GWolfman
MBR and I started from 10.5.1 then upgraded to 10.5.2 Humm, I wonder if the upgrade makes a difference. I'll try 10.5.2 again with MBR and see how that goes, thanks! luh3417
DVD boot failed until I disabled AHCI! System would not boot off ANY boot DVD. This is a Panasonic (identifies as MAT{censored}A) SATA DVD. Just wanted to share that in case anyone else runs into it. So I'll disable AHCI until after the install, then turn it back on. Just wanted to mention that maybe the BIOS photos in post #1 are old, dunno, they do have AHCI off as needed for install at least with my DVD drive which seems confused by AHCI, but they have the onboard controller on, YMMV with that onboard, though I've had it work post-install on an IDE boot drive that I dd'ed a good install to. I also turn off serial and parallel but no big deal. The only actual problem I can suggest is, I have seen other threads that recommend setting the HPET Mode in Power Management to 64-bit. Maybe new bios photos (or just listing) can be incorportated into a version of this guide that runs straight off the new Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD... garmone
The OP did a great job describing step by step how to go from 0 to 60. Following these instructions, I was able to get most everything working. First, my setup: MB: ASUS P5W DH Deluxe with most recent BIOS CPU: e8200 VGA: eVGA GeForce 8600GT RAM: 4 GB GEIL DDR2 800 Hard drive: single 1TB WD green drive I installed as instructed using the combo updater after installing with GUID. The only issues I found were as follows: 1) when I installed NVInject installer for the VGA card, I selected both the regular install and the option to "fix" the sleep and shutdown. For the first time, the computer now takes >1 minute to start up (but the screen looks much better). Does anyone have experience with this? 2) Following the instructions to install the audio driver, I get a message saying something along the lines of unrecognized Realtek audio. This is using version 1.20 as suggested. Now that I sort of have things working, I'm interested in trying to tri-boot with vista, ubuntu and OSx86. I see that there are some instructions on how to set this kind of thing up but I figured I'd ask if anyone has found some really basic step-by-step instructions for this particular situation (new installs for all three). Thanks the OP and thanks for any help with my questions. EDIT: for reasons which are unclear to me, issue 1 sorted itself out without me making any changes. After a few restarts, it now boots very quickly. With regards to my second issue, I rolled back to the previous most recent BIOS and tried the instructions again, this time with great success. Now, if I could just get Time Machine working to my windows home server.... nickz327
So i followed the xp and leopard dual boot on mbr given in this guide, using a ds3l. Everything worked fine until i installed the AHCI kexts. Afterwards, i couldn't use my mouse and keyboard and sometimes I couldn't boot leopard. I didn't have AHCI enabled before installing the kexts, and when I did enable AHCI leopard wouldn't boot. Is there anything I did wrong that will let me use AHCI? Any help will be appreciated. nilush
Hi, I used this guide to install Kalways 10.5.2 on my machine. Everything works like charm except sleep and speedstep I guess. Is there a way to get the fans controlled connected to the mainboard? It is really loud! That is also the reason why I assume speedstep is not working. otherwise that Asus Quiet function in the BIOS would control them. Does anyone has an idea to fix that or does anyone experience the same issues? luh3417
Just wanted to let everyone know about kalyway 10.5.2. I'm on the Gigabyte DS3L, q6600, 4gigs of ram, Nvidia 8800GT. EVERYTHING works OUT OF THE BOX with this board. No mods necessary. When you go to customize the install, just select the appropriate kext for your video card and you're good to go. That new Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD... is there a guide for it? Maybe the guide is as simple as you say above just select the right video kext and you're done. Every cycle it gets better and a lot of the above 800 posts are now obsolete. I still think a Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD guide for newbies would be good. There are quite a few options to select or not during the install. My question is, if I re-run the install and just add a couple things is that ok or does it step on the previous install? I have 2 systems, one done with this original guide using 10.5.1 and updating, the other done just in one shot with the new Kalyway 10.5.2 DVD plus using Migration Assistant to bring over my old apps/files/settings. But on that one the microphone is unhappy and so is the printer (gets error and pauses constantly). I think I should jack in the disk 1 and see if the mike and printer get happy again then I'd know if it was a hardware or software issue. @noraffi I have 1066 RAM (sort of a waste unless it gives you some room to overclock) and it reports as 800... NamelessMC
Motherboard: Gigabyte P35-DS3L CPU : Core 2 Duo E6750 @ stock speeds Hard drive : Western Digital Raptor 150gb DVD : Pioneer 215D (Sata) VGA : BFG 8800GT 512mb The install worked out okay. We had major issues with Windows XP forcing itself to boot even when I basically BANISHED it from BIOS settings as a boot up drive. Finally I put the Raptor in my other PC and wiped it clean and formated it. After that, smooth sailing on this PC. I went with the 10.5.2 update, but I really wish the OP would've listed the known issues before I took the plunge because: I have a Linksys WMP300N wireless adapter. I was so stoked when I finished the install 10.5.1, the airport card read right off the bat and even had stronger reception than it did with XP! But after installing 10.5.2, it didn't work anymore. No information in Airport Card, now I have to use LAN Ethernet. It's disappointing because I know if I want to use WiFi on this system, I'll have to do a clean format and start from scratch. Restart doesn't work. It hangs at the Leopard splash screen. I have to cold shutdown in order to get the system to restart. Other than that, things are fine and the system appears to be stable. Just a word of advice to anyone: The Linksys WMP300N works without added kexts or settings FRESH off the install when you STICK with 10.5.1. This is a very powerful WiFi card and it's native supported with 10.5.1. If you have this card, dodge the 10.5.2 update like the matrix. Make sure your drive is either wiped or there is a formated Fat32 Journaled partition before you try to boot from DVD. Windows XP is like an STD about letting you boot any other device. It pretty much forces itself to boot no matter what. scudly
I have to ask with this install does the system lock-up when it's been idle for a while? My current install from a Leo4Allv2 disc seems to work fine doing normal things, but if I leave it idle for too long the system locks up and I have to reboot. I'd like to get around this but no one seems to mention things like this in any of their guides, just that it boots up and other things work. Matt Stobbs
Everything works great for me. cainedna
I've been running my setup very similar to this, but still get kernel panics on occasion. It seems to be related to heavy network traffic, usually transferring files over 100MB locally, or things like Transmission for torrenting. Aside from those issues, it works like a dream. Super performance. No sleep/shutdown, but I never need them. If I shut down, I just let it get most of the way and manually shut it down otherwise. Here are my specs. E8400 Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0ghz Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R Version 2.0 2 x 2GB Ram Corsair DDR2 800mhz (set to 3072 MB for stability, I hoped.... tried removing one stick even.) EVGA 8800GT 512MB Pioneer SATA DVD Burner Western Digital 320GB SATA HD Hawking USB 802.11g Wireless adapter HWUG1A using their utility for Leopard on their site, version 1.5.1 Also have a 160GB Western Digital SATA HD in there for easier dual booting. I've tried every BIOS setting I can boot from, but still get those issues. Is there something obvious I'm not trying? Has anyone else had these issues, possibly with the USB adapter?
