if I were to go buy an apple keyboard (can you even do so?) would it work on my intel mac?

because I'd really like to have one, using a windows keyboard with this is sometimes hard. I have to remember that the cmd key is actually the alt key.

I just found that you can buy a bunch of different keyboards here....

I have made two small papers with symbols and taped them to the keyboard so I remember that the alt key is the command key, and that the Windows key is the alt key.

I'm not sure but I think it should be possible to plug in an Apple keyboard with some converter plug or some such device. Back in the old days Apple keyboards and mice used some weird proprietary round connector, but I'm not sure if they still do. If I'm not mistaken you can use the Mighty Mouse with a PC so maybe you can with keyboards as well.

I'm pretty sure the current apple keyboard/mice use usb, so yes they will work.

I've got a brand new Apple Pro Keyboard, 2 days old. Works perfectly with my OS X x86. Also works in XP with some key remapping software. The keyboard is USB. You also get an extension USB lead with it, just in case you find the lead from the keyboard a bit short. :) The USB hub at the back of the keyboard is really handy.

I also brought Apple Mighty Mouse. Also works perfectly on OS X x86 and XP. Also USB. Lead is a bit short, but I've got it plugged into my Apple keyboard.

Really lovely mouse and keyboard ;). Well done Apple, AGAIN!!! :D

You can use Apple keybs in mactel, it's fully compatable.

Enable Legacy USB support in bios to be able to use keyb in boot console.

If you'll use it in Windows to so know that theres no Print Screen/Scroll Lock/Pause-Break keys, and Eject key doesn't work in Win. You can grab from eBay for a low price.

(avoid of buying the old ones, original Apple USB with 80-and-something keys keyboard, as u may experience problems with it on PC)

I don't like Bluetooth mice because there are problems if nearly there is another Bluetooth mouse or even a mobile phone.

About the keyboard, how do I type "\" and "|"? I have to copy and paste from other documents to use them

What you need to know about Apple keyboard is that the alt key when hold down prints some derivative of the key symbol and alt-shift yet another derivative. So on my Danish keyboard layouy: Shift-7 is '/' and alt-shift 7 is - '\'. Likewise alt-* becomes '@' etc. On your US mapping (or whatever you have) it might be something different. But try with the alt and alt-shift combos. It's pretty easy to figure out.

My layout is Italian. I tried all the combinations but with no results

On an Microsoft Italian keyboard "\" and "|" are on the button at the left of "1", but on a Mac keyboard this button is fot "<" and ">". Maybe I should purchase an Apple keyboard

To get the Apple Pro keyboard working in XP, you need 2 programs:

First program is Sharpkeys (http://www.randyrants.com/2004/03/sharpkeys_11_of.html). Use this program to place print screen to the F14 key.

Second program is Keyboard Layout Manager(http://www.klm32.com/Download.html). Use that to remap like the @ and " keys.

Hope that helps some of you.

P.S. Restart after applying the settings in the programs. Also, I think it's Keyboard Layout Manager. After you apply the settings, you get a windows protection box popping up. Click on accept modified files(something like that).

In the old Calssic Mac OS there was a Keyboard program that showed that each key would print when combined the various keys (alt, command, shift, ctrl). It seems such a program isn't in OS X, but I'm sure theres some version on the web.

I found the answer Dark_Elf, open the International preference pane and put a checkmark next to "Keyboard Viewer" and to "Show input name in menu bar". A little flag (in your case Italian) appears next to the speaker icon on the menu bar. Click the flag and choose "Show Keyboard Viewer". By using that application you can see how to print \ etc.
