One of our own members, DAddYE, has made a short guide about how to get the order that the Finder puts files in. Normally, if you had a .zip file, a folder, and a .png, all with the same name, it would go in that order stated above. He has written a short guide about how to change the order of which the Finder displays items, which allows folders to go before anything else.

About time Finder got this feature.. DAddYE did a great job :(

I followed DAddYE's instructions, then changed the InfoPlist.strings file back to the original settings, but Finder did not revert. Not that this is a bad thing. Now Finder says "Folder" instead of "~Folder" plus it's organized how I prefer. Did anyone else try this?

EDIT: Nevermind, the settings only remained for this one folder only.

1) why does it matter?

2) don't you think apps such as spotlight make this completely unecessary?

It was a fluke. Only that one folder remained organized in the new way. I don't know why though.

You have to select Arrange By Kind in View Options and select set as defaults.

Yeah, I know that. Thanks. That post was in reference to my previous post in this thread. After I changed the Kind from "~Folder" back to "Folder" the settings remained in Finder for just the one Folder in the picture shown above. See how the Folders are still at the top even though the Kind is "Folder". I hope that makes sense. Sorry for the confusion.

Not quite what I was expecting.

I want to be able to keep files sorted by name (independent of kind) but have the folders appear first. That is the way I like it, and it is what Windows and Linux do by default.

Isn't that because "Folder" in the alphabetical order is before "P" and "Z" ?

Put an "Adobe ..." file in there, your folders will not be on top anymore.

Totally agree with you. That's the ONLY thing I miss in OSX and what annoys me.

I just want to have folders first, in alphabetical order, then the file in alphabetical order, no matter what kind.

Not any Hackintosh genius/developer that can make it? PLzzzzzzzzzzz

Would be great!

That would be great, but I dont think Steve Jobs is gonna take the opinions of a few thousand people and actually provide an option.

Nice, but I actually prefer without this setting, because the alphabetical order makes it easy for everyone!

P.S. to all computer companies, I would like it if the size of all files in the folder, hidden or not showed up on the size field. I mean, it's really stupid when you're cleaning up your computer...
