almonteb
Updated a GA-EP35-DS4 and the installer crashed at 44% of the way to completion. Rebooted. Now I'm getting a kernel panic saying "No HPETs available... CPU(s) configured incorrectly\n~@..." I'm in the process of burning a leopard DVD now to try to fix this. Does anyone have any other ideas? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/126203-release-1055/#findComment-891938 Share on other sites

Guessing 'cause I pressed the reset button at the wrong time. Serves me right for being a "bleeding edge" junkie !. Exactly the same issue here mate. Just got it working well too. almonteb
Like an idiot I updated via Software Update. I'm in the process of burning a leopard disk now to boot from. I do have a Time Machine backup of my drive if it comes to this. Should this machine boot if I just remove the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext? It's possible, if your AHCI and ATA controller works without patching... Always update with pacifist for system updates !!!!!!!!!!! You can try to boot after deleting the kext via windows or leo dvd, but it's not clean because of your incompleted update, but it could work... But you should "TimeMachine" your install then do a complete update with pacifist.... Wiwi
what should i do with pacifist ? All the Kexts you've already tweaked, and the IntelPowermanagement kext... Generaly, don't install kexts you're not sure to know...All other folders (Applications, usr...) are safe. Just be "prudent" with Extensions folder... @Wiwi i dont get it under "downloads" .... the .pkg... In software update -> Go to Update menu (the second) -> "Download Only" (Not sure because here it's in french ! = the second item) -> Wait for the download to complete -> Your Download folder could be opened ! (With hte update pkg inside, but only after complete download !!!) bonjoey
do what WIWI said, just tried to install on my 2nd rig directly from ASU and halfway during installation, the "restart your computer etc. etc." showed up, then gets panic and HPET error. oh well, good thing i haven't updated my 1st rig yet, my 2nd rig is for this kind of stuff =p Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/126203-release-1055/#findComment-892052 Share on other sites
foxping
thx wiwi :-) i have it finally. but i don´t really know what to do with the mass of files in the pkg. Is it right to select "safe" files and install them alone "on default place".... sorry for my english too :-) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/126203-release-1055/#findComment-892065 Share on other sites
Wiwi
i got it :-) yes., but what to do exactly with pacifist? Close all apps Select all the things you want to update (Everything is safe but intelpowermanagement (never !!!!!) and your already modified kexts...) If you're not sure, install all the folders but the extensions one...Then try late one suspect kext by one suspect kext... then right click on selection, and select something like "install to default..." use admin privileges wait shutdown directly Boot with "-v -f" Repair autorisations (it should not work before rebooting...) Enjoy !! Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/126203-release-1055/#findComment-892071 Share on other sites
Nyphew
Hi there, Just updated to 10.5.5 using Software Update from my retail DVD install. First boot failed, then I tried using -v -f and it worked. Rebooted one more time without the -v -f parameters and it's all good. The boot is very fast. No need to apply kext again, no need to repair permissions. Enjoy !
