I can't load TONS of programs because DLL's always fail to load (the program specific DLL obviously) so I was wondering if there's a solution or if it's stuck at not being able to load DLL's? I'd like to use some basic apps that are supposed to work under Wine (Winamp, Context, etc) so if it works and I'm not doing it right please inform me xD

applications I tested so far that are working:

1-Media Player 5.1 (running awesome.. wish we had sound)

the .avi movie plays smooth even with larger screen size..

2- Original emule 1.2++ , connecting to servers, downloading.. just awesome..

3- Winamp (well no use since we have no sound, but it works)

4-Winrar, winzip (all of them working)

5- I can get Ages of empires working but it gives en error (minimum 32mb of ram required)

6- Firegraphics Xp (work with no problem)

failed ones:

1-MSN messenger...

2-Cool edit Pro

3-Dominate Game

4-Partition Magic (obviously haha)

Me and my budy working on the sound implementation.. seems like an impossible project but who knows..

How familiar are you with the various win32 audio APIs?

OS X has various APIs, a lot of legacy {censored} on both sides I'm sure. Ideally the most modern APIs from both sides would be matched, with backwards compatibility made on the dll-side.

I guess it would not work since we're trying to emulate windows drivers to work on OS X. Same as Linux,

there is no luck for such an emulation. if we could emulate windows drivers for unix/linux, that would not only solve this problem but our video driver problem as well. I guess this might be an intresting project to start.

emulating windows drivers on work on our OS X x86 :( .. seems like a dream.. we need some serious thinking to do.. Mike wake up man! :).. he is already sleeping haha...

yea, it does not ;). We need someone to compile a new version anyways the one for 10.4.1 is way outdated, i can try and get the hands of the source to a new one into the hands of someone competent enough to compile it. For me I have had no such luck. :(.

Im going to talk to someone in irc who has the source ... I think.

Ok.

Going back to the very beginning of this thread, I've attempted to recompile Wine on 10.4.4, using what i believe was the cvs revision that was used, and the patch that was referenced.

I say believe, because he didn't actually seem to put his sources anywhere.

This is exactly why we DON'T do that...and I don't recall anyone here actually getting the source tree that the topic started used to build WINE, so I'm starting off at a disadvantage. Anyway...

It doesn't build.

Nor does the WINE beta, v 0.9.7.

I *did* have "luck" getting v 0.9.6 built with a patch that was recently submitted.

It builds.

It runs the included binaries, compiled against winelib.

It *does not* run an Win32 PE binaries.

This newer patch does not appear to include many of the changes in the previous patch that was used to build a working WINE on the 10.4.1 Dev release.

Attempting to apple that patch to the .0.9.6 release of wine first was problematic; many changes were made between the July release and the final 0.9.6 pre-beta release.

So....as it stands, as of right now...

No Dice. We can get WINE built and running, but it doesn't actually run any windows binaries.

-D

There's a new version up on http://darwine.opendarwin.org// ... 0.9.7

Be sure to grab it if you want to use Darwine on your Intel Mac. I'm still waiting for mine... coming in a little less than a month now...

Have fun and be sure to post what's working and what's not for you... someone got Quake running off the CVS version of Darwine (pre 0.9.7). Maybe we can see more games runnning... like Battlefront or Matrix? I reallly want to see these running (cause I own them).

Let's hope Darwin development really picks up now... and that it gets easier because it's more like Wine now. Who knows maybe Wine will make their own branch for intel macs (non-darwine) just a simple installer that should hopefully be faster...
