Taxan
Currently building a media centre pc for my son using this Shuttle XPC SG33G5. Its a lovely box which has plenty of headroom to increase performance. His main requirement was to have a triple boot system. I've loaded XP SP2 , Leopard 10.5.2 and Linux(OpenSuse10.3) in that order using Acronis OS selector as the multi-boot loader. I'm pretty new to the OSx86 scene and this build is only my second. On my initial distro install for the Shuttle I used the iATKOS_v1.0ir2 dvd. A good leo distro but found after install that video was only at the standard vesa 1024x768 so no QE/CI. No Ethernet and no sound. A quick search on the forum found a fix for the Lan problem. After a few days searching it became clear that there was no easy fix/patch for either the sound or video. My initial install was always going to be my starting point for further experimentation so I decides to re-install using Kalways's latest dvd( Kalyway_10.5.2_DVD_Intel_Amd). Installed it using 9.2 vanilla kernel option. This is another excellent dvd which installed in less than 15mins. This proved to be a real result as both sound and ethernet now worked out of the box. Still no change on the video front but that is going to be easily fixed by installing a compatible gfx card such as the MSI 8600GT 256MB GDDR2 DVI HDMI which can be picked up in the UK for £57/$114. The system seems to be running fine and stable. Like most OSx86 dvds the install only provides a base application installation so using Pacifist I was able to bring the software build up to the same level as my son's Macbook Pro. We are both very pleased with the results so far and thank all out there on OSx86 scene for bringing us to this point. Aries326
I just picked up the SG33G5 myself. Anyone know if the Radeon X1950 Pro will work with the Kalyway DVD or will I have to purchase another video card? Is there a list of compatible video cards? @Taxan Thanks for sharing your experience! Now I know I can get OSX to run on this!
Aries326
I was able to install Kalyway 10.5.2!!! Yeah!!! The only problem is that I don't have all the resolutions on my ATI Sapphire x1950 Pro. I'm stuck on 1024x768 even with the Bronya Kext Files. I'm able to get more choices of resolutions, but the desktop is shown with the parts of the desktop chopped off at the sides, top and bottom. The only one that works on my screen is the 1024x768.

discordia
Hi all, I need help with the sound card. It's impossible to get it working... What kext or installer have you used? I have Kalyway 10.5.2 vanilla kernel + combo update kalyway 10.5.3 + Apple 10.5.4 update I tried a lot of installers and kexts and no good results. And I can not find a good dump for the patcher. My machine is a SG33G5M with a ALC888DD sound card. I would like to use the Digital output, is it possible? Any help?
Roders
Hi I'm thinking of purchasing SG33G5M which is pretty similar I "think", if not the same as the SG33G5, but with a digital readout (and maybe was not available as a barebones, not 100% sure about that though). Just wondered if any of the probs (such as non working audio and onboard Gfx) have been sorted, and if people think that OSX should install and run well on this machine, in a dual boot config with XP or Vista. mrdale
I too have the sg33g5, specs below... What I did successfully I used Kalyway 10.5.2 + 10.5.3 Combo Update to install. I used the vanilla kernel. I applied the audio patch alc888 patch from http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=6739 to get audio working Outstanding Issues I'm hoping someone can help me get to 10.5.5 (tried once with no success, can anyone help) Currently running the x3100 video which is stuck at 1024x768 (anyone have a solution to this?) I don't think sleep is working. (hard drives sleep but screen image stays, even when you manually sleep the system.) Shuttle Barebones system (sg33g5) core 2 quad 2.4 Ghz (q660) 4 GB (2 x 2GB OCZ PC2-6400 DDR2800) 500 GB SATA HD (Hitatchi Deskstar) 22x DVD Burner (Samsung SH-S223F) Waiting for...Gigabyte GeForce 8600GT Display Card(GV-NX86t256H) {UPDATE!} Managed to get 10.5.5 working fine. Had a lot of problems getting Adobe CS3 working but now it works fine. Sleep is still erratic
yatman60
I have a SG33G5M Deluxe. Just used the iDeneb 10.5.5 installer and I got everything to install on my second hardrive partition. I have Vista Ultimate on my primary partition and then created a 2nd one for OSx86. I had to search for an ATI x1950 driver to get the 1280x1024 resolution and also an ALC888D audio driver. I just installed the audio and i can't get it to work. Not sure what I did wrong but in the finder control panel, it's still not seeing any audio devices. Anyone have any ideas? Bluetooth, and other components seem to be working as far as I can tell. Will need to test further.
yatman60
Ok so new development. I still can't get the sound to work but I also seemed to have lost the dual boot option. Now, it seems everytime I restart the computer, it simply goes into OSX. I'm not being given the option to boot windows. I didn't change a single thing other than to try and install a different audio device. Not being familiar with command line options in OSX, I tried to find an installed that was self executing so maybe one of those installers hosed something? Is that possible? Aside from that, everything seemed to work fine. I've gone back to installing vista 64 on my pc and got rid of osx for now. Expecting delivery of my new unibody 15" pro anyways and i'll bootcamp that thing. But it was fun playing. If anyone solves the audio problem and has any idea on the dual boot problem, I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks, Teesh SG33G5M Deluxe, 4GB RAM, Vista Ultimate 64, x1900, TvWonder PCI-650, 250GB internal, 1TB external Firewire, Q6600 CPU.

Tigerchen
Is there no-one that can hint me how to get Leo working on my Barebone SG33G5, with Intel C2Q Q6600, X3100, Intel G33 Bearlake Chipset and its HD Audio? I am using a Samsumg HE753li SATA-HDD and an Plextor PX-810SA SATA-DVD burner.
Yoni Yoni
I was able to run Kalyway 10.5.2, upgrade to 10.5.5 and 10.5.6. The only thing I haven't figured out is the sleep. No matter what i do I can't get it to work. The PC does go to sleep but it will hang when I try to bring it back up. Maybe is my video card and not the shuttle itself. Shuttle SG33G5 4 GB RAM PC6400 Intel Pentium Dual Core E5200 (45nm) 1 x 500GB Western Digital Green Netgear Wireless Card WG311T XFX 9800 GT GDDR3 512 RAM I haven't test yet: eSata ports HDMI - Onboard HDMI won't work. You have to jumper up the motherboard if you are using a PCIe Video card. With the PCIe Video card you can get it though SPIF Sorry... I really have no need to test those ATM. Sound works (analog) Video works ( I can change resolution up and down with full Q/E) Shutdown/ Restart works. Time Machine works as well as all other apps. Has anyone found a solution for sleep in this model? Not that it bothers me but I'd love to get it fixed. If you need instructions on how to install it and upgrade it let me know. I can post a step by step that will make it happen for you. Kalyway 10.5.2 >>> 10.5.5 combo update >>>>> 10.5.6 Update Cheers mates

I can't wait to see the guide! Which installer did you guys use to get 10.5.6 working and what settings did you use? Is there no-one that can hint me how to get Leo working on my Barebone SG33G5, with Intel C2Q Q6600, X3100, Intel G33 Bearlake Chipset and its HD Audio? I am using a Samsumg HE753li SATA-HDD and an Plextor PX-810SA SATA-DVD burner. I got it to work with xXx 10.5.6 I didn't get audio working and I've been playing around with iPC 10.5.6 with all the right drivers but iPC hangs at boot. I just downloaded these drivers for ALC888D. http://3rr0rists.com/en/driver/adi-alc-leopard-driver.html/ I'm reinstalling xXx 10.5.6, will try these ALC drivers and install Bronya's x1950GT Pro Drivers afterwards. Can the guys who have gotten their SG33G5s to work properly please post their setups, installers and drivers used? There's a small but loyal Shuttle fanbase out there and we should collaborate on compiling this information.
