Sounds i couldnt get to work even there is drivers for ALC888.

I also tried like in osx86 wiki has describe to install sounds:

http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/775Dual-VSTA

but without any luck.

now, what to do you think about trying to install Jas 10.4.8 with 775Dual patch?

Hello BlackCH,

First things first, YOU ARE THE F#@KING MAN!!! This install DVD works flawlessly, as virtually all the necessary files/drivers/kexts are already located on the disc! Making life just that little bit sweeter :D

I just had a few minor questions as this was my first dip into the MAC world (as well as MAC on PC). I am trying to replicate my old windows setup, ie mapping network drives from my NAS. How does one do this on Mac OS X? Following existing guides does not seem to work as certain functions on my install seem to do nothing (like clicking on the Network icon in Finder, doesnt generate any new windows).

But I suppose the main concern I have is what software actually work? Or are included in this release? I cant see Front Row on my MAC, and have tried to install it by the Customise Install feature, as well as by searching for it on Spotlight via the frontrow.pkg (this generates an error stating it couldnt install). Please can you tell me what is missing or what I can expect to NOT work on my setup?

My PC specs are:

Dell Optiplex GX270

Intel P4 2.8GHz Northwood (SSE2 only) :o (Runs Tiger sooo much better than Windows XP & Vista, boots in 20secs)

2GB DDR3200 RAM

120GB PATA Drive

XFX Geforce 6200 256MB (Works 100% with Titan kext) :)

Netgear WG311T Wifi card (Works 100% as Airport Extreme see wiki on editing Info.plist for this card)

Onboard NIC

17" Dell Monitor

Logitech Laser Wireless Keyboard & Mouse

BTW everything else seems to be working ok! Actually primarily it's only Safari I can vouch for as working (software wise), Will be testing Office 2004, iLife 2008 & iWork 2008 soon (unless you advise otherwise?...)

Lastly (I promise), can you tell me how I can make the sleep function work correctly as now when I press Sleep on my keyboard it prompts me to choose what I want to do (Shutdown, Sleep or Restart), if I choose Sleep or press the Sleep button from the Finder drop down, it APPEARS to go to sleep (ie powers everything down nicely) BUT when I try to power up again (either by the same Sleep button on the keyboard) on press any key it restarts the unit, like it was just started up from a fresh power on.Can you please assist/advise on any of my problems with my setup?...

P.S. If I havent made you feel that WE ARE ALL grateful for all your hard work & dedication and especially support for your amazing release then I apologise!

THANK YOU! YOU ARE TRULY A LEGEND!!! ;)

davejones

P.P.S I have to let people know that I have been able to apply ALL of the available "Apple Software Updates", except for the 1 x "Airport Extreme" one, as it funked up my hacked kext and knocked the Wifi out. Sorted it out immediately by readding the info to Info.plist in the relevant kext file = ALL OK AGAIN!!! :D

Hi BlackCH - firstly, thanks VERY much - this thread has given me some hope

I'm installing on an Acer 7720g - Acer7720_specs.txt

At the moment I've got Uphuck 1.4i r3 installed - it crawls and no hardware works. Also I have to change BIOS to IDE mode to install and boot Tiger, then change back to AHCI to use Vista or XP

Could you please advise on choices in the setup for my machine. Desperate to experience the real Tiger, I've got a three-legged, mangy moggy at the moment :)

Thanks

I tried to boot the install dvd on an asus p5b-vm se, but without success. It hangs at:

[...]

using 10485 buffer headers and 4096 cluster IO buffer headers

Enabling XMM register save/restore and SSE/SSE2 opcodes

Started CPU 01

IO APIC: Version 0x20 Vectors 0:23

ACPI: System State [s0 S3 S4 S5] (S3)

Any idea whats wrong?

Intel E2140

Onboard GMA X3000 graphics

HDD on SATA 1

DVD on SATA 4

(makes no difference which SATA port they are plugged to)

Installed Uphucks 1.4i r3 and it crawls - does XxX 10.4.11 stand any chance of runnng or am I totally out of luck with my hardware? Are the drivers likely to come along in the near future?

I'd be very grateful if someone could give me a hint as to what install selections to make

Thanks

A basic installation should work. You will have problems to get your graphics supported (AFAIK 8xxx cards works only under leo 10.5.2 except for the 8800). For the rest the only way to know is trying. I would try to install Leopard if I were you; OSX without hardware accelerated graphics is a bit of a pain in the ass. The rest of the hardware can be fixed (even if is not supported at all you could add an USB w-lan or USB audio for a few $), but the graphics cannot be changed (assuming you have a laptop, do you?).... Run a search in the forums to see if your hardware is supported.

Thanks very much for advice BlackCH, really wanted Tiger, but beggars, choosers and all that. Sounds like you've saved me a whole lot of time and grief. Now just got to track down USB w-lan and sound that will definitely work with Leopard

Oh btw, yes, it's an Acer 7720g notebook

Thanks again

Hello there,

I have followed this thread from the beginning, and am very encouraged by the positive feedback of other users - this would appear to be one of the most comprehensive Tiger distributions.

I shall shortly be installing on my inexpensive Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop, which has the following specifications:

CPU: Celeron M 380, 1.6ghz

Chipset: Intel 910GML

Video: Intel GMA900

Audio: Sigmatel STAC9200

I would appreciate any suggestions on the best kernel, patches and drivers to select. Am I correct in assuming that these specifications are too low to benefit from the EFI emulation? Furthermore, will the paperclip VGA hack still be required to use the GMA900 driver?

Thank you in advance!

Cheers,

James

this basic selection would do for you too:

-Apple Combo 10.4.11 Update

from 'Kernel and Kexts' menu:

-no-EFI kexts (all 4 items)

-8.9.1 Kernel Universal + Patches (all 3 items)

-RecommendedPatches (all 5 items)

then add the GMA900 drivers+fix and drivers for the rest of your hardware...paper clip still needed.

You can only try EFI if you get the 8.11.1 EFI kernel working in your system...

Great, thank you for the prompt reply.

Incidentally, I installed the Uphuck 1.3 release earlier and was surprised to find that the system booted up fullscreen, so perhaps the paperclip trick is not required?

Regardless, I shall try reinstalling this distribution.

Cheers,

James

I can confirm this working.

If you have nvidia video cards

ATTENTION!!!! DO NOT INSTALL ANY DRIVERS FROM THIS RELEASE!!!!

what are you talking about?

Titan, Natit dual, Nvinject, ALL WORKS WITH MOST NVIDIA CARDS (5xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx) without problems.

So please...
