Ed
We're now accepting submissions for Mac OS X compatible PC hardware components. No more struggling to search or update the Wiki. InsanelyMac is delivering what will be the most comprehensive database of Mac OS X compatible PC components on the 'net! You can submit your own reports and edits to the new OSx86 Database as of right now - submit a component report against the existing entries in our existing database, or add brand new components with your report. As always, if you've got any feedback, let us know here! JedixJarf
Can you add a section for prebuilt desktop machines? I know many people with work builds by companies like Dell or Hp, myself included. peach-os
there are still some really important soundcard manufacturers missing in your list - to name a few: Alesis,Apogee,RME,MOTU,Digidesign,Focusrite,Presonus,Mackie Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/151545-the-official-insanelymac-osx86-database-now-accepting-your-submissions/#findComment-1072150 Share on other sites
CJP2
Something's screwy here. I didn't post this topic though it does have a subheading I used on a different thread. I am in no way, shape or form to be considered someone who knows the workings of this forum or who knows much of anything beyond my own build. Still, it's a good reminder to everyone to try to help each other out and put their hardware on the database. It would have been really handy for me last year when I dove into this. drumthrasher109
The OSx86 database isn't even working right. When I'm browsing hardware, when I find a piece of hardware I want to see more info about, it just asks me if I want to submit it...what the hell? And please add "Desktop" and "Laptop" categories. Ed
@psambas and @Mammoth - sure thing, they'll be added real soon @Mammoth - hell yes we're going to have the actual details - we're open for submissions this week, and then hopefully by end of this week we'll publish all the data so everyone's got access @drumthrasher109 - perhaps it's not clear but we're open for submissions right now, so we're inviting people to give us feedback on the components we've listed, which will then get published by the end of the week as I mentioned above, and then we'll be turning our attention to desktop, laptops and also netbooks (I've got Dell Mini 9 running 10.5.6 with my own report to submit, it's definitely coming!) dr.vox
I submitted a few devices. I think 'Graphics adapters' should just be 'Graphics Cards' and 'Networking Cards' should be 'Networking Adapters'? Or both as Adapters, just to avoid any confusion. Wish I'd had this database to help me out when I first got started. About time someone started a database for this: I had to scour thousands of posts. Speaking of which, I hope it's ok, but I used HTML tags in my post to link to sources for kexts (which I encourage everyone to do, it's all fine saying 'use patched [x].kext' but it's no good if they can't find said kext). Assuming HTML will be allowed. At worst it can be edited to be included in parentheses I guess. Clap on the back to the founders of this project though, nice work guys. Master Chief
I did submit the Asus P5K Pro motherboard and Intel Q9300, but it was either rejected because I did something wrong, or because you guys are too busy to look at the submissions? Whatever it is, you should let us know how long things take (by adding a submission counter maybe?) or when (and why) they are rejected. Thanks. Ed
@lateralusman @carpet - thanks, will do! @dr.vox - good points, we are going to have basic formatting and I'll look into making the names of the categories consistent - probably just "graphics cards" @master chief - can you try again please and if you do get any errors can you report them to me (with screenshots too if it's not too much trouble) - we've not had any reports of submission failures or errors, but then that's not to say it's not happening! swinte
Great resource, thanks for the hard work! I submitted a couple of entries on items I've worked with. Any chance of integrating this with the data that PC Wiz has collected in his hardware compatibility database? Not trying to step on any toes here, but it just seems like consolidating all this compatibility information in one place would be a big win for the community. Just throwing it out there. Ik12
You know, I'm on way to make a hackintosh. And I was wondering if there could be an interface to this database. Let me explain: Users can freely add their hadware, make note about, indicate what kext to use... Maybe could it be the other way? Such as: - First step: What processor have I. - Second: What motherboard have I. - Third: What graphical card have I. - Fourth: What soundcard have I. - Fifth: What exotic hardware have I. And so on... At the end, the user have a result of what kext are indicated in the database and the user sould get to have an operational sytem. I believe it wouldn't be 100 percent operational, but it might help a lot. Or not, it's maybe better if users keeps use the good old way of searching by themself . CatZilla
I can't add my mobo to the database for some reason. The one in my sig. Wtf? It's been 3 days since I submitted it. I had similar thoughts too but I think it's just as easy — if not easier — the way it is now: it's not overly elaborate or too confusing, and the Wizard-styleinterface you suggested sounds like a lot of work for little benefit. @Ed/Admins: Also, it's been four/five days since I submitted my three and they're not in the public records yet either. I assumed it would be slow but reading over posts it sounds like you have been checking for new submissions regularly. Problems with submissions?
