OSX86 on Intel P45 chipset?

The GigaByte boards should work just fine, and I even recommend them, because they use ALC889a (0x0885 as a dev-id like in real Macs) and the RealTek NIC that is known to work OOTB..

the problem with MSI is the Processor Aliases thing in the DSDT. Now, new ASUS boards (P45 based) have this thing too, so that explains why it didn't work for BiTRiP and he had to use a modified BIOS..

I still recommend GigaByte boards..

Indeed, i got it to work w/ audio, network, gfx, etc all ok, but the Systemprofiler says 'Number of Processors=0', so i need to boot up with cpus=1.

Hi, wow great job!!

and... it would be great if you guys can explain in more detail how to get it to work on a P5Q (...and/or provide the needed bios for testing).

I urgently need a solution because my ex- P5W doesn't work anymore.

Same here. Please how did you modify your bios?

I can't use Kabyl's mod-bios as mine is already modified for Vista slic-mod.

Hi there.

I dont think that matters, since you mod the ACPI AML.

I did it on my own with my MSI P45 Premium, now all 4 cores working well. And that mod is just simple :gun:

Things you need are:

- iasl Tools from Intel

- some Tool able to extract/replace parts from your BIOS (for me i used MMTOOLS, 3.19 T21fixed)

- some HEX-Editor

Steps are as follows:

1. Extract your ACPI-AML (DSDT) (uncompressed) from an original BIOS ROM File.

2. Copy the extracted ROM-Part to the folder where you installed the IASL-Compiler

3. Open your DOS-Prompt, type

 iasl -d <filename>

to decompile the DSDT. it will write an *.dsl file.

4. open the *.dsl file with some Texteditor, remove the 4 *Alias* lines

5. go back to the iasl-folder and type

 iasl -t c *.dsl

. it will compile the sources you created in step 3

6. open the resulting *.hex file with an texteditor, you just need the hex-values in each line (8 values each)

7. use your hex-editor to create an *.rom file from those hex-values

8. save the file as *.rom

9. use MMTOOLS to replace the ACPI-AML block.

10. save your BIOS & flash it. You are done!

If some of you guys need the BIOS for that P45-Board just drop me an line. Its the newest 1.1 release from today.

Have fun on your P45 Hackintosh :P

this is link to download bios http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/socket...Q-ASUS-0703.zip

many thanks

Hey, there is an problem with that BIOS. Asus didnt make an ACPI AML entry (id 10h), they put it into the SLAB (id 1Bh). So it will be too dangerous for me to modify that without an Tool.

Maybe Kabyl can help you with that?

Sorry for that!

Hi iPhoneTom,

Could the ACPI AML in other motherboards be an issue as well?

I have an Asrock 1600twinsP35 motherboard with a Q6600 in it, that I tried, and I could only get it to boot with CPUS=1, otherwise it stopped in the same place as BiTRip's P45 board. I also tried 10.4.7 versions of the ACPI and APIC kexts without any luck.

thanks for any thoughts

Asus P5Q-E here and having the same problem and here I was hopping this system would be easier to make work than my old AMD system was! :P Hopefully there will be another option besides modding the bios since it seems that wont work with the Asus mobos?

For those people with a Asus P5Q3 mobo, here is the patched version of the latest bios version (0704)

ATTENTION: This is NOT for the P5Q !!!!!(without the 3).

Click this link to download the file.

Enjoy!

Mine wasn't recognized either. I just edited the plist in AppleAHCIPort.kext.

Changed the ICH8R name to ICH10R (or make another enrty) and set IOPCIPrimairyMatch to match my VID/PID of the sata controller.
