jjduro
@ antaholics @Python1564 @PiNcIuSsS I told the guys on Brasil Mac about the batery metter situation and they came up with this bundle, garanted to work on both vanilla and hachintosh... or so they say. Just go to here and grab the bundle: http://forum.hmbt.org/viewtopic.php?f=93&t=2246 Obrigado galera do OSX86 Brasil! PS Haven't tried it myself yet.. so, don't be shy and post your outcome Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70928-the-official-asus-f3-series-notebook-thread/page/19/#findComment-652707 Share on other sites
antaholics
@jermo: check it anyway. GParted might do funny things to id=af partitions. last time I got a b0 error was because of this. Otherwise, try disk repair, and if that doesn't work still, look around the forum for b0 error help =/ @jjduro: wow thanks! I will try it out tonight as soon as I get the chance. Does it include CPU throttling or do you know how to get that to work? btw, which program are u using for core temperature? (coretemp? mine stopped working since Leopard), and what's that "2" icon beside it? Thanks! I'll ask around Brasil Mac. The problem is, since I'm from Portugal, and Brasil is in a different time zone, I believe they'll only answer tomorrow... PS It seems they are using Temperature Monitor: http://www.bresink.de/osx/TemperatureMonitor.html But you can use: smcFancontrol 1.23: http://homepage.mac.com/holtmann/eidac/sof...age5/page5.html or iStat Pro and iStat Menus: http://www.islayer.com/index.php?op=item&id=7 http://www.islayer.com/index.php?op=item&id=28 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70928-the-official-asus-f3-series-notebook-thread/page/19/#findComment-652754 Share on other sites

antaholics
@jjduro Thanks for the fast reply. smcfancontrol doesn't like MacPro's.. it wouldn't launch. I am using iStatPro right now but it wouldn't see the temperature of the CPU. so now I am using Temperature Monitor! However, now my menu bar looks really cramped (see picture) Other than that, the link you gave me for the bundle requires me to log in, and I don't understand any portugese so I don't even know how to sign up Do you mind posting the file as an attachment? it would be greatly appreciated! @Jermo, btw, what was the original problem preventing OS X from erasing the disk? Jermo
it was that I hadn't made the partition af, and I figured out the b0 error, I hadn't bothered to look at which bootloader was selected by default in the install so I went back and checked and it was the guid one so I reinstalled with the mbr one nad now it works.. well almost, osx goes to start and then it tells me that I have to restart, look here. Thanks for all the help. antaholics
Hmm... there isn't anything wrong with the first screenshot (that I see anyway), but the second screenshot looks like a kernel panic. do you see a kernel panic when you use verbose mode? (-v) or does it just hang at the first screenshot? Try using the 10.4.8 ACPI and APIC kexts (pull them from your working DVD in the /System/Library/Extensions) AppleACPIPlatform.kext AppleAPIC.kext or, try a modified bios. Hope this helps, Ant Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70928-the-official-asus-f3-series-notebook-thread/page/19/#findComment-653067 Share on other sites
Jermo
that first screenshot is where it hung when I used verbose mode, I couldn't see anything wrong with it either. I am using the same bios that you are using so the bios should be working. What do you want me to do with the kexts? from the 10.5.1 dvd? the AppleAPIC.kext file isn't installed on my hard drive or on the dvd Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70928-the-official-asus-f3-series-notebook-thread/page/19/#findComment-653080 Share on other sites
antaholics
Which DVD are you using again? 10.5.1 Kalyway? If so, I am not sure what is wrong, because that DVD worked for me once. Can you tell me what options you picked for installing? Personally, I only install the base system and what I need to boot at first to make my system bootable, THEN install the added programs and kexts. Try pulling the ACPI and APIC from the DVD, but I doubt that is the problem. If it's ACPI KP then it would say KP well before that point. For the rest of you, I have good news: I downloaded the 10.5.2 SpeedStep from here: http://minsong79.tistory.com/10 and it worked!! Now my CPU is automatically throttled to 800MHz while idle, and goes up to 1200, 1600, and 2000 when stressed. This should help the battery life issue!!!! The only problems I have with it are: 1. the battery still says 10 hours if I unplug it 2. my menu bar is HUGE (see screenshot) 3. I can't seem to manually adjust the CPU throttling properly. I can let it go up to 2000, but then it wouldn't drop to 800 or 1200 for me, only 1600. If I set it to automatic it works fine though. Also, I can't raise it to 2001MHz (c'mon... I want my 0.05% performance boost!!) 4. If I start with the system unplugged, battery meter shows 2:40 (normal), but when I plug it into the wall it doesn't detect that it's plugged in and charging... the % still goes up though. I will try the other powermanagement.bundle later [EDIT] works after charge to 10% I wonder if this will work for overclocked desktop systems? Anyone know? I am totally excited that my Hackbookpro is 95%+ functional! (minus sleep, shutdown, memory card reader [uSB'ed], webcam [uSB'ed], internal LAN [uSB'ed], and wireless [uSB'ed]). Btw, anyone else notice that Excel 2008 is SO DAMN SLOW? :S Ant Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70928-the-official-asus-f3-series-notebook-thread/page/19/#findComment-653100 Share on other sites
antaholics
the AppleAPIC.kext file isn't installed on my hard drive or on the dvd can't be... the DVD won't boot without it try booting the DVD using the tag rd=disk0s4 to boot into the HD, then use open /Volumes/DVD\ Name\ Here/System/Library/Extensions/ and copy the ACPI and APIC over. Honestly though, I don't know if this is the problem It probably lies somewhere else. Jermo
congrats on the throttling, I hope I can get mine working if this ever works. You are right, I'm just bad at the alphabet, the apic kext was there. I've already tried rd=disk0s4 and it hung at the same place: Could not establish network configuration: Success which is a funny thing for it to be saying but nothing worthy of a kernel panic or anything. antaholics
that is really strange. try this on DVD: rd=disk0s4 "MKext Cache"=/System/Library/Extensions.mkext Hopefully your DVD has a mkext file... what did you use to boot off your DVD to install? Jermo
Well I tried that and it didn't work so I reinstalled with only the video drivers and the bootloader options.. to boot the installer all I used was -v and "Graphics Mode"="1280x800x32@60". That didn't work either. The places where it has hung are "localhost mSDNResponder mSDNResponder-164 (Nov 4 2007 13:23:04)[41]: starting" and "Could not establish network configuration: Success!" before I reinstalled how frustrating especially since you have the same computer, the same bios, and you've used the same install disk Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/70928-the-official-asus-f3-series-notebook-thread/page/19/#findComment-653512 Share on other sites

antaholics
i used SMBIOS version 1.0.13... and it worked =/ I am not really sure why it doesn't work for some of you.. I wish I had a bit more knowledge with this. When you launch SpeedStep.app does it do anything? Ask for pw? I believe that the SpeedStep will only work with the supplied kernel, and not vanilla. As for AppleSMBIOS, I haven't tried any other ones yet. Memory doesn't display anymore so I might go back to AppleSMBIOS-27 and try that out. @mkayz, congratulations! good luck updating! @jjduro, I only speak Mandarin Chinese, and English =/ I don't think I helped much, but I just started with the SpeedStep thing today so I don't know anything about it =/ All I can say is that I am using 10.5.2, with SpeedStep kernel, 1.0.13 AppleSMBIOS, SpeedStep.app, and everything works (except sometimes the battery timer).
