  1. Just wanted to let you know that I am definitely looking forward to this guide. I have Leopard installed and working decently, but I think a fresh install with SL and the ability to restart would be worth redoing everything. I will be anxiously awaiting your guide! Edit: Will it be a vanilla guide? I have my current setup as Vanilla and it is very very convenient.
  2. 650 and 680i chipset thread...

I was wondering the same thing. I was able to get iPC 10.5.6 running pretty painlessly but when I try to upgrade to snow leopard I run into problems. First of all, I can't get the Snow Leopard DVD to boot. Second, When I try to upgrade to snow leopard from within 10.5.6 it says "Mac OS X 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer. For Mac OS X system requirements, see the "Read Before You Install"... Anybody have any ideas?
  3. 650 and 680i chipset thread...

Wow, that is great news. Did you install on a sata or ide hdd?
  4. I have the same problem. I haven't found a solution yet. I'm back to my usb->ethernet adapter for the time being. I dual boot with windows 7 and wanted to do the same thing. All you have to do is go into device manager (in windows) and disable the dell wireless card (once you install it). From then on, windows will not touch it. I'm not sure about ubuntu, but I'd imagine it is a similar process.
  5. I'm having the same problem on my Dell m1530. I was so excited to see ethernet working, but so sad when it stopped working after sleep.
  6. Very true. Maybe someone could put up a temporary webpage of what should be on the front page of this thread. Not something that would be advertised as a source of information, but more for you, talisman, macgirl, superhai and Chrysaor to collaborate info for the front page. So, when macgirl gets a chance, she could just copy/paste the new information into the first post? That way, it would not be entirely on macgirl to edit the first post by herself, she could just take 2 minutes and put the new information in the first post. I'd be happy to host something like that for us (we could continue talking about this in PM). What do you think?
  7. I don't mean the generic osx86 wiki. The OSx86 project is waay too big to be encompassed in a single wiki imo (or even on subpages, the wiki is huge and the dell page would get lost I think). I'm talking about an osx wiki only for dell laptops.
  8. I agree. I feel like a wiki would be a much better method for the front page. We could have it truly driven from user contributions (just like this thread), instead of just macgirl having to stay on top of it all. It would also be updated 10x faster, and could have separate pages for different topics (ie. solutions for x problem). We could still have the forum for questions and discussion, but a wiki with overall information, or factual topics (ie. This will fix x problem, or you need X kext for this install method). I don't know, just something I've been thinking about lately.
  9. Hey Guys, I'm back with another small issue Thanks for your help on the USB/Ethernet speeds. Replacing the kext properly fixed the issues. My new issue is that my TrueMobile 1505 wifi card won't turn on if I have already booted into OS X. I can click "Turn Airport On" as many times as I want, but it doesn't actually turn on. The only way to get it to turn on is if I reboot with the wifi switch already in the on position. I tried searching this thread for a similar problem, but I couldn't find anything. This only started happening after installing OS X Vanilla (with wingrunr's help:)). So, I'm not sure if that would play into it or not. Thanks guys!
  10. Yes, I have attached a screenshot of Network Utility. Also, I forgot about this in my first post, I get an error with one of the USB kext's everytime I boot (says something about the kext not being installed properly). I am not sure what started the error, I think it was when I tried to add a device ID or something, but since everything has been working (for the most part) I have ignored it until now. I'll reboot and write down the error to post here. Thanks for the fast reply! EDIT: I attached a picture of the error. Thanks again!
  11. Hey Everyone, I have been lurking in here ever since I got my m1530. I installed iAtkos 5i and I have everything working (I purchased the wifi card macgirl suggests and it works flawlessly, as well as the usb ethernet apple adapter). The only problem I have is with my USB --> Ethernet Adapter from Apple. I bought it at best buy, and it works for the most part. The problem is that I only get like 2mbit speed with it. Even on my local 100mbit LAN, when I transfer between my PC's i get like 750kbytes/second. It is rather frustrating b/c it takes hours to transfer anything of substance (ie. movies). I tried searching for this issue on all of the forums, but I'm not having much luck (although I might be searching with poor parameters). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
  12. I just found this thread today and got my 9650SE working in 10.5.2. I downloaded the installer image from 3ware's site but then I just installed the .kext file. It is located inside the image at /packages/drivers/macos/intel/AMCC3ware9000.kext. I used Kext Helper b7 to install the kext. It took about 15 seconds after installing the kext for my Raid 5 to show up All 3tb of raid goodness is available in my OS X install now
  13. 650 and 680i chipset thread...

What do you mean bt? And what new drivers? Care to share?
  14. 650 and 680i chipset thread...

I'm using an RTL 8139 pci card. I don't use the onboard ethernet at all.
  15. 650 and 680i chipset thread...

Apparently I jumped the gun a bit with my edit. My network fails if my processor maxes out for a little while (ie. when I load itunes, the network dies within like 2 or 3 minutes). So, anybody else still working on this stuff? Oh, and recently I have gotten two or three lockups when using iWeb, and I can't get iMovie to open at all. So there are definitely still some problems.
