Coming from using Windows daily for work (AutoCAD/Access/etc), I'm used to using "Quick Launch" or my own pull-down menu to quickly get to the app I need.

I'd love to hear how people get to their applications quickly on the Mac. There's got to be something quicker than scrolling through "Applications" in Finder, or having a dock that's bulging at the ends.

Look at LaunchBar and Butler too - both similar to Quicksilver.

You can drag the Applications folder to the right side of the dock. I keep the programs I use the most in the dock, and right click on applications for programs I don't use too often - very similar to windows, when i had quick launch and the programs menu. I suppose you could make a folder of aliases to favorite apps and put that in the dock, instead.

Ummm, the Dock?

OK, I saw the "I don't want a cluttered Dock" line. Cluttered docks are the result of poor planning. It's meant to place your most frequently used programs. Don't use iMovie? Drag it out of the Dock. etc etc etc

It's the same thing with QuickLaunch in Windows. If you don't use it, take it out of there.

Lots of options out there. While trying some of them out, I ran across DockFun! which I'm trying out now. I like having a menu at the top, with the option of changing docks when doing a number of tasks in the same catagory. It's PPC only though at the moment, and probably uses more resources than some of the other options. It seems to be working well with Desktop Manager, which Drag Thing did not.

i appreciate a unibin app, but am no longer hesitant about using PPC apps. that's the whole point of Rosetta after all. some i wouldn't want to be without.

deerpark or azureus end up using more system resources than all of my constantly running ppc apps put together, and they are unibin and intel!+

if you like Dock stuff, and you haven't already discovered VersionTracker.com , go there and do a search for "Dock". :D

also at Versiontracker.com a search for "MacIntel" will keep you up to date with all the new unibins. sort by Date and you can keep yourself busy downloading cool things forever i guess. :hysterical:
