@MacUser, here's a baffler:

 

After lowering the CPU Multiplier to 9, bumping the FSB to 345 for a total of 3.10GHz (that's currently the highest it will run 100% stable in Windows), everything runs faster, smoother, etc.-- EXCEPT now when I enter sleep mode in Leopard, I can't wake my computer up without it freaking out and resetting my CMOS. Nothing crashes the system EXCEPT waking from sleep mode in Leopard.

 

I ran some tests, and sleep works 100% for me when I'm using my old setup (12x259 FSB). However, if I bump up the FSB and decrease the multiplier, sleep crashes. Weird, huh?

 

I was wondering if you had any ideas.

 

Weird for sure with mine it will go to sleep but when it wakes up other than the screen coming back to life good luck doing anything else it needs a hard reset just to get it working again needless to say sleep is now disabled.

Also, MacUser, I would love to chat with you about overclocking. I'm very curious-- I noticed that anytime I bump up ANY of the voltages on my DS3L board, it won't POST. I tried each value individually (DDR2, FSB, PCIE) at +.1, didn't post. Together +.1 each, no post. Tried bumping my CPU voltage up one increment (From 1.325 to 1.31something), didn't post. Am I doing this wrong? Is there something else I'm missing? I did a crapton of research and I can't figure out why I can't add any voltage to my board...

 

With my board when I was testing I had the CPU voltage up to about 1.4v actual (~1.45v BIOS) but even then it would not run run stable at > 3150mhz the ram is always set to +.2v as mine is rated at 2.0v and I had upped the FSB a +.2v to see if it would help the over clocking but it did not so no I never seen any non-starting because of upping the voltage, I finally went with the stock voltage which with my chip is 1.2125v (~1.17v actual after the vdroop) this gives a 3150mhz running speed on the CPU when it is under load otherwise it runs at 2100mhz@1.04v because I have the C1E enabled it is a hell of a nice chip for low voltage over clocking just won't run at high speeds no matter what voltage I put to it.

If you have any suggestions, given that you also have a DS3L board, I'd love to hear. Either that, or if you can point me to a good overclocking forum, I'd love that, too.

Yesterday I tried Time Machine for the first time. Using my second internal hdd (sata) drive. Works just fine. I really didn't think it would from what I've read. I don't think I did anything special. Just followed the guide posted here.

Those new kexts for AHCI give me a "waiting for root device" issue. I'm currently using the older fix for it. Specs below.

i havent tried for that same reason. i want to have sure confirmation that it works. what are the benifits of it anyway? i only have 2 gigs of ram and dont use more then 2 sata drives, would it improve my os's performance?

 

lets say i do try it out and it doesnt work, how would i go back to my orignal settings? i'll do it to confirm if it works but i dont want to mess up my comp.

I've figured it out. I just tried a new install and I just installed the AHCI stuff without the USB files, booted with -f after installation and worked great.

They new kexts woked fine to activate all 4 SATA ports of my GA-P35-DS3L, or at least they all show up in the system profiler. It messes up the original fix for the orange removable drive icons though, but here is the link to the new fix for that,I just did it and it worked great:

At darwin bootloader, press any key to add a flag to boot:. There you will type in -f which I believe flushes the kext caches. I always like to boot also with -v so I can see if anything goes wrong.

Can't we just make a .dmg of the final result? How big would it be? The guide is pretty easy but that would make things even easier. Just use Disk Utility, New Image. Though, I think you need to boot off another driver or DVD, can't image the live boot drive.

I have similar setup. Strangely, at stock multiplier (still w/increased FSB), I had no problems with sleep. I always disable speedstep in BIOS, but before I did, it seemed to work.

 

However, when I increased the FSB on my processor and decreased the multiplier, sleep stopped working. Put it back to stock multiplier, sleep worked again.

 

From what I've read, sleep seems pretty hit-or-miss-- however, I can tell you that I used iAtkos 1.0i to do my initial installation and netkas' latest smbios, and sleep worked. Hope it helps!

Well I never sleep or turn off my machine, but I just tried it for you. Yes it slept, but i couldn't wake it up with the apple bluetooth keyboard or with the Microsoft wireless mouse. I touched the power button on the box quickly once and it came back on, but made a clicking noise until I turned on itunes. And I got a device removal dialog, not good, I think about a compact flash card I had mounted by usb. Disk Utility doesn't seem to want to run either. Otherwise everything seems normal. I think I will restart now to reset everything. (Update: it hung on shutdown so clearly sleep does bad things, but everything started up again ok afterwards.)

 

Kind of creeped me out how ungraceful it was waking up so I don't think I'll try that again.

Thank you both for the testing. I think you can check for Speedstep with iStat Pro (look for frequency changes of the cores).

 

I'll buy the GA-P35-DS3L later this month and post some results here.

All this talk about sleep on the DS3L, I thought I'd mention my own experience. Sleep seems to work quite well on my DS3L. It always seems to go to sleep properly and seems to wake up properly. I say "seems" because I've had some system crashes and it never happens on a "fresh" boot, as far as I can recall. It happens after I've done some work after waking up the computer from sleep (which I do by pressing the power button). It's happened twice to me so far when starting up Parallels, and twice when (oddly enough) doing to shutdown the system.

I have P5W DH DELUXE , Q6600 , 4GB ram , nvidia7600GT , PS2 keyboard/mouse . The problem is that I have two HDD one installed kaly 10.5.2 and other win xp . I installed Vmware usion and detected my xp hdd as bootcomp partition .

 

The the problem is I can run windows through Vmware in 10.5.2 but unable to do anything because keyboard mouse not working . I tryed to install Vmware tool but it shows installing but actully do nothing enlessly .

 

I request to all member who use vmware successfully in this procedure please help me .
