  1. Just installed XP Pro... works well! I am dissapointed that it doesn't support the native resolution of my 20in iMac (1680x1050), but I'm sure they'll add that later. CPU usage seems good, but it used about 130% while it was reading from the CD during the install. I hope it's just their CDROM driver and not disk access in general. I did have a little trouble while installing XP. The first time it sort of locked up while "installing devices". The billboard continued to scroll by with all of the wonderful benefits of XP (ha) but the installation wasn't going anywhere. I restarted and used FAT32 instead of NTFS and it worked. Not sure if it had anything to do with that though. Oh, the sluggishness of the mouse is remedied a bit by choosing "Install Parallels Tools" from the VM menu. It's still not perfect though. Yeah there is. Hit the power button, then "suspend".
  2. Veery cool. This will make running the occassional windows application much more convenient. $50 is a pretty good deal if it works well.
  3. Has anyone seen any projects that will allow us to run PPC operating systems from within Mac OS X on the Intel macs (a la VirtualPC)? For software testing purposes, I need to be able to run the PPC versions of 10.3 and 10.4... preferably on my Intel mac! And like I said, I'm thinking in regards to something like VirtualPC, vmware, bochs, pearpc, etc. - Justin

  5. Try repairing the permissions w/ disk utility.
  6. whiche laptop to buy?

I've been keeping an eye out for laptops w/ the intel 915 chipset, but it's not easy, as not everyone makes the specs easy to find. I am actually interested in hearing how well the laptop works with other operating systems. It will boot windows and linux also. I'll mainly use windows at work, and OS X at home. If OS X gets to the point where it simply will not run on non-apple hardware, then I'll just go back to linux.
  7. whiche laptop to buy?

I went over the list, but like you said, I'd like to hear it from a few sources I forgot how close the switch will be from now. Unfortunately I think I'm going to have to buy something now though. I suppose I'll just get something really inexpensive and try to sell it when the new stuff comes out.
  8. I'm getting ready to purchase a sub-$1000 laptop, but haven't really made up my mind which one. It'd be a plus if it ran OS X well. Any suggestions? Justin
  9. I got mirc to work, but partypoker.net didn't work. The installer froze winehelper, and I get the following error when trying to launch it: fixme:ole:OLEPictureImpl_Load Trying to load GIF, but no support for libgif/libungif compiled in. Any ideas? Justin
  10. Possible Nforce 3 UDMA Fix

How about everyone specify which motherboard they have and what the device id is? Not all of us have windows installed and can get our device id that way.

  12. Possible Nforce 3 UDMA Fix

How do you tell whether your drive is running in UDMA mode or not, other than using benchmarks? I'm currently running on a very slow drive from an original iMac, so benchmarks aren't going to be a reliable way of telling. MSI Neo2 Platinum (Nforce 3)
  13. Total Help

That is not an error... it's just dd letting you know that it successfully wrote the image.
  14. few problems with release 1 and AMD Athlon64

Also, remove CHUDProf.kext and CHUDUtils.kext, if they exist.
  15. AMD 64 - Perfect Configuration?

Yeah, the Neo2 Platinum should work just fine... fw, usb, audio, etc. The only thing that doesn't work is the secondary NIC, but that's all good since it has two.
