Killed the IDE controller last night and converted a 3.6 gig *.MKV and an 800 meg *.AVI with handbrake without so much as a stutter. Encode times were good. 1h 45m for a 3.6 gig 2h32m blu-ray rip on two pass @ 2500kbps and then 27m on a 1h45m *.AVI. Looking great at this point.

Hey All,

I had a great install going on this motherboard with 10.5.5 with the AHCI fix and ALC889a-ICH10R fix, but now that I've updated to 10.5.6, those kexts won't work anymore, and my computer doesn't fully shut off or restart anymore. I've done some searching but haven't found too much along the lines of changes we need to make for 10.5.6... does anyone have any ideas on what updates to make?

Thanks!

just install the old patches again - or didn´t you backup before updating?

Do NOT use a PATA CD/DVD drive. If you do, you will experience random and frequent kernel panics (less frequent for me) and/or system hangs - yes the system will just freeze causing you to hard restart.

I use to have problems burning a cd/dvd. I use to have problems with installing from the CD/DVD drive itself (when I was using a PATA CD/DVD burner). Even simple copying of files off a CD would give me problems like system hangs.

ALL OF MY PROBLEMS - everything went away when I purchased a SATA CD/DVD drive and replaced the PATA CD/DVD drive. If you are having difficulties with the DS3R variant boards, just get rid of that PATA drive if you have any.

BTW, I've had no troubles with SOUND (after kext patches) and LAN (out of box it works). Sleep doesn't seem to work though, but restart and shutdown (shutdown being sometimes having to hit the power off button manually) all work.

Running Q6600 overclocked with 4GB ram.

PS - if you want to upgrade to 10.5.6 - I just d/l the 350+MB image (not the combo) and then I installed. After that, my sound doesn't work. I simply took the two kext files from my time machine backup drive and overwrote it with kext helper b7 app and sound works after the old patches were copied over.

You can use the IDE connector if you install the fixed Jmicron.kext files in the attached .zip.

but restart and shutdown (shutdown being sometimes having to hit the power off button manually) all work.

Installing the untouched AppleACPIPlatform and the OpenHaltRestart in the files attached will fix this.

I got this board working this part weekend with OSX. So far the only problems I have had is that sound didnt work and disks all show up as external. I followed the instructions on page 6 to get my sound working and it works great now. I went to page 3 and tried to install the kexts that were posted there to fix my external disk issue. Unforgently they did not work. I installed those kexts with Kext Helper. Did I install them wrong or is there something else I can do to get my drive to show up at internal?

If you are talking about my modified Info.plist then those are just that not a modified .kext, they must be manually copied in place of the ones already in the existing install so the kexthelper will not be doing anything correctly when trying to install those.

Hi Guys...

I bought an GA-EP45-DS4 and an Retail setup was working fine... i thougt... Then i found out i have some Problems with Bonjour... Other Macs... or other iTunes... could see my Shares... but i cound't see there shares... even other Macs didt show up in Finder... on the Right side.

Allsow the PC wount Shut Down or Restart the right whay. OS X goes of but PC stays on with Black screen... Only pressing the "Reset"-Butten helpes here.. every time i shutdown or restart its that problem... kind of anonoing

LAN-Ports are both working and shown up in the OS X System-Preferneces---> Netzwork but only the "first" LAN Port is shwon up as Connectet... if I Connect the second one its says "the Cable is not connectet..." there... but therse an IP-Adress given by DHCP and i can ping that adress... its working but dosent shown in OS X...

Currently im Useing this kexts:

AppleAHCIPort

AppleDecrypt

AppleSMBIOSEFI

IOAHCIFamily

OpenHaltRestart_1.0.3

Anyone can confirm or fix these Problems ?

(edited some more 24 Jan 2009 as I figure out how to make more work correctly)

Having just gotten my Hack working on this mobo, I can offer a couple of tips. I've found this to be a great inexpensive Core 2 Quad mobo for OSX86.

I started from a vanilla 10.5.4 install with boot-turbo-munky.bin, got the bare essential kexts going, then updated to current Mac OS X. I'm still tuning the kexts but so far I have only put one in /System/Library/Extensions, and that is a 3rd party Ethernet driver that doesn't conflict with Apple provided versions. The rest are in the EFI partition.

Of course you will need dsmos.kext, AppleDecrypt.kext, or equivalent. Do a search to find them. You may find one of them on the startup disk you use to install from the retail DVD.

Initially you may need to use a disabler like IntelCPUPMDisabler.kext or equivalent. Use ~pcwiz's DSDT Patcher GUI to generate a patched DSDT.aml for use with a compatible bootloader (boot-turbo-munky, PC_EFI, or Chameleon), and you can remove the disabler.

Use a plist-only kext like the LegacyAppleAHCIPort.kext described in this thread and you can use the ICH10R in SATA mode instead of IDE.

I used Superhai's VoodooPower.kext and Psystar's OpenHaltRestart_1.0.3.kext to get restart, shutdown, sleep, and multiple cores working without any pain. I also have a patched AppleACPIPlatform.kext in the EFI partition. The combination of the 3 seems to work fine. I may try removing the patched AppleACPIPlatform.kext. I had also installed someone else's shutdown fix but it's no longer needed now that I've got the previous 3 installed.

LAN sort of works out of the box, but Psystar's RealtekR1000.kext is the only way I have found to get full network functionality. It Just Works, including wake from sleep. You have to install it in /System/Library/Extensions, it won't work in the EFI partition.

I finally got the RLC889A audio codec working mostly correctly with tmongkol's "lagacy" kexts. The kexts live in the EFI partition.

When you build your EFI string, remember you need to include your graphics card, two Ethernet ports, and the audio codec.

Look for a [Guide] post in the Genius Bar once I sort out exactly what I did, and how to do it again! ;)

I successfully install the sound drivers on board Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R but before play any sound I hear a "explode song".

For example when someone try to join on msn i hear a joining song...Before hear the joining song i hear a "explo song".

Any sollution

Thank's

***Gigabyte EP45-DS3R - AUDIO FIX W/Optical in/out

Here are (2) TWO KEXT files from my system to fix your audio issues. These should enable your audio if you don't have it working yet. In the zip file contains the two kext files and the Kext Helper B7 app to install kext (so you don't have to command line chmod your permissions).

When I upgraded to 10.5.6, my audio obviously would not work. I grabbed the two kexts from my time machine backup and replaced with kext helper b7 app and it works flawlessly.

You can try this if you are having audio problems. If it doesn't work, the worse that can happen is you are back to square one.

Good luck!

Thanks for posting. I have the same motherboard. I've been working on this for a while and I have mostly the same kexts as you. From your post I learned that there are a few more things I can move to /Extra.

I've found that HDAEnabler and RealTekR1000 do away with having to use EFI strings. I only use them for the video card. I also had problems using 4GB of RAM until I installed a modified JMicronATA.kext in /System/Library/Extensions. My understanding was that there was some kind of bug in this driver. I was getting panics when I used my PATA DVD drive and more than about 3GB of RAM was in use by my system.

So I performed my upgrade from 10.5.5 to 10.5.6 last night (Retail 10.5.4 install using EFI Partition Booting, no DSDT patches since it seems it is not required yet). Of course the I had to fix the audio since that never survives an upgrade. I used the HDAEnabler.kext and AppleHDA,kext that I was using in 10.5.5 and 10.5.4. For some reason now the rear audio speaker jack does not work anymore but the front audio jack now works instead. Any ideas? I really want the rear green jack to work instead of the front green jack.

PS. I even tried using the EP45_DS3R_AudioKext mention above with the same results. The rear audio jack for the speakers (green jack) does not work. Only the front jack.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jason

Hello Everyone

I recently changed from Abit iP35Pro to this board (sig) While it has mostly been smooth sailing (except audio hiccups now solved) There are some things that need looking into.

First DSDT patch has 0 errors 3 warnings and several optimizations. 1 warning I took care of. The other 2 still unsolved

./dsdt_fixed.txt 4177: Return (One)

Warning 1099 - Statement is unreachable ^

./dsdt_fixed.txt 4310: If (LEqual (Arg2, 0x03))

Warning 1099 - Statement is unreachable ^

The txt file is attached.

I fixed manually the Power button in DSDT txt file {Device (PWRB) _HID change to _CID) now the power button sleeps the computer when that option is chosen in system preferences - energy saver. But otherwise it does not bring up the shutdown menu which is shown by ctrl+F12 as is supposed to. Since this is the EP45 thread I hope someone with better insight might shed light on this issue.

Another thing is the AHCI delay. The iSrc Bios lingers at it for about 12 seconds. The older board I had Abit iP35Pro too had AHCI and that had no delay of this sort. I am up to F10 on my current board. Moreover "Full screen logo" should actually conceal the iSrc bios drive detection screen which it does not. This is an oversight on the part of Gigabyte engineers. Should not some of us get together and convey this across to Gigabyte on their forums or someplace?

Really appreciate this. Thanks
