OpenMoko is a $300 phone that packs the Linux kernel inside and is not locked to a specific network. Although it shares a similar touch screen with the iPhone, that is where the similarities end. This baby is ready to be loaded with any number of open-source software applications. This development model sports a 2.8″ VGA touch screen, a micro SD card slot, a USB port and 2.5G GSM modem. The next version will also include wi-fi, 3-D motion sensors and added graphics accelerators. When everything is all said and done the OpenMoko will be $450 and available in finished form in October.

Well, there you go. Linux kernel on an unlocked phone. The first of many future products spurred by the iPhone.

a lready seen this it has power and tons of mods can be done to it however looks so ulgy

I heard this is the "Developer" release, and that a revision/redesign will be made after wards to attract more of the actual users.

Hm i dont think it looks that bad, I kinda want one

Same, basically it's everything you want in a phone, because the actual users are the ones that are technically building it.

Looks nice (the black one) . But is not as stylist as the iphone, however the price diference is big =)

but it lacks on the wifi.

overall its a nice product, nice alternative.

But it has to improve a little bit to be in the same level as the iphone.

"The next revision (GTA02), which will be available starting at $450 in October, will be ready for the mass market. It will have wi-fi, 3-D motion sensors and added graphics accelerators. So this phone isn't exactly an iPhone killer -- the next one will be a contender."

So, only time will tell.

Id much rather have the revision 2 than an iPhone :(

Even so, it's not truly able to be used on any provider. I see no support for CDMA, unless they are going to add that later on down the road.

What I want is a phone that I can take to any provider, look badass, and have an intuitive GUI. The iPhone fails the one criteria for me: Provider (meaning network as well). If the iPhone later on in newer versions will support CDMA and EVDO, then I will buy one because I can take it to Verizon and use it on my current plan.

This phone is too ugly for me. I'm very superficial in regards to my technology.
