Nvidia announced that its aligning with Trans Gaming earlier this year, a company that specialises in developing cross-OS tools for game developers. It produces an "engine" which lets Windows games run natively on Macintosh systems. Like DirectX games working on Apple's OpenGL baby.

"What next? Apple ditching Intel for AMD?"

Hahaha, good one dude.

Yeah, I always liked nVidia too and I hope that means that a lot more games will come out for the Mac soon. I, mean I gave up gaming the moment I chose never to work with windows again. But hey, it would still be great to play halflife 2 on the mac. That game rocked dudes.

Seeya,

Ati will still be supported I think. The translator will translate everything to pure opengl, and ATI can run that. As long as it is not made for Nvidia cards only (shouldn't be since Apple and ATI have had a long run together and they have to support the ATI cards out there) then ALL mac owners will benefit from this. Booyah!

Well, to make a long story short, here's the way I think they're going about it:

Transgaming and NVIDIA have a partnership, so that Transgaming gets better access to NVIDIA's hardware interface (and NVIDIA's end of the deal? Oh they just get more profit). What Transgaming has basically done so far is rewrite Direct3D's API so that it corresponds better to Linux- (Cedega) and Mac- (Cider) friendly paradigms, such as OpenGL. Access to this information will basically give them better implementations for NVIDIA graphics hardware, so that they go beyond simply "Direct3D to OpenGL translator" to being more like "Direct3D for Mac/Linux... oh, and OpenGL helps a little".

Though they can't leave out ATI. To many buying Macs with ATI. I think there will be in the Mac side, a version that will run on ATI to. Mean both card companies do things similar. If they isolate ATI, then all the iMac and MBP users of the new intel lines will be left out, and that will not go well. Frankly the only ones that would benefit with Cider working with Nvidia only is iMac 24 inch users and Mac Pro users, and more Mac owners own the other cheaper models. If this is done right, then Transgaming can make Cedega and Cider run great in both types of cards.
