Ayanami
Just out of curiosity, for someone wanting to run Windows and Windows only, would a MacBook or any Mac computer be a worthwile investment? I mean, there are lots of things that Macs offer in terms of hardware (Better screens, smaller laptop cases, etc.,) that are really not available on many windows based computers. I know that defeats the purpose of owning a Mac, but it seems to me that Macs run Windows better than PCs run Windows. phor2zero
It would be a perfectly worthwhile investment. I love my Mac and I never even use the Bootcamp feature. I just boot Windows in Parallels for certain college coursework. Of course, you would need to buy a full install version of Vista, but an oem version of Ultimate is less than $300 anyways. The iMac's might be nice computers, I'm not sure. I'm a custom built PC kind of guy. The laptops though are topnotch super-duper. Unless you have so much money you're willing to buy a pancake griddle laptop like an XPS or Alienware, the Macbook Pro is virtually top of the line in every aspect. It's built with quality hardware and priced quite fairly. You would probably want to use bootcamp in Mac OSX to make a windows driver's disk before you wipe the harddrive and install windows though. erbic
You don't even need the full install version... you can get the upgrade, install w/out a product key, then "upgrade" with the same disc with the product key. Yay loopholes! And yes, the MBP is an EXCELLENT computer to run Vista on. I've found that I use Vista more than Mac, mostly for gaming. I get excellent performance in just about everything I play, and it's a great computer for other stuff too. You won't be disappointed. A Nonny Moose
You can do it, but it's a waste of a perfectly good Mac for a bad OS. R2k. I would argue that. Although there may be hardware to try to lock users into a single OS, the hardware isn't really specifically designed for a single OS. apowerr
[qoute] Although there may be hardware to try to lock users into a single OS, the hardware isn't really specifically designed for a single OS.[/qoute] I agree. A MBP runs Windows just as good as a Dell or HP. If your a windows kind of guy, why not run only Windows on your Mac computer? Sure, the lack of right click (laptops) and prt scr keys might get annoying, but you can always get a usb keyboard. In fact, at a lot of Windows developer conferences where laptops are nessecery, a lot of these Windows buffs are using MBs and MBPs. Ayanami
=( I've never had any luck with OS X writing to an NTFS partition. It reads them, but not the way they're intended to be read. BJMoose
=(I've never had any luck with OS X writing to an NTFS partition. It reads them, but not the way they're intended to be read. Try NTFS-3G. It treats NTFS drives connected to a Mac the same as network drives...can both read and write to them. apowerr
Its really inconsiderate to pirate Operating Systems, especially in the case of OS X, Windows or Subscription-based Linux when developers are working 9-5 to fix bugs and release patches. Luminaire
I agree. A MBP runs Windows just as good as a Dell or HP. I'm not sure where I heard this, but didn't Apple computer inc. came out on top of the lot in Windows computing also? I thought that made Mac books the best laptops out there, for windows nonetheless. asstastic
Seriously, i like OSX a lot better than windows for a number of things, unfortunately it's use on my laptop is crippled by incompateble network drivers. I can't see a real reason not to dual boot espcialy if you do any sort of photography, music or video editing. On the other hand buying a mac just to run windows is a bad idea in my opinion. There are a number of companies that produce stylish laptops for much cheaper than any apple notebook and offer a variety of hardware choices beyond those provied by apple. Some of these companies are even hired by apple for the production of their notebooks so you can expect the product quality to be just as good if not better.
