I copied the mach_kernel to the root directory and it seemed to solve the "Can't find mach_kernel" problem. However, once Darwin starts to load, the computer reboots. This continues ad nauseum.Could you give me (detailed) instructions on the chown+chmod to root:wheel 755? I'm pretty Mac challenged.I just tried the root:wheel 755, but I still get caught in a reboot circle. Any advice of how to break the cycle and boot into Leopard would be appreciated. Thanks,Gator
lol still no luck gator? pm me any instant msging screenames if you have any! we've gotta get you installed lol you've been trying for a while now right its not that hard...we'll start from square zero
Thanks to everyone for your help, tonight I'm going to try following Weekender's Guide (post #244). In his guide, weekender uses the 10.4.8 patch to create two installs of Tiger, then overwrites one with Leopard. As far as I can tell he does this for two reasons: 1) to get the Leo partition to boot and 2) to install the post-patch. (Golden.zip) If I decide to only use JaS 10.4.8 to format the partition (following Solition's advice) can I apply the post-patch and update from the install of Leopard, forgoing the two installs of Tiger? If so, what would be the order? Thanks again,Kevin
that method seemed really convenient but your gonna have to pm solotitan for extra's on that lol

Still no luck. It has been a while sonce I've used an IM, so I'll have to install and set one up. I'll get the info to you, when I'm ready. I have a Tiger install. Did you want me to install Leopard on top of it?. Aside from being able to use both cores, what exactly does the postpatch provide? Thanks, gator

You have to install from an IDE DVD to an IDE HD. Good Luck.
:( still getting "waiting for root device".. -.-

I have set ide hd master and ide dvd slave on the same ide-channel....what i wrong?

Try this...

Check the IDE cable on the board to make sure it's connected.

Check the pins on both the DVD and HD and make sure none are bent. If you find any bent bend them back to close to where they're supposed to be and straighten them by carefully fitting on the IDE cable.

Set the DVD to Master and put on the Master connection (the end of the cable).

Set the HD to Slave and put it on the Slave connection of the cable.

At startup, hit the delete key and enter BIOS.

Set all boot devices to CD-ROM. hit F10 to save changes and reboot. Start the install by hitting F8 and the -x (safe mode).

Hopefully this will work for you. Good luck.

I don't think the order matters, but I personally have the DVD drive as master, and the harddrive as slave. Also, be sure to check the jumpers on the harddrive. Set it to slave or master (however you end up setting it)

Edit: Alpha beat me to it ;)

hd to slave, dvd to master, flag boot "-v -x" it can procede after, without getting "still waitinjg for root device", but it stops a bit after, "mac os version: 9a581 ecc"

-v -x cpus=1 -legacy ==> "still waitinjg for root device"

-v -x cpus=1 ==> it stops after "Firewire ...... pci now active-...... max speed 400"

Edit: "-v -x -legacy" same of the first, it hangs at "mac os version: not yet set

kernel versione....

Make sure the jumpers on the back of each of the IDE drives are set to the appropriate Master and Slave and not Cable Select.

I get the Firewire report as well. It's no big deal.

How long do you wait? I ask, because sometimes it takes a while.

your audio should work right away as well as better performance and compatibility with that kernel...performance isnt all that great with one core.is your tiger install clean? have you loaded any kexts in that install already its better if its clean..just make sure it boots up normally

i think your either not waiting long enough, or its your jumpers....or could be a bad image burn :(

The Tiger install is clean and boots normally. Haven't done anything following install (repair permissions and the like).

great, just disable a core and run the ToH disk in -v -x install, then adjust the post patch accordingly to match your hard-drive name and user name in the postpatch.sh and run it....enable the core, boot with -x -v again, install video drivers and reboot and you should be able to boot normally and your done...
10 minutes are gone, and nothing happened......there is no activity on hd or dvd...I think that now its only a problem of flags-boot...what can i try too? -f? Others?Edit: who have the Evga 680i Sli here?
what method did you use to install? we all have 680i boards

I have the EVGA 680i Sli

I think JaE-V is on to something when he mentioned the bad image burn. It might also be a dirty or marked DVD.

What did you use to burn the image. I recommend Alcohol 120% at the slowest speed.

How many methods are there? Only from dvd i suppost.. I used a toh rc2

So, if u have a evga, plz tell me if u changed something on ur bios, or which are the important settings that are necessary to boot properly

I made the md5 on the image and it is perfect, the dvd should be the same, I used Alcohol at 4X (the slowest)

....I have to do the md5 of the burned-dvd too? Some1 can do the same so i can check?

Edit: a question...the hd should be in hfs+ fs? Oo

The only thing I changed in my BIOS is disabling one of the cores. I assume your trying to install on top of an existing Tiger installation. That's required. I'm running out of ideas.

ok where there lies your probelm...there's no bootloader, you'll have to manually install darwin or EFI, or you can just install over tiger
