hi there so ive followed you guide but im having problems here. after i install the first time, i cant boot my HDD the second time. im installing OSX Ikatos R3 on a IDLE HDD and its the only harddrive in my PC

10.5.2 Update with Kalyway

==================

a- )

sudo su

password: (here it will wait for your password, enter your password)

cd /

rm -R mach_kernel

cd /system/library

rm -R Extensions.*

cd extensions

rm -R caches/com.*

chown -R 0:0 System.kext

chmod -R 755 System.kext

close the terminal

What is terminal telling you when you do this? I've never used terminal for this. When I type cd/ it tells me no such directory.

So I should type: sudo(space)su

then: cd(space)/

then: rm(space)-R(space)mach_kernel

then: cd(space)/(space)system(space)/(space)library

then: rm(space)-R(space)Extensions.*

then: cd(space)extensions

then: rm(space)-R(space)caches(space)/(space)com.*

then: chown(space)-R(space)0:0(space)System.kext

then: chmod(space)-R(space)755(space)System.kext

and hit enter after each line?

After the password, it gives me some letters and numbers with a # symbol.

What am I doing wrong?

15)

if you are updating the partition where you started use steps in a )

a- ) Drag and Drop the kernel to your mach_kernel from the desktop into root of your partition A in a finder window

This should be it, restart, and while at boot screen press f8 and type -v -f before you start...

It should be good to go... if I didnt make any missing steps...

Just drop it into a finder window or somewhere specific? I tried it and the authentication window popped up. I clicked authenticate but no password window popped up. It wouldn't let me boot from this partition afterwords. I restored back to the original 10.5.1 from my other partition to get it to boot again.

What is terminal telling you when you do this? I've never used terminal for this. When I type cd/ it tells me no such directory.

is cd(space)/

After the password, it gives me some letters and numbers with a # symbol.

What am I doing wrong?

Nothing. It's normal.

sudo(space)su
cd(space)/
rm(space)-R(space)mach_kernel
cd(space)/System/Library
rm(space)-R(space)Extensions.*
cd(space)Extensions
rm(space)-R(space)Caches/com.*
chown(space)-R(space)0:0(space)System.kext
chmod(space)-R(space)755(space)System.kext

followed the instructions exactly. It had me authenticate when I dropped the kernel onto the finder window. It said extensions could not be modified and I had to authenticate.

Is this right?

If not, where do I find the root?

If so, it now will not let me select the updated partition to boot from.It makes the non-updated partition boot in safe mode by default.Another thing I noticed is that in system preferences, using r3 10.5.1, none of my partitions show up in "select startup disk"Any ideas?

I forgot to repair permissions. Does this mean with disk utility?

Mysticus mentions replacing the kernel in terminal but I don't know how.

good find mui... thanx, I will add that to my guide section along with all the drivers... bcoz as you can see here, and all over the place, people are so lazy to read even a small guide and very lazy to try to accomplish some stuff by themselves. These kind of tools are great for newbies but again, I have a feeling that some newbies will ask question about it as well... Anyways, it is a great tool and some forum space saver tool I think :(

Making the new gfx installer and tidying up all the device ids... please help me build it up... so i can add them to correct places...

currently I have below device ids... if you see yours is missing letme know... the model name and id...

will add the missing ones and wrap up the installer... but i need proper information

You need to tell me what series your card is and device id, bcoz if i add it to wrong

Hal driver, it may cause panic or other problems...

====================

Below is for me to add the ids

to right driver........................

====================

older cards NVDANV10Hal.kext

4xxx cards NVDANV20Hal.kext

5xxx cards NVDANV30Hal.kext

6xxx cards NVDANV40Hal.kext

7xxx cards NVDANV40Hal.kext

8xxx cards NVDANV50Hal.kext

Nvidia Geforce 8800 GTS 320Mb. ---> 0x019310de

I've added the string to:

Geforce.kext

NVDAResman.kext

NVDANV50HAL.kext

Hope this help.

u dont need to add any id to geforce! it is auto loaded by hal and nvdaresman... and its loaded for all gfx cards...

all you need to know is your gfx card series and from the table add id to right hal driver + nvdaresman

Followed the update guide. Just did 10.5.2, no graphics update: Would not even let me select the partition to boot from. Kept defaulting to other, non-updated partion so I couldn't even boot with flags to find problem. Had to restore from other partition.

Tried it with the graphics update: kernel panic.

Something about devID's because GPU and MB are both nVidia.

Hi all, a special Thank to Mysticus...

I'm trying to istall r3 on my config (nforce 630i). But no results. It hangs up on boot (after: -DSMOS: Starting and then -Extension "com.apple.driver.ACPI_SMC_PlatformPlugin" has immediate...). I'll try a PATA DVD asap.

Thanks again

you know what? i think it's not very useful at first, but no i find it's very meaningful newbie .. lol

and i thought you might want to add the kexthelper too

find you the link :wacko:http://www.cheetha.net/Kext_Helper/Software.html

i would forgive them if i'm in good mood, cus i know what's the feelings if you're really new to here, or really new to pc/mac o_0 , although tutorial is out there, if you don't use computer much and you like to solve problem by yourself, you will sure feel frustrated and keep asking stupid question ... no excuse indeed lol! little bit off topic here heh

your problem is something to do with north bridge, i will tell you later about fixing it... (possible fix, not guaranteed to work)

i am currently quite busy, and will help the topic tomorrow evening

@zonker: keep trying you will understand where you are making the mistake...

will be back tomorrow evening...

@mui: it is very usefull, since there are too many people with no reading habit, and courage to try to mess up things to learn better... it s gonna be helpful for newbies indeed, kexthelper and kernel installer is definetely a must but I m gonna make another topic as well in addition to this topic and (most likely) add the readymade installers for all these drivers and kernels and the sort so that less people can ask question about it... all they will do is use the installer... bcoz if it s a tool that you need to make some stuff yourself, it s dangerous bcoz many people tend to not read so they will mess up anyways... :( hopefully it will help some nice newbies who likes to read couple of lines...

Are you sure?

I believe that the graphic update messed up this kext too.

However when I've done the update I've modified this kext too, and I've never had problem.

If I'm not wrong the first time I did the update without modifing kexts, in the kernel panic I got there was something referred to Geforce.kext.

Anyway, it works, and I'm happy :D

geforce driver works for all the nvidia cards your problem was most likely connection between hal drivers and nvdaresman and also the missing piece that identifies the type of device...

bcoz of many nvidia components, thos drivers load up for wrong devices... if they dont load correctly for correct device they cause all the problems... say like your gfx card load for ata controller, or some other on board nvidia device... bcoz of device type identifier is missing!!! if you download the first version of my gfx update and unpack with pacifist, and check the info files you will see the missing part...

i have ati card, and had geforce and nvdaresman errors bcoz nvidia gfx drivers were missing something in it... thats why i edited all the drivers with this missing piece... now it works.... what is missing is right now is device ids... if people can tell me their device ids of nvidia cards... i will add them otherwise it will be hard to explain it again and again to everyone...

it will definetely help indeed! thanx mate...

+ now i can add geforce cards easy but dont know about quadro cards...

- i dont know about which hal drivers are used for which quadro cards...

if you know each quadro series' hal category? let me know... i know geforce series already now i need quadro series' hal category... or else i will make the gfx update without quadro series, and they will need to be found trial error (between hal10 to hal50) nvdaresman will include all the ids...

thanx again for the information...

My plan is changed: things to come tomorrow or following day will be as below:

FULL 10.5.2 UPDATE IN ONE INSTALLER

==========================

+ kalyway 10.5.2 update

+ gfx update 1.0 for 10.5.2 (fixed update so ati cards will work w/o trouble of removing nvd and gef, and nvidia chipsets wont have trouble of loading nvd and gef driver bcoz of fixed device class--type-- identifier added)

+ various kernels and some needed file changes...

+ any wishes?

so people will be able to update everything at once... with the least amount of questions like what is root, what is driver....

stay tuned... and smell the air... something on air :)

I hope you recognized that all G92 are missing in crazyaim's list. You could include the efi strings for the gpus, so we need no drivers anymore ;-)

Greetz,

DvP

efi strings are out of my focus right now, as bcoz they are very specific to different cards and needed on certain cards (i think some 7 series???) and strings are added to com.apple.boot.plist file and requires efi v8 i think? that would extend the list of things to do forever... so would add too much hassle but can do it as a seperate install package later...

also why dont u make the list for 92 series for me and i add them to the list? would be more helpfull... find the device id list for g92... and tell me...

@others: if you think the device id list is missing your ids... let me

First of thanks a bunch to Mysticus.
