I don't know about you, but I won't be attending Apple's Media event today, so I'll be relying on live coverage from various sites. It is held in Cupertino, California at 10am Pacific time (that's 6pm BST, for us in the UK).

The following sites will be providing live coverage:

Gizmodo

Engadget

SlashGear

MacObserver

Stuff.TV

Or you could download this little universal app, that will launch all the useful links for you. (thanks mac-mini!)

The rumors flying around at the moment include new iMacs with aluminum enclosures, iLife and iWork '08, and a .Mac update. There is also rumors of a 16gb flash based iPod with video playback support.

Perhaps this is a good time to finish your bingo card from WWDC!

Time to place your bets on this event's "one more thing"! :D

9:54AM: Ok, we're in, and seated. There's definitely a large object under a black cloak up on stage, it's either a big display (mabe a 30-inch or larger?), or an iMac. We don't see any other products up there.

USB 2.0, Firewire 400, Fireiwre 800. Slot load superdrive. iSight camera and microphone. Can add memory with just one screw. New iMac will come in two sizes: 20-inch display, and 24-inch display. dsc_1309.jpg:D10:12AM: "Want to see our new ad?" New iMac ad plays. iMacs rotating slowly, and that's about it.10:14AM: Note that the Mac mini is still pictured as part of Apple's product line. "Alright, next thing is applications that run on the Mac. Apple invented category of digital lifestyle applications. Computer is the hub of digital life. We've increased our lead over the PC industry. Introducing iLife '08. Totally new, biggest jump since we introduced it. iPhoto, iMovie, iWeb, iDVD and GarageBand. We're replacing one of the apps with something that takes it to a new level."

Disappointed with the ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro. It's not as good as nVidia's finest. Hopefully there'll be upgrade options when it comes to ordering. The new iMac and keyboard design don't look all that bad and iLife '08 certainly will be a huge improvement over '06. I wonder what else Steve has up his sleeve for the rest of the event? :D

But the Radeon HDs are better for Media centers, right?

Xenctuary

Of course, but even the GPUs in the current iMacs perform great in a media center environment.

The 2600Pro makes a lot of sense for iMacs. You wouldn't want the "finest" of either Nvidia or ATI in there. 2600Pro is passive cooled, the 2900 and all of the 8800s all create way more heat than that. You'd need a leaf blower on an iMac or water-cooled or a huge heatpipe assembly sticking out the back or something silly like that.

Seems like the performance of the 2600 Pro is pretty average. Gets ass kicked by the 8600GT's in most tests, but manages to give equivalent performance in other games.

Why STEVE Why, why did you cripple the iMacs? Would a 2900XT been that bad?
