Let me say upfront that I would never by a windows driven laptop for many reasons; first I feel that OS X is better than any windows version plus I'm tired of the hassel of being forced to deal with viruses, malware, spyware, etc... HOWEVER, if I were to buy one THIS would be the reason why. This is what Apple TV should be all about, but sadly they seemed to have missed the boat. Sony has a new device it calls LocationFree, and here is how it works; you hook up your TV, TIVO, DVR, actually any video device, and then no matter where you are in the world you can watch HDTV, or anything else that you want on your laptop! Imagine being in Japan and watching your local news, or something that you're recorded on your DVR. All you need is a internet connection and you're all set. And the best news is that Sony had the brains and forethought to make sure that it even works with a Mac with special software available through Taxan. The unit will be available for sale in around 2 weeks for less than 200.00 (and now there's a 40.00 rebate on it too). I'm not a Sony person per se but I'll be the first to admit that this is a great idea, and I have to give them their props. Apple TV as it stands I don't see a real need for, but this I would definitely buy :)

Wow! This is incredible. A great idea, perfect for people who travel a lot. I wonder though, how good of an internet connection is required? What if you are in some cheap hotel that offers speeds only a tad better than dial-up? No matter how bad Sony's game division is sucking, "Mama" Sony is doing great. It was also considerate of them to include OS X support.

Of course not. You could just A) Buy a Large monitor, same home theater experience but at even higher res :) Buy an Xbox360 (If you have Media Center) C) Just not buy one ;) I would say A, B and C are better choices than "D) Buy an Apple TV"

I can relate to that in some ways.

O RLY? I havent had any virus/spyware issues...ever. Sure: I have to be cautious, and you could argue that with OS X no caution is required, but I still have never had a virus with Windows.

I still have never had a virus with Windows.

Famous last words... I know of many others who at one time said the same thing, and then they got zapped. Still I hope your luck keeps up as the odds are against you. We both know that there are hundreds of thousands of windows viruses out there :) I finally got tired of the virus/spyware/malware update "ritual" and so I switched to OS X, and it was one of the best things that I've ever done. Still have a PC, but rarely ever turn it on anymore and I'll definitely NEVER buy vista. XP is bad enough ;)

Yeah I was watching shopNBC and they were showing it. Very easy to use and you wonder why no one else hasn't done this yet, including Apple. The only thing that I don't understand is that the FCC has a ruling about not retransmitting TV signals, so how are they getting away with this? Must be a loophole ;)

No offense but I hear this comment all the time from Windows users and its just as dumb each time.

Indeed you may not of had any issues, but whether intentional or unintentional the implication that Windows is secure if handled right is wrong. Doesn't matter why, whether you buy the market share argument, or end users are the issue, whatever, history proves that both viruses and spyware have been incredibly destructive problem for Windows.

Newer versions of Windows are greatly improved, but that still doesn't change the fact that you have more odds of either viruses or spyware is still higher on Windows than it is on OS X.

I'm sure that erei33 knows how to maintain his computer, but I have talked with many other windows users who made the same "I've never been infected with a virus/spyware" claim and then when I did a search on their PC it came up with many hits ;):D The point is that just because a person doesn't "think" there's a virus/spyware/malware on their PC, doesn't mean that they necessarily don't have one. I guess ignorance is bliss, and some people just don't know how to thoroughly search for them, but we're getting a wee bit off topic here ;)

After researching this a bit more there appears to be three versions, although I can't see any differences between them except that one model also is wireless, but what about the third model? :)

they already have a product like this... its called slingbox :censored2: it works alright...

I was waiting for someone to mention Slingbox...

lol you guys are acting like this is the best thing ever... Slingbox has been out for quite some time now...

This really isn't that big a deal...

Slingbox is not wireless like the Sony, plus they charge you 50.00 for a special HDMI cable (even though it's not HD). Still a great idea though. Maybe now that Sony has gotten into the race there will be more competition and better pricing.

Rathalos beat me to it. :P, I was going to say that it looks like a standing up PS2 design as well...albeit slightly slicker. Common guys , the design department could come up with a more radical design than that...can't they? The PS2 is the first thing that comes to my mind when I see that.

hmm.. it may be deliberate.. think about the brand loyalty IBM has built with their insanelyboring black, chunky look, hardly changing from year to year, but nonetheless robust..
