In moving the frameworks you say 'don't replace any' - I think I know what you mean but how exactly was that done? Finder or Terminal? More explicit instructions for that step would be greatly appreciated.

-Thanks

Acctually, what happened there, .....he didnt do nothing there...wanted to add files, but when was asked to confirm if is replaceing files or not, he simply choose " dont replace any. After that, he confirmed this fact, but also confirmed that can be replaced OpenGl.Frameworks except some files.....I going to look back what he said preciselly....

Edit:OpenGL executable is causing the problem...so that file can be omited from replaceing

Hello everyone, does anyone know if the trick for getting the X1000 series cards to work with QE and CI using the 10.4.4 framework files works for the X800 series of ATI cards as well? I have tried editing the plist files for the Radeon9700.kext file and afterwards actually loading the .kext file. The kext loads, but then system profile still tells me that I do not have CI or QE so I am just wondering what may be going on underneath.

Thanks to All!

well i know for a fact that graphics kexts need to be loaded by the OS on bootup. if you load them manually with kextload they might load successfully, but they'll not become active.

afaik that kext will only work for X1000-series cards. if the radeon9700 one seems to load, what happens when you reboot? does it load the kext?

I appreciate the help Munky. As far as loading the Radeon9700.kext, OSX does not load it automatically upon startup and I ended up manually loading it myself after I had booted into the desktop. I can try to load it upon startup, but I am unsure as to what file I would need to edit in order to add that device driver to the startup list.

Thanks again.

it should load automatically provided you put the correct device and vendor ID string into the relevant plist. for your particular setup im not sure which files would need edited, or if you have already done that.

if the pci match string is in there and its still not loading, then you're out of luck, i think.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news :(

So, I need all files from the 10.4.4 AGL.framework and all files from the 10.4.4 OpenGL.framework EXCEPT the OpenGL executable? Is that right?

I remember seeing something on the win2osx forum about adding one of the frameworks before the other. I can't find that thread over there now after their server move. I wouldn't guess that the order would make a difference but who knows. Does anyone know if that is totally incorrect.

The topic I remember was NOT talking about the ORDER of copying these two. Some of us (including me) discovered that we could not get on the desktop anymore (loginwindow) after having copied "everything" of these two. If I remember correctly someone found out that it's just the OpenGL executable that is responsible for this (so not the rest of the frameworks)...

I have just installed Mac OS X on my box (Pentium D 3,8 (Dual-core 2,8 overclocked), ASUS P5LD2-V (945g), 1 Gb RAM, 200 SATA HDD, ATI X1600XT 256 Mb DDR3 (GeCube)).

I am amazed. It is ulta fast, ultra hot speed. Boot in 12 seconds. QE and CI works (10.4.4 ATI kexts and GL frameworks). I have compared video encoding (QT 7.0.4 Pro), my PM G5 Dual 2.0 (at work) need go to a trash :pirate2:.

My cheap 3COM network card and VIA FireWire works well out of the box. HOOAH!

for anyone having problems installing the 10.4.4 stuff, here's what i did:

grab the 10.4.4 extensions and frameworks (i got these as separate zips)

unzip them both

copy everything with X1000 in it from extensions to your /System/Library/Extensions

now go to /System/Library/Frameworks (ie the installed, 10.4.3 version), and drag OpenGL.Framework and AGL.Framework to the desktop (to backup the old ones, just in case). (I cant remember if this moves them or copies them. if it copies them, then drag them from /System/Library/Frameworks to the trash, too. authenticate as necessary).

now look inside the 10.4.3 OpenGL.framework on the desktop, locate the executable and copy it to the unzipped 10.4.4 version (this replaces the 10.4.4 executable with the 10.4.3 one)

now drag the two 10.4.4 unzipped versions to /System/Library/Frameworks

in terminal do:

sudo diskutil repairPermissions /

reboot. should work (hopefully).

on another note, i see that the darwin bootloader detects my X1800XL as a 16Mb card. i'm guessing this is why it wont support any decently high resolutions. upsetting, cos i used to get 2048x1536x32 on my geforce 6800 (tho unaccelerated of course), and 1280x1024 is the max i can get now.

anyone know if there's any way to get more? like force darwin to detect the card properly, or even tampering with the card's firmware?

i tried to follow all ATI theads and i come to the conclusion, that my X1600 isn't getting loaded at boot.

i can load the kext manually successfully...

everything works, exept QE and CI... :poster_oops:

could even pimp up my res to 1600x1200.

Hmm i got a problem...

I did this:

All you need to do is add the extra AGL.Framework and OpenGL.Framework files (don't replace any) from the 10.4.4 framework

And add all the RadeonX1000 files into the Extensions folder from the 10.4.4 Extensions

Note: Both of these are on rapid share - check the osx86project thread for links.

repair the permissions (I did this through disk utility)

And now it boots and shows the login screen and all and when i login it goes to console and asks me to login again, i do and it says Welcome to Darwin

how in the hell do i fix this ...

My GFX card is X800xl

10.4.3 sse3

i followed your steps...

as i said... i can manually load the kext...

but system profiler and kextstat both say no kext loaded.

to get it back to speech.... which kext has to be modified? :(

i modified the ATIRadeonX1000.kext... added my model...

system profiler says 0x71c2... i added 0x71c21002 8bit(first 4bit model last 4 bit vendor)

or am i wrong in my knowledge?
