Bansaku
Bansaku, try the i5boot file that TonyMac posted previously in this thread. Supposively, it clears up the clock issues. I was getting a 6000 on my geekbench as well and after using that booter (amid other changes) my score jumped to 7800. Thank you so very much. That helped with all my time sync issues. WoW still hangs up the system for some odd reason but everything else now seems stable. I am going to upload the modified boot file to Netkas and see if the master can't incorporate it into the latest PC_EFI 10.5. As well I am going to upload it to Kexts.com so others can finally get SL working on their P55 systems. Long live the community! Suck my b*lls Pystar! FYI Psystar lost the latest legal round yesterday! Booyah! Sirius19
Hi all. I've been ready thread after thread and I'm learning a lot but finding more I need to learn. I have recently built my PC. Here are specs: Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4P Core i7 860 2.8 gHz 8 GB 1333 RAM Gigabyte GV-N95TD3 video card (N-vidia 9500 GT) LG BD-Combo Drive 1.5 TB Seagate I am anxious to start the OSX install but haven't decided if I'm going to wait for a vanilla install that will work on this setup or use a method that is already available. I currently own an iMac 20" late 06, a Mac Mini, and a Macbook Air. As well as a MSI wind dual booting Windows 7 and Snow Leopard 10.6.1. The Wind was a piece of cake but this looks to be a bit more involved. Anyone got this MB with the i7 going? And if so how. I tried one time using MyHack installer on a 8 GB USB drive that I restored my OSX 10.6.0 install disc onto. It wouldn't load the installer. Just rebooted. Thanks! Hi , I'd like to know too and also if there is a concern that I use another Motherboard (Asus P7p55d). Since I will be using and external card and that I won't be networking for the time being, do I have to worry more or less? I'd also like to know exactly step by step what to do in order to make everything works since I have the feeling that everyone does a little bit of what he thinks is best for his particular system. By reading all the threads I can only conclude that you are used of transforming your pc. Thanks to all and keep the great work Try Alex's method back on page 20. Just installed on mine with the same video card and motherboard as yours. where is page 20? sorry for my question if this is a silly one... rekursor
Thanks to tony for his SL feedback, I managed to install SL 10.6.2 with vanilla kernel following his hints, works quite well 32/64 bits on my GA-P55-UD3R (F2) with nVidia 8400GS Graphics. One thing though: I had to set USBBusFix=Yes in the com.apple.Boot.plist otherwise I would not boot. Also, I didn't test the USB sync yet and the sleep is not working yet. lectrcman
Try Alex's method back on page 20. Just installed on mine with the same video card and motherboard as yours. Alex mentions a choco kernel. Where do I come by this chocolate kernel? He also references a MyHack Installer and says not to use any flags ala -v. But when I do this mine just reboots. I'm going to give it another try and make sure I don't miss a step but I believe I didn't miss anything before. What boot problems were you seeing? Was it a blank screen? Can you elaborate a little more on the steps you took to get to 10.6.2? As someone else mentioned, there's quite a few different install paths described to get to 10.6.2, and I'm having issues finding the right combination for my board which is the same as you. meroy
Some folks have reported their P55 / i7 860 setup running slower than the new iMacs when comparing Geekbench scores. It's your boot file. Make sure you're using the i5boot file instead. After replacing /boot with the one from i5boot, you're scores will be higher. That's it. It's not your system. The boot file from PC EFI V10.4.1 isn't totally compatible with the new P55 boards. Use the boot file from the i5boot.zip attachment. I too have seen this. My system was reporting ~ 7,000 for the Geekbench score. After replacing the boot with i5boot, the score went up to ~ 12,000 (Geekbench 64-bit). My system is running at 3,675 MHz. I hope this helps. i5boot.zip Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/176155-new-intel-p55-mobos-core-i7-860-i5-750-cpu-lga1156/page/18/#findComment-1332450 Share on other sites

I also had a kernel panic because of CPUPowerManagement with my vanilla kernel in 10.6.2, so: I installed the (10.6 version of) Disabler.kext from my leopard partition, checked the permissions, moved all extra kexts to /System/Libraries/Extensions (to avoid conflicts with leo) and changed their color category so that I can handle them easily, changed the com.apple,Boot.plist as follows: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>-v arch=i386</string> <key>ForceHPET</key> <string>y</string> <key>ethernetbuiltin</key> <string>y</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>y</string> <key>USBBusFix</key> <string>y</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>1</string> </dict> </plist> I also had to adapt my DSDT.aml file HDEF to match ALC888 as opposed to tony's ALC888B(aka ALC887) and I have choosen a different (ALC888 3out/2in HDA) LegacyHDA.kext file you can find in this forum from the 'series of LegacyHDA' The changed HDEF definition in my DSDT.aml is as follows: Device (HDEF) { Name (_ADR, 0x001B0000) Method (_PRW, 0, NotSerialized) { Return (Package (0x02) { 0x0D, 0x05 }) } Method (_DSM, 4, NotSerialized) { Store (Package (0x08) { "codec-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x88, 0x08, 0xEC, 0x10 }, "layout-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x78, 0x03, 0x00, 0x00 }, "device-type", Buffer (0x0F) { "Realtek ALC888" }, "PinConfigurations", Buffer (0x28) { /* 0000 */ 0x50, 0x70, 0x21, 0x01, 0x40, 0x01, 0x13, 0x90, /* 0008 */ 0x20, 0x30, 0x81, 0x01, 0x41, 0x40, 0x01, 0x01, /* 0010 */ 0x30, 0xE0, 0xC5, 0x01, 0x60, 0xE0, 0x45, 0x01, /* 0018 */ 0x0F, 0x00, 0x00, 0x40, 0x0F, 0x00, 0x00, 0x40, /* 0020 */ 0x10, 0x01, 0xA0, 0x90, 0x11, 0x01, 0xA0, 0x90 } I used DSDTSE to edit the tony's DSDT (which is very close to our need) and changed HDEF and also fixed the _WAK return warning (see DSDT Hacks in DSDTSE tool) Hope this helps. vicentefoxxx
my geekbech is: SL 1.6 32bits 4762 SL 1.6.2 64bits 7461 This scores are without overclocking My Specs are: P55M-UD2 i5-750 8gb Gskill F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL Zotac 9500GT 1GB 128BIT DDR2 I also solved the problem with my video card I did what tonymacx86 wrote in his blog an I installed both NVEnabler and NVEnabler_64 an now both monitors are with the correct colors. In SL 10.6.2 reboot is not working. Edit: When I installed the 10.6.2 I removed the OpenHaltRestart Kext (I did not see it in the last list of Tonymacx86 64 bit kexts) I installed it again as Rekursor sugested and Restart ist working now. Thanks man! My clock is runing too fast even though I am booting with the special i5 boot file. Edit: I copied again de i5 boot file from tonymacx86 to my disc and it fixed the problem with the clock running very fast. If some of you have the same problem this is the way to go, I still dont understand why i had the old one i was sure that i replaced it before, any way, now is working. The only problem that is present right now is: sleep not working. Thanks to all of you!!! pbthias
On my i7 860/ASUS P7P55D Deluxe in SL 10.6 with Qoopz Voodoo kernel clock run too fast (kernel option fsb=133333333 in com.apple.boot.plist partialy corrected this problem), with modbin.432 kernel all ok. I had a p7p55d build from a friend at my place for 2 days (a week ago) so I tried a few things. The myhack installation went without problems (using the chocolate_kernel), cpu was an i5, video card gts 250. I use an RME HDSPe Multiface, driver installed and seemed to work. Onboard-audio seems to work with voodoohda, in- and outs showed in the audio-settings, had no speakers connected though. Network worked with the official driver from realtek. Had 1-2 times where I didn't have a connection, reboot fixed that. Firewire worked out of the box, I installed and used a SSL-Duende mini (DSP-Audioprocessor) without problems. Had the problem with the clock being too fast, too. That resulted in a lot of "wrong samplerate detected"-errors in Logic Pro 9. After using kernel option fsb=133000000 that didn't happen anymore. As I found out about this much too late I couldn't test Logic with the RME and the Duende anymore. But using build in audio it worked (build in audio had the samplerate errore earlier too, so it wasn't the RMEs fault). Wondering: I read about using fsb=133333333 a few times, but also read about someone saying use fsb=your_fsb_rate_IN_HERTZ . Isn't a fsb of 133MHz -> 133 000 000 Hertz? What am I missing? Had to return the system the next day so I couldn't try the 10.6.2 update. Waiting for someone to say "yip it works". In that case I'd get that board with an i7 cpu. I know the Gigabyte boards have a better reputation right now, but looking at the board layout, the asus should be much better in terms of expandibility (does that word exist? sorry, german guy ;-)) and cooling... So far: I'd really like to know more about the clock issue. And what does the i5boot file EXACTLY do? I read that this file should fix the problem too, but how? VGM10000
If anyone was wondering, I will be posting the final parts list either later today or tomorrow morning. I am seeing if composing a install guide is viable, but so far only one person has provided information Also, as noted by jhenley01 above, GB scores are posted for the iMacs, so be sure to use them as a point of comparison for your builds. For the most part people seem to be getting correct scores, although 32/64 bit and compatibility issues seem to be dragging down systems for some. osxchat
Is your wake from sleep working with the DSTD change? I've an 870 running at clock speed w/ 1600 mem sticks getting right under 10,000 on the 64bit geekbench. The only remaining problems I have with the 64bit 10.6.2 vanilla kernel are: No wake from sleep No shutdown Occasional USB mouse problems Question: Did your DSTD change fix the wake from sleep? Does your shutdown exit cleanly? Have to google the USB bus fix, I might need that. Summary of build: I5 boot (may not be needed) vanilla kernel tony's kexts added: new SMB to get core temperature diodes to report (istat) added: recompiled atheros and realtek Man these things are fast, I'm seeing at least triple the builds speeds (with make -j8) as opposed to my previous Q9550 EP45 system. I also had a kernel panic because of CPUPowerManagement with my vanilla kernel in 10.6.2, so:I installed the (10.6 version of) Disabler.kext from my leopard partition, checked the permissions, moved all extra kexts to /System/Libraries/Extensions (to avoid conflicts with leo) and changed their color category so that I can handle them easily, changed the com.apple,Boot.plist as follows: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd"> <plist version="1.0"> <dict> <key>Kernel</key> <string>mach_kernel</string> <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string>-v arch=i386</string> <key>ForceHPET</key> <string>y</string> <key>ethernetbuiltin</key> <string>y</string> <key>GraphicsEnabler</key> <string>y</string> <key>USBBusFix</key> <string>y</string> <key>Timeout</key> <string>1</string> </dict> </plist> I also had to adapt my DSDT.aml file HDEF to match ALC888 as opposed to tony's ALC888B(aka ALC887) and I have choosen a different (ALC888 3out/2in HDA) LegacyHDA.kext file you can find in this forum from the 'series of LegacyHDA' The changed HDEF definition in my DSDT.aml is as follows: Device (HDEF) { Name (_ADR, 0x001B0000) Method (_PRW, 0, NotSerialized) { Return (Package (0x02) { 0x0D, 0x05 }) } Method (_DSM, 4, NotSerialized) { Store (Package (0x08) { "codec-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x88, 0x08, 0xEC, 0x10 }, "layout-id", Buffer (0x04) { 0x78, 0x03, 0x00, 0x00 }, "device-type", Buffer (0x0F) { "Realtek ALC888" }, "PinConfigurations", Buffer (0x28) { /* 0000 */ 0x50, 0x70, 0x21, 0x01, 0x40, 0x01, 0x13, 0x90, /* 0008 */ 0x20, 0x30, 0x81, 0x01, 0x41, 0x40, 0x01, 0x01, /* 0010 */ 0x30, 0xE0, 0xC5, 0x01, 0x60, 0xE0, 0x45, 0x01, /* 0018 */ 0x0F, 0x00, 0x00, 0x40, 0x0F, 0x00, 0x00, 0x40, /* 0020 */ 0x10, 0x01, 0xA0, 0x90, 0x11, 0x01, 0xA0, 0x90 } I used DSDTSE to edit the tony's DSDT (which is very close to our need) and changed HDEF and also fixed the _WAK return warning (see DSDT Hacks in DSDTSE tool) Hope this helps. capdog
Hi tonymac, I'm trying without success to follow your installation method. I have the exact same hardware as you (except my graphics card is Asus but it's the same Geforce chip), and my memory is Kingston. I'm just battling to follow your guide, and to know exactly where to copy the files in your .zip. I know you're working on a detailed guide, but please feel free to post the rough version here as soon as it's available, as I'm ready to start building but the biggest obstacle is that I don't have a Mac at home (only at work), and thus it takes a day between trying different things, because most guides require me to use a Mac to change permissions, etc. So a specific guide would be great. What version of Chameleon is the right one? And is it necessary to install netkas? camaris
6) Install the combo update.Note: DO NOT REBOOT after the update is installed. 7) Run myHack from the USB drive and install all the default stuff on the OSX HDD. Note: DO NOT install choco kernel this time! 8) Unmount the USB, reboot, enjoy Note: Make sure that you have OSX drive having the highest boot priority in BIOS. I've successfully gotten to step 6 of Tony's post. I'm having a problem install in the combo update I can get the dmg mounted but can't figure out a way to launch the installer package from the command line. lectrcman
Want to report that 10.6.2 is running fine on a Gigabyte P55 UD4P w/ i7 CPU. Had to revert to AppleHDA 10.6.1 though. Using RealtekR1000SL.kext.zip mentioned in one of the previous post mentioned on this forum. In my /Extra folder, I have the following 2 scripts. =================== do-ee-mkext.sh (run as root) -- to refresh the mkext under Extra =================== #!/bin/ksh rm -f Extensions.mkext chown -R root:wheel /Extra/Extensions chmod -R 755 /Extra/Extensions kextcache -v 1 -t -m /Extra/Extensions.mkext /Extra/Extensions/ sync =================== do-sle-mkext.sh (run as root) -- to refresh the mkext under sle =================== #!/bin/ksh kextcache -system-caches sync =================== BTW: Gigabyte just released the final production F4 bios with iphone sync fix for the P55 UD4P motherboard. It's no longer a beta bios. Check for your Gigabyte P55 motherboard for an update. Hi Meroy, Is there anyway you can briefly tell me how you got you p55-ud4p running? I just built my box with it as the core. I have a i7 and a Nvidia 9500 based VC. I can't even get the loader to run. I have a 8 gig USB with 10.6.0 restored to it and then ran MyHack installer on it with the chocolate kernel option selected. It boots up to where it is loading and freezes on the gray screen... tonymacx86
Waiting for Tony's guide. smile.gif Just finished my last test. I decided to do 2 run throughs of the guide just to make sure that it was complete and accurate. As I was writing I decided to do a detailed guide for Leopard as well. So there are 2 guides, one to get Leopard running, then one to get Snow Leopard running. OS X Leopard Install Guide For P55 Motherboards and Intel Core i5 and i7 http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2009/11/os-...de-for-p55.html OS X Snow Leopard Install using Retail DVD For P55 Motherboards and Intel Core i5 and i7 http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2009/11/os-...ing-retail.html Good luck, and be sure to let me know any way I can improve them! capdog
Awesome, thanks! This is so brilliant I really appreciate it! I have comments for you: Your guide actually requires 2 hard drives. One for the Leopard install and one for the Snow Leopard install. Also, if you have an actual Mac, but it's any one of iMac, Macbook or Mac Mini, you won't be able to prepare the Snow Leopard drive in Step 4 without an external drive enclosure...? Now it just so happens that I have two hard drives, so I'll have to go with installing Leopard first. The only hitch is that I don't have a DVD drive, so I'll have to install iAtkos from USB. Which means I'll have to use the iMac at work it prepare the drive (probably). Think I'll pop out and get a DVD burner. capdog
Tonymac: Do you know if it's possible to install Chameleon and copy the files (Step 7 & Step 8) by booting back into the installer? Or even booting a live linux distro? So I would install to the hard drive, then reboot back into the installer, then copy over the hard drive's kernel & other files, install chameleon to the hard drive, then reboot? That would mean I don't have to get an external drive enclosure or a DVD drive. EDIT: Your guide also says: "You must generate these caches and set permissions on InstallDrive using Terminal or the install will fail." But there aren't any commands that look like they're doing this. The commands just copy files around. profdre
At first: Thank you very much for this deailed guide. I'm just preparing everything for an install on my Gigabyte GA-P55-UD4. I have two questions left: 1. I want to use a Radeon HD 4890 (Sapphire Vapor-X, rather silent ) Can I use your guide, though, just with another kext? (I think from netkas) 2. How do I have to partition if I want to use Windows 7 on the same drive I just partitioned for Snow Leopard? Will GUID work for Windows 7? If not, can I create a little partition for OS X and a big one for data (but then it has to be FAT 32 to use it with both OSes )? So I just would pop in my old Raptor drive if I want to install Windows 7... Thanks in advance, profdre Just finished my last test. laatmaarzien
TonyMacx86, Does the DSDT not work for Audio/Video for the board? I see that you used the NVEnabler.kext for the video - any specific reason for this? Also, since you mention that you copied back the AppleHDA from 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 - and that VoodooHDA doesn't map ins and outs directly for the UD2 motherboard... Could you kindly elaborate a wee bit on that? Cheers Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/176155-new-intel-p55-mobos-core-i7-860-i5-750-cpu-lga1156/page/18/#findComment-1333796 Share on other sites
