eleazar
Nvidia Installer V1.9 by Punk92.zip got my 8800 GTX rocking at 2500x1600 on dual screens! AppleHDAPatcher_v1.17 plus ALC_885_Codec got the on-board sound working (you may need a different codec for your mobo) Thanks for typing it all out. I'm off to try the Nvidia Installer that you mentioned! Edit: Yay! It worked! :P Now if I could only get both cores working I installed the golden postpatch, and everything completed successfully, but no matter what I do (i've installed the post patch like 5x) when I reboot, I get a kernel panic (even when safe booting with -x). Has anybody else had this problem? The only way to fix it is to replace the golden kernel with the ToH kernel I had been using previously. eluminx
Well i followed MAX711's guide down to a T, and nothing, if i try starting the machine with just "-legacy cpus=1" i will get to the grey apple logo screen and it hangs, it shows me the "hold down the power button...". Just for kicks i tried starting it with "-x cpus=1" and /sarcasm surprisingly enough it got to the "transfer any info" screen and went back to trying to find my keyboard /sarcasm. I also tried another way which was to disable the NIC and use a PCI one, guess how that went, well let's just say im typing this from Linux again, lol. i am not having any luck with this at all. Oh well i guess i will keep on trying, the more i fail the more it makes me keep trying, oh and MAX711 thanks for the help, i followed everything just like you said, that when the first time i rebooted and i got the error i actually got happy and thought it was going to work ... JollyRogers
eluminx, what does booting with "-v -legacy cpus=1" list as the last thing it is trying to do before it hangs or kernel panics? I am still fighting my Atheros5212 pci wireless. I will set it up and it will work golden, then upon a reboot it will hang with Atheros failed to recv logic... but that is another thread. I am real close to just finding the right Broadcomm wireless nic for it and be done with this. I read somewhere, and I don't remember where, that with one wireless card they had to disable firewire for it to work properly. Go figure. Whether that means in bios or in OSX, I don't recall. JollyRogers
eluminx, I am a n00b w/ OSX, but that kernel panic looks to me to be screaming about the geforce card and it's drivers. What kind of video card do you have? I assume a Geforce of somekind, I would revisit the whole section in .netroller's guide and ensure I have followed it very closely for the GPU type you have. I am using a geforce8800gts and it worked pretty good for me. If it is an 8800GTX GPU, then there is a different driver that is supposedly working for G92 series. That's my 2 cents. Someone else here can probably tell you more based on that panic. But the kernel panicked because it couldn't load something (a kernel extension) correctly so I am more after what happens right before that panic...Right before the kernel panics, is it trying to load NVDAN30HAL or NVDAN50HAL? or do you see something else? It will be hard to catch maybe... Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69705-650-and-680i-chipset-thread/page/27/#findComment-583860 Share on other sites
eluminx
actually is not hard to catch, this screen will just sit there forever if i let it so i can tell you exactly which file is trying to load. I have a GeForce 7600gt, and i kind of figured that it had something to do with the card, but when i read MAX's guide it said to not choose any video drivers when installing so i didn't and to my surprise when i started the box without any drivers installed and got the same error, it kind of threw me off. I thought it didnt have anything to do with it. i will restart now and see which NVDA.... file it tries to load... EDIT ok is trying to load NVDAN40HAL. Here is the shot: Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69705-650-and-680i-chipset-thread/page/27/#findComment-583923 Share on other sites

eleazar
EDITok is trying to load NVDAN40HAL. Here is the shot: that screen looks famaliar to me x) It looks familiar to me too. The best thing I found to do when I was having this problem is to remove the NVDAResman.kext file from /system/library/extensions/. That always let me boot into safemode at the very least. I have a 7600gt too but i couldn't get any drivers to work for the life of me. Then the Punk92 drivers that Max mentioned worked a treat. Since then I have switched to an 8600gt which also worked with those drivers (with dual display working nicely too). Hope this helps! Here is the shot: panic is due to video drivers, just remove nvresman.kext or boot with -x -v and install proper video drivers......if you do go the remove route, make sure to move a back up to your documents folder or whichever your preference because it is needed for the drivers for your card to work when you obtain them Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69705-650-and-680i-chipset-thread/page/27/#findComment-583968 Share on other sites
JollyRogers
part of his problem is he can't boot with -x yet because he gets into the "loop". So boot -s and follow directions to edit the files... you will understand it's unix... then mv that /System/Library/Extensions/nvresman.kext to nvresman.kext_bak to prevent it from loading. Type exit and it should boot on from there. Posting that screen was the best thing to do, a lot of others here experienced the same thing(s) during install. eleazar
Congrats eluminx Has anyone had any luck getting dual/quad core working in 10.5.1? (Specifically the Kalyway DVD, but I don't think that matters as much). Also, does anyone know a good backup program similar to norton ghost? Something that can restore the entire OS? I don't want to lose the hours of work I put into customizing and installing programs I used Carbon Copy Cloner, block level copy. I didn't even need to re activate, startupfiletool, or bless the drive after cloning over. Last time I did it, I had to, but I knew just a bit less then about how this all works. This walkthrough saved my bacon. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=73199&st=0 Use the golden kernel postpatch, it enables dualcore and even fixed my audio. Edit the script, and replace your short username (the one used to name your home folder) and the name of your hard drive, the two variables at the top. Then before running the script, type 'sudo -s' and then run it. Watch the script output CLOSELY. I didn't the first time, and thought it was all broken. HMMM... I did this on ToH RC2, but there may be a golden kernel for 10.5.1. If you have a drive to restore from, why not try this one... you can update lots of packages to 10.5.1, so I don't see an issue. Like I said, make sure you can re-clone the drive before you go breaking things. eluminx
So to get my video drivers working do i have to put the NVDAResman.kext back to its original place? Because i just tried installing the nvidia installer v1.9 and my card is still not showing up? Sorry to keep being annoying, i thought that installing drivers or these .kext files would be as easy as following instructions but i gues not. Stupidicus
I have notes at home, but the mobo thread in my sig has steps for that, except that you need to chown the nvdaresman.kext 0:0 yes, zero colon zero, before marvin's util will get the cpuid. chmod to 755 too. Megahalo
Hey guys can you tell me if there has been a step by step guide posted on getting Leopard to work on a 680i MoBo (Asus P5N32-E SLI Plus) with only one SATA Harddrive? I saw a guide on installing it if you have a PATA harddrive, but I can't find anything on installing on a SATA drive. Right now when I start the install on both Leopard and Tiger I get a "Still waiting for root device" error so I can't get into the installer. Thanks. Alrighty guys, I figured it out (pretty simple solution). I just had to delete the AppleEFIRuntime kext. After that, I dropped in the golden kernel and it worked like a charm The system is running sooo much faster, I can actually multi-task now lol. I ran xbench but the results seem rather low, anybody mind comparing them to their own results? I'm worried something might be messed up with my system. I'm running evga 680i, geforce 8600GT, core2duo E6600 (2.4GHz). Xbench screenshot attached below Oh and I bought my first mac apps yesterday, a fun experience If you guys haven't already, you should check out macheist, I bought it for 2 specific programs, but got 8 more with the package (and for the same price I would've paid for just the two apps, $50) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/69705-650-and-680i-chipset-thread/page/27/#findComment-585040 Share on other sites
