchpad program i've found somewhere and i got it again working.

 

So, afetr update no change.

I'm still working to make my screen resolution 1200x800 instead of 1200x768 for X4500 graphic card, and make my wireless card working Atheros (new model).

Try deleting the AppleHPET.kext -- I have a very similiar board and had to do that starting in 10.5.6 and 10.5.7 or some of my USB ports would stop working. Deleting it fixed the problem.

Here's my feedback after my update from 10.5.5 to 10.5.7 with comboupdate(~700Mb), on my intel core 2 duo hackintosh with EFI 9:

-saved all the necessary kexts needed for my ASUS P5Q3 Deluxe MB (LAN, sound, graphics, Sata/IDE)

-used netkas's tips to get rid of the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext as soon as the update copies it in "Extensions" folder: while sleep 1 ; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext ; done and edited "/System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1" by replacing the string Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext with dsmos.kext .

-edited Info.plist of "NVDANV50Hal.kext" to reflect my Nvidia 9600GT's dev id(0x062210de).I didn't touch anything in "com.apple.Boot.plist"'s string which I'd already inserted to enable QE/CI.

-edited Info.plist of "yukon2.kext" inside "IONetworkingFamily.kext" to reflect my Marvell Yukon-88E8056's dev id(0x436411ab).

-rebooted and everything works perfectly "out of the box" after the second automatic reboot,except sound.

NB: I didn't use any old saved kexts. If anyone patched the new "AppleHDA.kext" to make it work with my ADI AD2000B sound chip, I'll be glad to get back my sound again. The other option is to use the old patched kext, but I don't want that.

 

Here are the edited new kexts for those lazy bastards :(:

Use this instead, it works from /extra and needs vanilla AppleHDA.kext (courtesy of THe KiNG).

Hello and thanks to all who where so kind to try the update..please do not tell me I'm stupid as I already know :D I am..did the update (combo) but can only boot in the save (-x) mode

What ever I do try, the system crashes so..

WHERE is my Angel and give me the magic idea how to solve this in save mode so I can boot my ASUS dual Quad back to normal?

Thanks for your advice. Didn't know about "Extra" thing. So I dig up a bit and here's what I did:

-created '/Extra/Extensions/" folder and put your 2 kexts in it.

- typed this in Terminal:

sudo chown -R 0:0 /Extra/

sudo chmod -R 755 /Extra/

sudo kextcache -a i386 -m /Extra/Extensions.mkext /Extra/Extensions

-> got dependancy error on "HDAEnabler.kext", but cache was made.

-rebooted with -f but audio is not working ;)

What am I missing? Do I have to rename your kexts or put the vanilla "AppleHDA.kext" too in Extra/Extensions?

Ok got all back, just for some who are having the same problem:

Use OSX86Tools and Backup Extensions before you update! I did so... (not so stupid after all) :whistle: Do the update and remove the don't steel line kext.

Do the -x (save mode) if the system does not start and open again OSX86Tools and do the restore Extensions, reboot and with me all is fine now besides the About this Mac, getting wrong processor information as I have a dual Quad Intel and now its a unknown processor of 3,8Ghz.. but will try to solve this.

Sound is back, sleep is working, Internet and display, dual.

Weird. It loads for me since 10.5.6 whether in /Extra/Extensions or /Extra/Extensions.mkext. I don't have to do anything special.

After updating to 10.5.7 I'm getting a 'sound assertion' error message at boot but it's still working.

I'm using a clean AppleHDA.kext in /S/L/E. Make sure yours is clean and that you don't have any other injectors/patches for your sound residing in /S/L/E.

 

I'm using the Chameleon 2.0 RC1 bootloader.

 

After reading your post one more time..if I'm reading it right, your extensions.mkext is in the wrong place.

It should be in /Extra, not in /Extra/Extensions.

Could you back that up with some facts please, because I don't have any problems with 10.5.7 (that I didn't have with 10.5.6 :) ).

 

All four cores (q6600) are sometimes working when I just surf the internet, max two with 10.5.6. Temperature´s on the cores are higher than before too. After "wake up" from screensaver graphic´s a bit weird. Running a benchmarktest for Logic gives me only 21 tracks, used to get 26.

 

My gear:

q6600 cpu

GA EP45-DS3 mobo

two 7300gs 512mb pcie videocards (4 displays)

two Sata2 HDDs

Sata DVD

6 gig ddr2 800 mhz (shows as 667 mhz)

etc etc

 

In short words stay with the 10.5.6

Easy Update for me!

 

First I backed up my AppleHDA.kext from 10.5.6. I updated from 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 by using the combo update run from my backup drive and installed on my main drive (it lets you choose the target disc before installing). After it ran successfully I booted into my main drive and simply used Kext Helper B7 to re-install AppleHDA.kext from 10.5.6 to get my sound working again. Note that am using Chameleon 2 RC along with the Extra/Extensions folder with assorted kexts such as DSMOS and Disabler. I use EFI scripts for video. All is well so far!

 

I find it very helpful to use an old 40GB drive via USB to experiment with for each update. I can figure out the problems first this way and repair them from my main drive before I EVER update my main drive. So far I have been very successful using this method.
