i do not know if this belongs here or not, but I think it does.

I plan on buying an r40 centrino laptop for 50 bux. It has an AGP mobility radeon 7500 32 megs. I would like to get leopard on it and working well. gonna beef it up to 2gb ram and 1.8ghz Pentium m. whats holdin me back is the graphics card. I don't know if this will help it or not.

You can work without QE. With this card QuartzExtreme as well as OpenGL and AGP acceleration is impossible. Moreover in Leopard.

Hi all

I'm running iAtkos 10.5.5 on P4c800 deluxe /p4 2,6 ghz(only sse2)/1 Gb ram

I had many problems wit my radeon 9250 AGP, i was able to enable Agp bus with Agpgart but never had success with QE/CI.

Now i'm running my system with geforce fx5200 AGP but i have reverse problem.. can't make it work with agpgart but full resolutions and QE/CI active. It is a good solution but sometimes the system slow down..

I would like to enable QE/CI with AGP bus and seems it can only works on ati cards.. is it correct?

I can do some tests and post logs with my actual configuration if it can be useful. Thx

About Radeon9250 look here http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=113238

And remember - CI is not supported by hardware, QE is possible only in Tiger.

About NVidia - other developers needed.

Hello Slice. i'm having the same issue someone here had, I can't boot with AGPGart, not even into safe mode.

I get the following before the freeze:

AGP: Found VIA VT83xx/VT87xx/KTxxx/Px8xx host to PCI Bridge
AGP: SaveBridgeState ok
AGP Create Nub for AGP card=41521002 BUS=1 CAP=88
AGPGart: Publish Nub Display

These are my specs:

- ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 256 MB

- ASRock P4VM8 motherboard

- Pentium 4 Prescott 3.0 GHz

- 1.5 GB of RAM

- 80 GB HD

It's a fresh system, nothing installed, no callisto, nothing. I did not get QE/CI before, either.

I understand you asked the other user to boot and collect some files for you. I, however, can't seem to boot no matter what, not even -x. If you want any other information at all, please let me know.

Upgraded to 10.5.6!

Installed with Pacifist -> 10.5 Gold master -> 10.5.6 Combo update

With an nearly identical setup I upgraded to 10.5.6, all is working (except sleep).

OpenGL performances identical to 10.5.4 - 10.5.5

Here are my kext info:

Video (mix of ideas from dm_webd and cyclonefr, look here for later method)

AGPGart -> 2.7.1 with AGP_HOST: 0xf0000000

Natit -> with dual x1600 info.plist, all from DM_webd method look here

ATIRadeonX1000 -> vanilla 10.5.6 with 71C2 key added

IONDRVSupport -> Vanilla 1.4.3 (from 10.4.7 combo update kexts)

ATA support

IOATAFamily.kext -> No version number (For ATA Support)

MB support (audio/networking)

AppleAC97Audio.kext -> 1.0.0 (for AC'97 sound support)

AppleAzaliaAudio.kext -> 1.0.0 (for AC'97 sound support)

IONetworkingFamily.kext -> 1.6.0 (for networking)

EFI support

AppleSMBIOS.kext -> 1.0.14 (For compatibility with EFI boot)

dsmos.kext -> No version number (Page description EFI module)

Rest is 10.5.6 vanilla kext.

rm /System/Library/Extensions.kextcachem:

I use Leopard and I'm getting this problem:

/System/Library/Extensions.kextcache: No such file or directory

my VGA : Intel Corporation 82865G

Please help me :(

Try that:

rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

Also, check for compatibility with your Vid card and AGPGART (your issue wasn't related to you vid card but only to bad file name)

hay,

my english is not so good..

my problem is what I must do, when I read this:

Locate:

<key>IONameMatch</key>

<array>

<string>pci8086,2561</string>

</array>

When I open plist.info in APGGart.kext is nothing like that.

with this: sudo nano System/Library/Extensions/AGPGart.kext/Contents/info.plist

I see a white window...

Must I past this by myself?

Hey Splice,

Here is my spec:

-ATI All-in-One Wonder 9600Pro 128 MB AGP

-P4 3GHz ASUS p4p800se (typo?)

-3 Gb ram..

Installed the AGPGart271 and the white screen with apple login freezes but can see the mouse cursor. Also tried to install the ATI display (Mac Pro version) gives an message no ati product find.

Any advice for an alternative kext for the ATI all-in-wonder family graphic cards or the AGPGart can be tweak to make it work?

Thx in advance.

AFAIK you need IONDRVSupport 1.4.3 (from Tiger 10.4.4). It contains specail procedures for all-in-wonder.

hmm,

Slice, do you know where is my problem?

Sorry, I do not make tutorial. Read FAQs!!!!

You say that AGPGart does not contain info.plist? Sure?

You don't need to edit it.

Your problem is here

sudo nano System/Library/Extensions/AGPGart.kext/Contents/info.plist

it must be Info

Hi Slice, can you help me with my setup. Am trying ver 2.7.1 but it just hangs. I've looked through many of the messages here and can not see where i am going wrong. I'm sure it's some memory setting i have wrong?

At the moment the only version that will work is ver 1. I've tried versions 2.4 and above and all of them cause my system to hang. I cannot find 2.1 and 2.2 to try.

Any help be appreciated. many thanks

EDITED 12-09-2008

Attention for users of ATI Radeon prior to X1000!

Leo version of ATIRadeon9700GLDriver.bundle is PowerPC only

So you can't get hardware QE with these cards in Leo!

Your wrong Slice, i have done some further checking on the forum and there ARE files that are i386 compatible and i am currently using them. Check out some of the recent posts i have made and you will see. I attach a screen shot of my screen so you can see.

Versions after 10.5 ATIRadeon9700GLDriver was ppc only but what has been suggested by some members is either A)get hold of beta version or B.) modify the 9700 driver with that of the X1000 one because that is i386 compatible.

That is what i have done, i took the X1000GLDriver executable from the kext, renamed it ATIRadeon9700GLDriver and swapped it with the one in the 9700GLDriver kext. OK it's not perfect but i have QE and CI.

Great! I know this trick and happy that it helps you.

About AGPGart. My 2.6.x and 2.7.x are sequel to 2.2. I never see when 2.2 works and 2.6 - no.

2.6 and 2.7 are different in memory settings because I still don't know what is better. Look topic and AGP FAQ (link at topic) where I wrote all that I know.

In all successful reports with intel chipset and ATI graphics we saw acceleration no more then 20%. Is it worse to try?

Hello!

Slice, i checked the dmesg output, and the ioreq, but i don't see anything about AGPGart, this means it not loaded in at boot? (I'm not developer...)

Because if something wrong, i think i will get error massage, but I get nothing.

My Quadro is accelerated, but in AGP mode. I opened the AGPGart.kext, and put this to the Info.plist in the root:

 <key>AGP_Base</key>
<integer>Video_RAM_size</integer>
<key>IONameMatch</key>
<string>pci10de,e2</string>

And this to the Resources/Info.plist:

 <key>IONameMatch</key>
<string>pci10de,e2</string>

But i see this in my log (This have only AGP text:)

  +-o pci10de,e1@0  <class IOPCIDevice, registered, matched, active, busy 0, retain 6>
 | |	   {
 | |		 "IOPCIResourced" = Yes
 | |		 "IOName" = "pci10de,e1"
 | |		 "subsystem-id" = <3f810000>
 | |		 "IODeviceMemory" = (({"address"=0xfffffffff0000000,"length"=0x8000000}))
 | |		 "class-code" = <00000600>
 | |		 "IOPowerManagement" = {"CurrentPowerState"=0x2}
 | |		 "revision-id" = <a1000000>
 | |		 "assigned-addresses" = <1000004200000000000000f00000000000000008>
 | |		 "device-id" = <e1000000>
 | |		 "vendor-id" = <de100000>
 | |		 "name" = "pci10de,e1"
 | |		 "subsystem-vendor-id" = <43100000>
 | |		 "IOAGPFlags" = 0x1
 | |		 "AGP_Target" = <>
 | |		 "reg" = <0000000000000000000000000000000000000000>
 | |		 "compatible" = <706369313034332c3831336600706369313064652c653100706369636c6173732c3036303030
000>
 | |	   }

And the lspci output:

 00:0b.0 PCI bridge [0604]: nVidia Corporation nForce3 250Gb AGP Host to PCI Bridge [10de:00e2] (rev a2)

And this in IOPCIFamily.kext:

 <key>IOPCI2PCIBridge-Name</key>
			 <dict>
					 <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key>
					 <string>com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily</string>
					 <key>IOClass</key>
					 <string>IOPCI2PCIBridge</string>
					 <key>IONameMatch</key>
					 <string>pci-bridge</string>
					 <key>IOProviderClass</key>
					 <string>IOPCIDevice</string>
			 </dict>

I don't need change the IONameMatch string here?

Maybe something wrong wit the preferences only... Sadly OSX won't load the .kext with kextload, but if You give the instuctions i give detailed report about this problem for You.

I will be happy if I can help to You!

Bye!

In some way similar situation to Hashan`s :

Spec first:

Leopard 10.5.2 Kaly + updated with combo update (official) with pre/post update patches to 10.5.5

Foxconn P4M800 MB

Prescott P4 3.06 GHz (Celeron) SSE2 & SSE3 Compatible

VIAP4M800 Pro North Bridge

2Gb RAM

Nvidia FX 5700 LE AGP 8x, 128 MB, device Id 0x0343

NVinject 0.2.1 Jonniecarcinogen installer

QE supported

During startup display flashes 3 to 5 times before desktop loading. But I had QE.

Flight Gear (latest) not playable at all, but iWork and everything else working smoothly.

When installing AGPGart_uni_latest (lazy to browse back in this long topic) I got Black Screen with one movable and one static mouse cursor.

Then I found (somewhere in this forum) AGPGart_Intel kext and installed it.

Now during startup everything is loading smoothly, even EarthDesk is displayed instantly - original wallpaper not seen anymore.

In About Mac my FX5700LE is still shown as PCI but from first impression everything got a boost from somewhere -QE still supported & Core Image Harware Accelerated

Then I startFlight Gear and enabled all the "goodies" and higher resolution (1024 x 768 - nothing special you will say) and the result was shocking: with detailed terrain (roads, trees) 3D clouds everything is running smoothly - relatively what you can expect from this old comp.

I will test it more with XBench.

BR & thanks to Slice and the rest of developers.

I tested with these AGP_Base values:

0 : black window with 2 mouse cursor.
0xf0000000 : black window with 2 mouse cursor.
0x08000000 : black window with 2 mouse cursor.
0x10000000 : black window with 2 mouse cursor.
0xd8000000 : black window with 1 mouse cursor.
0xe8000000 : black window with 2 mouse cursor.
0xf8000000 : black window with 2 mouse cursor.
aperture_size : nothing, the kext not loaded. (AGPGart 2.67)
Video_RAM_size : nothing, the kext not loaded. (AGPGart (2.67)

Any ideas?

Thanks!
