rudeboymcc
Hi. Just installed Leopard 10.5.2 kalyway vanilla. os is fine, and nice if i'm just doing e-mail and internet stuff. but then i tried to make a slideshow dvd using imovie and idvd. of course my expectations were high becuase everyone had said that "it just works" and i'd heard it never crashes. making it in imovie takes absoultely ages (like half an hour to apply ken burns effect to 300 photos). then idvd would never finish encoding the movie. every time starting from the beginning, (takes half an hour), the 5th time worked when i had nothing else running in the background. it just seems that applications (and these are apple applications) keep crashing left right and centre and it's difficult for mme to carry on using os x when i know vista will run without crashing (yep i said it). i don't; want this to be a vista vs leopard thing. just does anyone have any ideas why things aren't as smooth as they should be? Rufus T. Firefly
Uh, this forum is not for OSX86. I love OS X on my MacBook Pro. Hence it's an actual Apple Computer Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/97159-anyone-else-dissapointed-with-osx/#findComment-693982 Share on other sites
S.SubZero
As Rufus said, this isn't an OSX86 forum. To not leave you in the dark completely though, I'll run this by you: You're on a Hack, running an OS that is not designed for your hardware. We don't know your specs, so we don't know how 'off' you are from standard Apple hardware. If you are relying on hacked kexts and kernels to get into OS X at all, you're not running OS X the way Apple made it. So you can't necessarily blame OS X for your problems. For the record, my Hack, running on 'somewhat' Mac-like specs, has run for several days without any issues whatsoever, doing a variety of tasks. It's never kernel panic'd, never crashed. VLC has hung on me once or twice, but that's not unexpected. I don't push the Hack too hard really, but if it did crash I wouldn't be overly amazed. In fact I was so happy with OS X, I bought a Macbook Pro. DAMN YOU HACKINTOSH! 8) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/97159-anyone-else-dissapointed-with-osx/#findComment-694068 Share on other sites
idividebyzero
the biggest thing Im disapointed with is they havent gotten rid of that god awful aqua {censored} yet. Its been almost 10 years since that was considered cool. They have the buttons and scroll bars made already to get rid of it once and for all but still choose to be lazy. rudeboymcc
The reason i'm posting in the osx forum adn not osx86 is becuase my laptop was almost 100% compatible. I installed a vanilla Leopard on it, and the only thing i had trouble getting to work was sound. that works fine now, and everything else seems good (apart from power management). these problems are not to do with incompatibility with my vaio, it's the software because when i search for it in google there are tonnes of other people (not in an osx86 forum) with exactly the same problems. specs are: intel c2d t5500 (1.6ghz) 2gig ram 200gig hard disk, so well within the recommended specs. I don't see how it can be any different on an intel mac (but i've never tried it so hopefully i'm wrong). otherwise steve job's doing a great job in advertising when in reality vista is perfect for me. justin2007
compare your benchmarks against other similarly spec'd hackintoshs or real macs. if they're not close then try and find out why. lot's of discussions surrounding performance in the hackintosh forums.
