thought i should post, I have a complete perfect working installation now thanks to this release :P

specs are in my sig

thanks myst

Welcome on the bus!

Mysticus: Did you try Kalyway 10.5.2 out? For some reason, I cannot get my Realtek 8139 card working with any driver. But I never have this problem when I use iATKOS... I wonder if there is some substancial difference between the two causing my card to not work.

i did try, and post a report with screen shot... also I dont like the driver in that kalyway release, so I changed mine back to original one that i used in iatkos. the driver is inside my update package as well, if i m not wrong. all you need to do is, remove 3 files and install the rtl8139 driver from the package...

1st file: system/library/extensions/IONetworkFamily.kext/Contents/Plugins/AppleRTL8139Ethernet.kext this is the driver

2nd file: system/library/Extensions.mkext this is driver cache/backup

3rd file: system/library/extensions/caches/com.* this is another cache file for fast booting

install only the rtl8139 driver from my package, nothing else, if you look at my update package's folder, you will find the 8139 installer...

install it now

reboot

boot with -v -f for this time only so everything is refreshed...

@urgonah8me: welcome aboard on the bus :P

First off, Mysticus you are most appreciated. Thanks very much for helping all of us out. Now to the point. I have an older Dell Inspiron 5100 that I've been trying to install Leopard on. I tried iAtkos 10.5.1 r1 and r2, and Kalway 10.5.1 and couldn't even run the installer. I eneded up loading Jas 10.4.8, but I need Leopard to run ZFS. So I'm hoping your patch will work. According to the hardware profile on the OSx86project page, someone did get this running on a Dell Inspiron 5100.

I patched iAtkos 10.5.1 r2 using both patch files Equate + BadBios using your guide. I booted and got to the installer (first time for Leopard). I selected the SSE2 kernel and temp monitor, no other patches or drivers. I partitioned the entire drive MBR with HFS+ using Disk util. Then installed. The installer starts, I skip the DVD check, and after getting about 5% into the install percentage bar it pretty much stops. I let it sit for awhile and then I get a giant triangle on the screen saying the installer could not validate the 10.5.1 disc contents and that the install has failed. When I burned the DVD, I verified it against the ISO and I checked the ISO's MD5, before and after both patches.

Any ideas? I suspect it has to do with only having 512 MB of RAM. But I can't say. This particular computer has no bios settings that can be altered (with the exception of boot order).

Specs:

Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop

OS : iAtkos 1.0i R3 10.5.1 + BadBios

Mobo : DELL 09u808

Chipset : Intel i845PE rev. B1

Southbridge : Intel 82801DB(ICH4)

Cpu : Intel Pentium 4 Northwood 2.4GHz, MMX SSE SSE2 (no SSE3)

Ram : 2 x 256 MB = 512 MB

HDD : 30 GB (full partition MBR)

DVD/CD-RW : QSI SBW-242

VGA : ATI Mobility Radeon 7500C 32 MB

Sound : SigmaTel C-Major Audio

Lan : Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller

USB Ports : 2 x USB 2.0 (Intel 82801DB DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller 24CD)

Thanks for that! I've had to reinstall onto another hard disk, as my 250gb drive is going into another machine. So I installed Kalyway again, and unselected the 8139. Then when I was installed, my RTL8139 card worked without anything, but I then installed the driver from your pack and it's still working! Thanks for the information!

mysticus - i thought about what you said and took the plunge. I wiped he hd and tried to boot up the iatkos dvd.

I get the exact same results. Nothing is different from thescreenshots i posted before. Now i know it is definitely my hw.

I tried updating my crappy bios to a newer or modded version, but the asus ez flash tool wont let me upgrade, saying the file i want to upgrade to is older than the version i have on my bios. Basically it thinks im trying to doengrade. So theres no real option with the bios.

If you have any other uggestions, Im all ears.

ps i thought about doing an install on a usb drive, but even when i deactivate my internal hd in the bios and just have the usb drivr plugged in, the dvd still wont boot.

@sky99: this topic is for nforce chipsets only? did you read the title at all? for your system, check wiki for how they installed it, or search the forums...

@flibblesan: i hope you are not using two drivers...

@parm289: i would suggest you to borrow another dvdrom first and try that way (if you checked your iso's md5 correctly and burned at 4x or less speed) and next try new hdd? nothing i can think of, since it is dvdrom or hdd error... my guess would be dvdrom... either it doesnt work well, or dvd media u used is not good quality... it can very well be the hdd as well, but dvdrom is cheaper and easier to try since you can borrow someone's dvd rom for a while (30mins for this work)

I have an XFX 680i LT SLI mobo. I got iAtkos 1.0i R3 and updated to 10.5.2 just fine. I do not know how to get the proper driver for this motherboard so I can get my network working. I need a nudge, and I did some searching but when it comes to drivers for this mobo I am having a problem finding how to approach this. Once I get that working I am confident I can get the video card working properly etc.. I will follow post#2 for the video card issue, just need help on the network.

Thanks

Mysticus,

Thanks for your quick response. I have read this thread (including the title ;) ), nearly all 55 pages. I posted here because I thought you or someone else might be able to shed some light on this problem (or had seen it before). I realize this topic is for nforce chipsets and not a general forum. However, I've not been able to locate a forum specific to my chipset and deals with the iAtkos r3 + BadBios install.

If the OSx86project HCL had any more info on how that install went, I'd have read it, tried it, re-read it (believe me).

The issue I'm facing seems to have more to do with the installer (which you seem to have a lot of experience with) than with what chipset I have.

Any help you would offer would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt

have you read the post#2 carefully? there is a title named "frequently reported common problems" you shoudl see an answer to your network problem over there...

you can get your video card working easy with 10.5.2 update package i made. if you already installed it? all you need to do is to go to the folder you extracted files and find the file named nvinject320.pkg for your gfx card to be recognized...

@skyy99: this is one off message to you please do not post help subjects on this topic regarding your hardware (it will confuse some newbies, and may cause them to do wrong things, thinking everything posted here must be related to nforce), I dont have experience on your system, therefore I will give you advices based on assumptions which may work or not.

+ you checked you iso's md5? correct?, burn the iso at 4x or less speed, lesser the better for reliability!

+ since it can boot up to the installer screen, it is either something wrong with your dvd drive that cannot read good, or dvd media you are using is {censored} quality or you burned the image a bit too fast which made it unreadable or your dvd drive has very low level quality of error correcting /reading...

+ if you think above two options were not an issue? try this

before you go to installation program, go to disk utility and repartition your hdd

++ volumes scheme: 3 partitions

++ options: master boot record

+ click on each partition one by one, and change the title from "untitled 1" 2,3 to leo1 leo2 and share

+ while changing each name, change the size of leo1 and leo2 to 30 gb and leave the share as it is..

+ and make sure leo1 and leo2 is mac os extended journaled and share is dos (fat32) partition format

+ and finally click apply button and let it finish...

+ once finished, close the window, and continue to install screen and go to customize window

+ in custom window, must-have selections will be pretty much same, except kernel== do not choose any nforce kernel== only sse2 sse3 kernel!

+ for drivers, it your choice, and dont ask me any help about them as I have no clue about the hardwares you have and their compatibility? with osx...

the guide is to allow you install osx! not run it perfect? bcoz drivers are the main issues on any osx installation. so it is up to you to search and find related drivers and issues related to it!

My best suggestion for you is dont go for leopard at all... get Jas 10.4.8, or at best go for 10.4.10 Mac Nub version... you may have better chance of getting more things to work, since leo will demand more hardware power and newer driver... you have an old pc and therefore it is harder for you to try leo comfortably....

good luck!

@flibblesan: i hope you are not using two drivers...

Nope, I'm only using PCGenRTL8139Ethernet.kext and that's the only 8139 kext I have installed.

well, the driver in my packages is the same driver, so when you install the driver from my package, you are only replacing the same driver... :D

Oh, because Kalyway installed AppleRTL8139 which I removed.

Now I've got a weird problem. I was downloading a file, and my mouse stopped moving. I could left click and right click, but the pointer wouldn't move. I'm not sure what would have caused this. I'm going to see if it happens again.

edit: system.log has weird errors like this:

if you want help read the post#1 and specially post#2!!!! while you are reading post#2 pay special attention to colorized message at the very beginning!!! i started to hate NOOBs, my guide is mainly written for newbies! noobs pls stay away if you dont know how to read damn 2 posts!!!!

@flibblesan: when you installed the kalyway 10.5.2 did you check your system kext version and kernel version? do they match? bcoz if you chosed sleep kernel 9.2 or any 9.2 kernel system kext will not match! bcoz 9.2.2 system kext is being installed, so you have two choices. one to install a 9.2.2 kernel or copy back system.kext from 9.2... which is included in kalway 10.5.2 update package as single file or inside my update package as an installer...

bcoz you have most likely a usb mouse? which causes trouble when you dont match kernel/system version... good luck...

Mysticus - you say in post 2 that if the hd isnt supported, it takes 2 installs or injecting an edited kext to fix the problem. I have one dvd-r left, so I'd be glad to try injecting an edited kext.

Only prpblem with that is i no longer have a woring windows install, so i dont know how to find the hd device and vendor id. I do have a working ubuntu gutsy install, so i can poke around in that to try to find the info. Also, since my xp install is blown away, Id have to inject the kext from linux (i dont know if you can tell me how to do that).

Thanks for your help.

Hey Mysticus,

I wanted to say that I read Post#2 ten times before i posted. I think there was a communication breakdown because you say getting onboard NIC to work is a dream. Where I am from that means, piece of cake, too easy, etc. Then you go on about previous drivers, realtek and wireless which has nothing to do with my onboard nic.

I will have to say that I believe "dream" means that it is not likely to work now from your past. Makes sense to me now but that slang where I am from has a different meaning.

Video is up and running and is gorgeous. I have an old linksys nc100 pci card that I tried for the network but I don't think that is even getting seen since I do not see it listed in hardware. Unlike the onboard NIC, this card actually has link activity. Weird but oh well. I will keep lurking. Sorry for the communication breakdown, but don't assume that your words are clear, even on Post#2, when even in context slang is meant differently in different parts of the world. Great job with the tutorial. Later!

communication break down happens when you translate it to your own language and trying to understand from the point of your mother language... in english slang way of saying was to it will not work without problem... it is in my signature, many of my posts and all over the place as well... you just jumped on the bus, and saying the words are not clear? it will not be clear to you until you get more familiar with all the stuffs you are doing... if these efforts were not put into words here, and the r3 project didnt existed and got popular, you would be probably straggling with technical terms to understand and not even close to installing all these at least not in 10 mins and without sweating and screaming out loud on the forums asking for HELP HELP HELP?

You must read the post#1 as well, to understand what i mean all in all... But if my words are not clear to you, check around for easy install guides to see how many of them are actually are really easy? and understable, I advice you to read around first before you talk like that... but let me express this quote from my first post in the introduction part if you didnt read it already?, because many people dont read things carefully...

"...New people come and go everyday to the scene, but not all of them are very successful. Why? Because they are noobs, they are stupid. Why start too harsh? Well I didnt start harsh actually, check the title? It says "newbie", i would say NOOB, but I didnt. Because some people are clever, although they are new to the stuffs. They first read what is said before they jump to conclusion..."

"...POST#2 is very important for all newbies, and must be read and understood before jumping to installation. Read it carefully couple of times! When you are confident enough, continue to installations/updates..."

I dont like the term noob, thats why i use newbie... the main difference between noobs and newbies is in the top two quotes... both from post#1

why i write this much stuff? I like to help, and i care to help... but many times cant stand people's stupidity and become harsh which i dont like to be... I was once a newbie and know how it feels like, but also know the difference between clever or stupid as well...

@parm: the guide on post#2 clearly states that nforce itself is troublesome... and i adviced in the guide that keep a seperate ide hdd and dvdrom in handy distance... if you are not reading what i keep saying, dont bother trying... if you are scared to waste a dvd and unable to install a damn windows on your system quickly, dont bother at all... just get a damn ide dvdrom and try else, no more help goin your way...

Thanks for all the help.

@parm: your welcome, my advice to you is to read everything carefully, and have positive forward attitude! you cant run or jump high before you can even learn to crawl and walk... I can guarantee you, that osx can be installed and run ok on your mobo, it is just your negative attitude of being scared of doing things... experienced people can also make mistakes, but they learn from it... thats how experience develops... i m here to help any newbie thats clever/brave enough to try things and not afraid to spend couple of bucks to learn good knowledge... also hate the noobs who doesnt read couple of lines in my guides or any guides around, and jumps to last pages and ask for help, and do not have any clue about his/her hardware in the first place... good luck in your quest...

@darozas: i dont know what is that for ;) but your welcome... also note that if you are planning to ask questions about your nforce chipset mobo with intel cpu on it, make sure you read post#1 and 2 carefully, esp, post#2 the rainbow colored message at the beginning of that post...

Updating this forum since i have an nforce chipset.

I got 10.5.2 to install, but getting the onboard NIC and a PCI ethernet card to work was a nightmare. :thumbsup_anim:

To remedy: Check /System/Library/Extensions for AppleUSBGigEthernet.kext. If this is not there, search google for a driver named USBAx8817x.kext ....

Now you should go to the Networking and LAN forum here and look around for the advice in USB to Ethernet adapters. I went out and purchased for $29 the MacBook AIR USB to Ethernet adapter.

Use the install instructions for drivers and setting up a tail etc to watch the kextload. After kextload command, plug the adapter in the USB slot and you will have internet.

It's the final fix to my system. Thanks again Mysticus for getting all of us with Nforce in the right direction.

Mysticus,

I just wanted to thank you for your suggestions. I posted my details on the OSX85 Hardware page here in case anyone happens to find this in a search.

I really just needed someone to suggest that the "error validating install" triangle error screen was the result of a bad DVD burn. Once I re-burned and fiddled with the install options is was smooth sailing.

The BadBios patch is the only patch that allowed Leopard to be installed on my setup. So while this is an NForce chipset topic, it also turned out to be 1 of the 2 topics dealing with Equate's "r3" patches. But, again sorry to have intruded.

Gracias por todo.

Matt
