mocap
most likely they will be used in iMacs first. I bet the first mobile quads willl suck great battery so it is better to use a non-battery mobile-components-computer-system ( lol) like the iMac's as guinea pigs first. I bet Intel will use the results from the iMacs and improve the quads so they can finally rush the notebook market with quad cpus
vbetts
Talk about overkill, but hey it must be nice to have it.
Purple Puppy
Talk about overkill, but hey it must be nice to have it. Considering how many who use Macbook Pros are professionals, and some of the professionals work in 3D graphics, and how rendering speed is linearly proportional to the number of cores, it may not be overkill for them. That said, the majority of the people who buy the Macbook Pro simply because it has a graphics card will find it overkill. That is why I think that it would be wise for Apple to offer the quad core as an option whereas retaining the dual core processors for both the iMacs and the Macbook Pros. Redliner
actually the ATOM is supposed to be offerec in a Dual-core ASAP as well...that will be sweet... anyway running a Q6600 on a desktop makes me used to waiting for half-seconds...not seconds or minutes...so time can be money...it's definitely a good thing! Andy Machead
Hmmm... quad-core laptops.... does anyone else think Moore's law is gonna end soon? They hit top-clock speed so they start adding chips... where is gonna end?
Chris Mills
Hmmm... quad-core laptops.... does anyone else think Moore's law is gonna end soon? They hit top-clock speed so they start adding chips... where is gonna end? Nope, Moore's law is set to stay with us. They will change from silicon to another material soon I reckon and that will allow the expansion to continue...

dillon31292
i wonder if quantum cores would be out soon... The advancement of these architectures has absolutely nothing to do with the advancement of quantum computing really.
