Rufus T. Firefly
Plain and simple. I know there are other apps that handle documents and what not (openOffice). I just stuck to the two biggest names. SticMAC™
When I switched to Mac i used OpenOffice first, if it's setup correctly its possible to use it with other PC users with no major issues! When Office 2008 came out I got a Beta version with no time limit and it is still going strong! WOW, what a cool package! just don't do updates it wrecks it totally! SticMAC™
So far no problem..... I've done some work for a company in Basel and the still use office 2000 and even embedding XLS or DOC's in powerpoint goes smoothly! Just realised that when I use cool buttons on my graphs or 3D bars they can edit them on their side as they see them as pictures, but that keep me working! SticMAN Thanks for the heads up. JSn1™
With iWork you can export to Word, PowerPoint, Excel, PDF, pictures, Quicktime, Flash, Web, iPod. I don't see the compatibility troubles you mention. CrusaderFred
I have a question about IWork. I haven't found a place to post it. I remain with Iwork06. I used Pages as a substitute to Quark to creake a book-length document for self publishing at Amazon's semi-new free CreateSpace. The manuscript itself, not cover, must be in all black and white. My masterpiece has many photos I created in Photoshop and converted to grayscale. I started off with the blank document of Pages, not any of the templates. It does have a yellow square around it. Even though I put in only gray scale images, they seem to come out as RGB color, even though they are black and white in appearance. I cannot find any sort of color control in Pages. Is there anyway to convert this document into grayscale, balckand white, in one full scoop? Thanks. Email me directly pls if possible: crudaderfred@gmial.com. DJChee
I use both iWork 08 and Office 08.. iWork for the simplicity of its word processor, but Office 08 for its Excel and Powerpoint. apowerr
I have both installed but I use Office 2008 for everything. Office 2007 for Windows is the best in my opinion, I wish the 2008 version for Mac was a better port . Berzerker
I use Office 2008 because iWork '08 doesn't have nearly the same amount of functionality as Office, especially when it comes to Word and PowerPoint. ulyanov77
I used OpenOffice until I grabbed Office 2008. 2008 made leaps and bounds over 2004 (the reason I used OpenOffice). I love Office for Mac and feel no need to change --though I've never used iWork. The Xeon Quad Man
Office 2007 in Vista, which I have found to work very well, and it's a huge improvement over 2003. The UI improvements are very nice as well. I have not yet used an office program in OS X, but I would probally stick with MS Office, if I where to get an office program for OS X. believable
Ok let's see. My answer is both. Numbers vs Excel Excel wins that battle just because it's more powerful. Also the Mac version of Excel is weak, I usually virtualize and use Excel 2007 because of it's support for Macros. Pages vs Word Pages wins it, just by ease of use, and GREAT THEMES. Keynote vs Powerpoint Keynote EASILY wins this battle. Entourage vs Outlook vs Mail So this is basically a battle, and comes down to preferences and what you prefer. I personally use Thunderbird as my personal client, and I use Outlook 2007 inside XP to use with my exchange server. Then you have Microsoft OneNote, one of my most favorite apps of ALL time, completely uncontested on the Mac front. Don't let anyone fool you, there is no equivalent on the Mac (Yojimbo, CircusPonies,Word in Notebook view, none come close). So I personally use Pages and Keynote in iWork, and then on my virtualized os (XP), I use OneNote, Excel, and Outlook.
