anyone tried the iATOKS i1.0r3 + bad bios patch on a asus laptop?

it says it will solve the freeze at the buffers count (10495), which in my experience was caused by ACPIPlaltform.kext thus forcing us to use a single core.

Well that is how i got around it anyway, not sure how you guys did it, any thoughts?

so does this actually let you use 2 cores?

which notebook are you using?

it's macam... unfortunately it does not work for me, but I can use macam for another cheap webcam I got off ebay lol...

focus kinda sucks (manually twisting the thing lol) but the color and clarity are good! (especially since i paid $13 for it) :)

I got both cores running! :)

Hey guys,

I noticed something strange. Because my built in webcam is USB, I use Windows XP in VMWare to run MSN, and connect the USB webcam (not usable by OS X because no drivers) to it. I know, a hefty 512MB dedicated to MSN and IE... but sometimes OS X will not see the built in webcam connected so it won't let VMWare use it.. Other times I can see it in system profiler and am able to connect it to vmware. anyone know why?

Thanks!

Ant

"I noticed also when i am under MAC OSX the HD make son strange noise, i' had the same noise under ubuntu and it's was the cycle_load_problem, is this problem knew under mac ??

I'm also encountering this strange 'tick' under both Linux and OSX on my F3SV.

On another note, I finally have been able to get network connectivity! I found an old USB network card based on the Pegasus chipset and it works without any problems or stability issues biggrin.gif"

The tick noise can be solve by setting up manualy the hdd's apm with hdapm (search on google didn't remember), install it and type in a terminal

hdapm diskX (X=Your disk) 192

The tick is normal, "your disk protects itself", but to many id bad for its lifetime....

Sorry for bad english i'm french !

Is the trick for "all core working" exists for an Asus A8Sc (Z99Sc) ???????

I'm on leo Kalyway, that's good !

you know what? I get better battery life on leo than on windows with all those power4 gear. I get abot 2:30h, while on windows just 1:40

That is strange. I haven't drained my battery on Leopard yet but I'm sure it's reporting wrong with something like 2:20 or something while on Windows I clearly have 3 hours (I bought a 9 cell battery). Plus, Leopard doesn't have cpu throttling features, etc to save battery life =/ (well, not for us anyway)

This is strange. I just realized that my battery meter is gone again. Is Leopard restoring a non-working version of powermanagement bundle?

@all,

If you want dual core BIOS fix, you must go to the thread in my signature and ask for your BIOS mod (and post him a link so he knows where to find your BIOS)

How can i mod a bios ?

Oh for the hd apm, you can also set it to 255 (it desactivates the hd powermanagement-HD's APM), or "max", type

man hdapm

for info... level 192 is a good compromise between powersaving and this @}#{[@| tick noise...

The tick noise is due to a bad configuration of the firmware of the hd, and a bad configuration of our mac os acpi, too agressive...

Antaholics i also encountred a systems hangs on grid view since i've updated Quicktime (for FCP), have you find a fix ?

I encounter a kernel panic at shutdown (but never at restart) since i've installed the hda patch for ACL660 (Beta version), anyone have an idea...?

Thanks all, that thread had save me many times !

I just used the newest 10.5.2 graphics kexts (look around, I'm not sure where it is)

I got the same KP problem, not sure how to fix it. Anyone else have any ideas?

I wish it would be true -_- ))

I think this is an issue with AppleACPIPlatform.kext

With the 10.4.8 kexts my battery meter worked fine, but with the vanilla kext, apparently battery meter doesn't work at all. I tried the iATKOS (r1 I think) AppleACPIPlatform.kext and I got the same problem. 10 hours batter life! :D

Anyone using Leopard AppleACPIPlatform kexts with the battery meter working?

Ant

Hey,

Well I got the fixed BIOS and I can get into the install fine without doing cpus=1 but when I went to actually install the OS, It started copying files then about 2 minutes into the install an error message appeared saying something like "cannot copy files setup will now exit" that isn't really what it was but I don't remember exactly. Looking at the partition after showed that about 1GB had been used. Then I thought maybe it was because the partition was fat32 so I opened the installer up again and opened the disk manager and "erased" the disk to be formatted as as mac extended. After the "erase" operation was completed (not long) the drive wouldn't mount anymore and therefore I couldn't install onto it. I've tried numerous times all day with no luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Update: I tried again with a fat32 partition because it seems that only fat32 and ntfs will mount in the installer and got the error again, so I took a picture.

Jermo,

As far as I can tell, you can't install OS X on a FAT32 partition. You must install it on a Mac OS X Extended case-sensitive (Journaled) partition or something similar.

Can you tell us what laptop and what install DVD you are using?

Hope this helps.

I tried an old 10.4 disk ages ago but just used to get "still waiting for root device" at least I'm past that with these. I don't know how to get an HFS+ partition, or format it as mbr. I'm just using either paragon in windows or the disk manager with is quite limited from what I can see. the only filesystems I have in there are mac extended, case sensitive, journaled and none of those will mount after I "erase" them in the installer, it will mount again if I format as fat32.

As for installation options I tried to pick the ones that seemed to make sense.. I don't remember all of them though.
