Guest pcharles25
Man i tell you what i have had the best of them... voodoo 2, voodoo 3, voodoo 5 nvidia 2,3,4,6,7 I Very much like the Intel GMA 950, It does everything. I can play Postal 2 (my favorite game) @ 1024x768 and enjoy it. I can play Hit Man 1,2 (in xp) Works great. I wold assume world of warcraft would be just peechy. If you are building a hackintosh for the first time get a Board with GMA 950... And if you want to throw something in the PCI E 16x slot feel free. The fact is OSX Loves that 945 chipset, that with realtech Ethernet and Sound you will have a 100% MAC and LOVIN it While eating a double cheese burger from MCD's Oh ... that is just my oddness lol... I love those. here is a vid to that i made that talks all about it... enjoy i made it for you guys strying to start out and making your own mac... I highly Support you doing it. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=69...29801&hl=en Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58222-gma-950-really-is-great/ Share on other sites

Guest Ramm
Errr, not really. It actually is a very good card, even more so for an integrated one. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58222-gma-950-really-is-great/#findComment-415753 Share on other sites
Guest pcharles25
Garbage is the onboard sis video... now that is the worst i have ever messed with. Props to GMA 950 a real trooper. Gray_Matter
Garbage is the onboard sis video... now that is the worst i have ever messed with. Props to GMA 950 a real trooper. I'll second that, the SiS stuff from Ampton, Gigabyte, MSI, DFI are made by the same company and sold out to resellers these boards are suppose to be budget pieces, but imho they are far from a bargin as they are total junk. Now the intel line of intergrated boards work pretty decent and don't fail very often. Crack open any dell optiplex, dimension, IBM think centre, Compaq preserio or office desktop, most are all intergrated intel chipsets. They are not made to be high end game machines, or a replacement for a $2000.00 Mac but they are reliable and work pretty decent for a cheap price. I'd say they are a bargin Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58222-gma-950-really-is-great/#findComment-416438 Share on other sites
Fridgerator
I just wish it didnt come with the macbook. I mean most post secondary students get macbooks as their laptops if they like mac OS. And having to play games on that thing is just simply frustrating. Oh well, its really the only complaint i have about the macbook. Guest pcharles25
I feel a lot of that is simply because of the low-power mobile architecture. i play games with the GMA 950 that comes with my MSI 945GM3-F board and it Screams... All kinds of games. I love it. Granted i do have a 2.66 ghz Dual-Core processor and 2 gb ram ddr2 800 and a sata-2 Seagate with NCQ support i am sure all that helps. consolation
Sorry guys, GMA950 is total POS. It actually steals CPU cycles to do work that a "real" GPU should do, whoever made the call at apple to use it on MBs should be horse whipped. "Its 3D graphics core lacks support for hardware transform and lighting and the similar vertex shader technologies, an important part of the 3D acceleration pipeline. Neither basic (DX7) hardware transform and lighting, nor more advanced vertex shaders (DX8 and later) are handled in the GMA hardware. It instead emulated this functionality in software, reducing compatibility and performance with 3D games." <- stuff that was standard on GPUs since GeForce 3. So you can't even run old games like Halo without resorting to legacy modes. The only way it seems to work OK, is by not processing certain instructions, i.e the frame rate is ok but it looks like {censored}e compared to a competent video card. Oh, try turning on the hardware 3D acceleration option in Photoshop CS3 w/ a 950, you will laugh you will cry as it slows down your render times. If you think a 950 is ok, you probably haven't tried a decent card yet. SpeedfreaK
the games that you mention are really oooooooooold, i can play them also on my garbage geforce 4 MX with all visual options on the gma950 is good for the usual stuff, but not for gaming (i thought everybody knew that) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58222-gma-950-really-is-great/#findComment-417013 Share on other sites
rathalos
seriously, in my opinion, my old laptop's ati x300 coupled with pentium M beats my gf's dual core plus GMA 950 in terms of 3d gaming... my graphics blows hers away, even though i suffer from a lack of a good processor... i run wow at full speed and at high frame rates while she suffers from some graphics lag here and there... (not network btw, cos i was sitting beside her and on the same switch connected to the same router) NVDIA 8600GT FTW!!!! borisbadenov
For what it's worth, here is my take on this card. Though it does steal computer memory to run and can hamper working on high intensity graphics, what I like about the GMA 950 is it does not require any tweaking when installing OSX86. After that, then I can install another, more powerful graphic card. I would never have been able to get the ATI X1600 card working if not for the GMA 950 so do not overlook the importance of it Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58222-gma-950-really-is-great/#findComment-417080 Share on other sites
Guest pcharles25
yes, you cannot beat how the gma 950 works in osx that is for sure! i was using it to play postal 2 earlier... it was working great. Azurael
Every integrated GPU sucks compared to even the most basic dedicated card. The GMA950, however, is reliable and stable, and perfectly adequate for people who don't need to be able to play the latest games with all the flashy features on. jez6345789
Hi Interesting thread I have been erring on adding in either an Nvidia 7300 or 7600 card with the hope that it will speed up rendering times in simple apps like idvd etc, as when rendering a video the CPU seems to be used about 20-40 percent according to istat but and the rendering time for stuff like titles is long considering the power of my machine. I presume a lot of the idvd stuff goes through core graphics/ animation etc and is hence slowed by the onboard graphics rather than the CPU. any comment welcome Jez Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/58222-gma-950-really-is-great/#findComment-451676 Share on other sites
Proteo
works FCS2 on GMA950???? It does work, and works just fine. Of course, don't expect FinalCut to render in real time ten layers of video with transition effects...
