Did date during high school (Middelbare School in Dutch), what it does help with is practicing skills to prepare you to have healthy relationships later on in life. It is not a necessity but can be helpful for the people that have a hard time making a connection with others.
People who skip the 'dating' and social interaction with the desired gender (same or opposite) altogether and stay cooped up in their rooms fused to the computer monitor/gamepad will have a harder time forming healthy relationships in later life.
Making and breaking relationships, like all things, takes practice to make perfect. But of course you always have 'naturals' who are good at it from the start....

My 2cents.

Hmm, interesting question...

Well, I had a relationship during the final year of High School, and it lasted two years... so it was worth it in my opinion.
Obviously some work out, some don't, it depends on what type of person you are... personally i'd say go for it if you want to, if you're not sure, don't.

Yes it's definitely worth it, even if for no other reason than to learn about yourself. You don't mature in relationships until you've been through a few. You don't know how to handle certain types of people or situations unless you've been there. You don't know how to deal with hurt until you've been hurt. You need all of that.

Get out from behind the computer and go socialize. Don't let it consume you, but don't spend your life behind a screen.

High-school relationships although not a necessity are important to forming social and relationship skills. High school relationships provide a learning opportunity and are useful for forming relationships later in life. Though in a high school relationship one should note it will not last forever and not to be too discouraged once it is through.

Isnt that kind of the point, to do stuff with the person you are going out with. Whether that be eating or going to dances or whatever you want. You need to do "stuff" to keep the relationship going.

better to get through the {censored} early on in life so you're prepared later...

high school relationships are fine as long as you go in knowing it will be temporary.

Of course it's worth it. You will be head over heels in love and do stupid things. Maybe even have sex for the first time. In the end, it probably won't work out. You'll think it will because you are young and naive, but it probably won't ~95% chance. In the end though, you won't regret, you'll learn and you'll be a better human being. If you don't live a little, then you're going to regret all the fun things you missed out on in your childhood.

I think all relationships are important, even middle school ones. In high school relationships you learn what to do and what not to do in future relationships as well as what you want in your next relationship. You're supposed to have to date around 13 people before you know what you want in a relationship and partner. You're not looking for your soul mate in high school; it's all about the experience. You won't get to college and be magically more mature and automatically know what to do in relationships just because you're not in high school anymore. Not only that, but high school relationships are fun; kissing is fun! :) And if nothing else, being in a relationship gives you someone to depend on when you need them. So yes, there is a point to relationships in high school, so go for it! :D

and I realize this question was years ago, so that was for people who stumble upon this in a google search like I did :D haha

I suggest try it out. It's a good experience. If you're mature and old enough you'll start laughing about how funny young kids are at dating.

It doesn't really distract you much at all and it prepares you for the future so that you don't amke the same mistakes in relationships later in life
